This study examines the social position of assembly-line workers in a village in the Southern Great Plain region of Hungary, based on 18 semi-structured interviews. The research explores the educational and labour-market trajectories leading to assembly-line work, the social position of these workers, and the factors contributing to the reproduction of their disadvantaged status. The findings show that most respondents are characterised by low educational attainment, limited mobility opportunities, and restricted financial resources. Assembly-line work provides stable employment and regular income, but it is also associated with limited advancement, low autonomy, three-shift work, and a perceived lack of recognition. In the case of respondents’ children, partial educational mobility can be observed, usually limited to one step upward, but this does not necessarily lead to substantial changes in social position. The study concludes that, despite their relative integration into the labour market, the workers examined remain in a socially vulnerable position.
