Electoral Systems in East Central Europe
26-50Views:27The democratic transition in Eastern and Central Europe provides a good opportunity to
examine how to apply the findings of the science of elections in a new dimension. This study
based on 167 elections in 23 countries shows the formation, evolution and political consequences
of the new electoral systems. The hypothesis of the paper is that the elections and electoral
systems in this region not always correspond to the conventional wisdom. Our analysis divides
into five parts the region (Central Europe, Western and Eastern Balkans, Baltic States and the
other former republics of Soviet Union). This division helps to get an sophisticatad picture about
the emergence and changes of the new electoral systems. By showing country by country we can
demonstrate the similarities and differences between and within subgroups as well. Finally
using three well-known indices (least square index, effective electoral and parliamentary
number of parties) the study summarizes – country by country and subgroups by subgroups by
type – the political consequences for the proportionality and party structure. The analysis of the
167 elections demonstrates that Eastern and Central Europe does not show uniformity regarding
the political consequences of the electoral systems. Their influence is more moderate than in the
established democracies and they are also much more volatile. Their changes have shown rather
diverging than converging trend in the last quarter century. The conventional findings are
difficult to apply for this region, they are only partially valid, especially the formation of party
structure differ from the previous experiences. In sum the Eastern and Central European elections
do not invalidate the conventional statements of the elctoral studies but they offen do not show
corresponding image. So they significantly contribute to the further development and refinement
of the previous findings. -
How should we think about Europe? The model adaptation and model formation strategy of the Hungarian political elite
110-133Views:25In the past decades, researchers in Hungary have looked at almost all segments of the behavior and organization of elites, nevertheless they have dealt surprisingly little with how external actors (Europe, the West) affect the actions and way of thinking of the elites. The lack of approaches from this perspective is so apparent because the European orientation of the elites has changed twice in the past thirty years. (In the 1980s and starting from the second half of the 1990s.) The essay focuses on presenting two concepts of Europe, of which one is based on model adaptation (the opposition represents this approach) the other on model formation (which is characteristic of the governing parties). The essay shows the origins of both, as well as their connections to macro and micro political motifs. Within the frameworks of this, the study touches upon why the appearance of the model adaptation perspective was adequate in the 1980s as well as to why the model forming approach to Europe appeared on the right in the middle of the 1990s as its challenger. The analysis does more than just dynamically present the past thirty years, it also aims to show that we have to integrate Hungarian political history in a broader sense into our studies if we want to understand the changes that have occurred in the past decades concerning the relationship of the elites to the West. The stratum which Fidesz has brought to surface lays deep in Hungarian political history. We have to take this stratum into consideration even if we find this perhaps unattractive and we reject it.

Europe’s most visited countries’ coastal areas affected by overtourism
98-122Views:39Tourism has a constant impact on the environment and on society, taking these impacts into
consideration reveals that these are not always beneficial. Negative impacts include increased
pollution, inappropriate construction, conflicts between local society and tourists, crowding and
congestion. The objective of my research is to study coastal areas affected by overtourism in
southern European countries. By examining tourism in the European countries that received the
most international tourists in 2019, I illustrate the importance of 3S tourism (sea, sand, sun), the
mass of tourists it attracts, and its effects. The tourism of France, Spain and Italy, with their sunny sandy coasts, are presented by summarising data sets from various international databases.
I analyse the cases of some destinations from the three countries that are the main focus of the study, based on previously published articles. Coastal areas that have been associated with the
overtourism phenomenon by other authors are also presented. -
Soft Skills Workshops with External Trainers: Getting Them Right
54-70Views:30Soft skills development workshops can serve multinational organizations towards the
improvement of internal communication between employees of various language backgrounds
attempting to collaborate on tasks and issues in performing their daily activities. Employer and
management expectations of these workshops may not be consistent with those of employees
and this gap can lead to employee pushback and even refusal to internalise and utilise the
envisioned workshop key learning points that management wants them to develop. On the bases
of years of professional experience as co-trainers holding soft skills development workshops and
receiving employer and employee feedback on their work at dozens of multinational companies
in Europe, the authors discuss critical milestones which must be met by management, in order to
lay the groundwork for more successful soft skills workshops at their organisations. -
The effect of Covid-19 epidemic on the industry of a Sub-Saharan Country: a perspective on sports industry in Nigeria
foglalkoztatás területén, tekintettel a nigériai gazdaság egy-szektorú jellegére. Vizsgálataik alapján szerzők javaslatként fogalmazzák meg, hogy figyelembe véve a nigériai társadalom korfáját, jelentős befektetések lennének szükségesek a sportiparba, mely a szektor átalakításával is együtt kellene, hogy járjon. -

109-134Views:30In this second paper, we are attempting to demonstarte the changes in the political/citizenshiprelated and cultural-historical national identity of the Hungarian ethnic minority in Vojvodina.
With the end of Yugoslavia as a country this ethnic minority became Serbian citizens. The new
leaders of Serbia had an adverse view on this ethnic minority until 2014 when the Serbian
political leaderership changed their political identity and favoured the West instead of EasternEurope. The financial aid provided by the Hungarian Government to the Hungarians living in
Vojvodina, which targeted cultural and economic development in the area, aimed to better the
life and strenghten the national identity of this ethnic minority. Those who received financial
aid developed a better outlook on life. The possibility to acquire Hungarian citizenship easily strenghtened the Hungarian national identity of this minority and contributed to population
decline. While people migrating to Hungary are primarily motivated by access to better
education, others migrate to Western Europe for work. -
Social media communication in the digital medical space: A #cysticfibrosis és a #Asthma Big Data összehasonlító elemzése
143-180.Views:29In the environment of 21st century technology, the transformation of information acquisition
of health care and patients has had an increasing emphasis. Despite the earlier authoritative
doctor-patient relationship, a need for an equal, cooperation-based communication has emerged
and there are so many digital healthcare projects to achieve this (Koskova 2015).
Information acquisition on the internet has allowed patients that based on the increasingly
available medical information they acquire information about their condition, become part of
patient communities, ask for second opinions, and become committed helpers of their doctors in
their disease (Meskó et. al 2017).
This can be especially true for patients with rare diseases, where a diagnosis might take even
a decade, the patient needs lifelong condition maintenance and treatment, if it is available. While the proportion of patients with rare diseases is low compared to the whole of society, the number of such patients is approximately 30 million in Europe (EURORDIS), which means patients
and their relatives need not only a harmonized health care system, but extensive information so
that they can live with the rare disease with less difficulty.
The aim of our study was to present the options of information acquisition in the social
media, focusing on Twitter, via an interdisciplinary and social approach. In this study therefore
we carried out a Big Data based social media analysis based on #Asthma and #CysticFibrosis
databases of the Symplur corporation. This study results contain the complete online communication of 7 years (2012-2019) regarding these hashtags. The analysis has few levels including
semantic research, stakeholder and hashtag review, engagement, and the whole tweet activity
exploration. -
The Effects of the 2011 Electoral Reform on the Results of the Hungarian Legislative Elections I. : Theoretical aspects of the reform
195-209Views:43The second wave of democracy after World Wa II, followed by the third wave in the 1970’s and
the 80’s – including the historic democratic transitions in Eastern Europe after the collapse
of the Soviet Empire – led to the expansion of democratic electoral systems around the world.
The design of electoral systems and of the undergoing electoral reforms has become a vital
component of the democratization process. The study of the theory and politics of electoral
reform led to the adoption of new theoretical and methodological approaches in order to cope
with the challenging phenomena.
The main goal of this paper is to interpret the concept of reform, and to unfold some of
theoretical aspects of it in order to identify some of the main components of the concept. With the theoretical approach we can get a better understandic of the reform itself, and we can
demonstrate that electoral reform is a complex process which should not be reduced to a simplistic
model in which a few actors driven by a few motives can fully explain the whole phenomenon.
The theoretical study of the reform can show that some politial events, the established party
system (first and foremost the distribution of power between the various parties), the type of the
actual electoral system (its advantages and disadvantages) as well as some contingents factors
must be taken into consideration in order to have a better understanding of the nature of the
political arena in which reform proposals are promoted and the reform itself takes place. -
Gyermekvédelmi háttérrel a felsőoktatásba: a YIPPEE nemzetközi kutatás egyesült királyságbeli és magyar tapasztalatai
24-38Views:47A Gyermekvédelmi gondoskodásban élő és onnan kikerülő fiatal felnőttek: Utak az oktatásba Európában (Young People from a Public Care Background: Pathways to Education in Europe) című nemzetközi kutatás célja az volt – mely az Európai Unió 7. Kutatási keretprogram „Fiatalok és Társadalmi Kirekesztődés” témakör keretében valósult meg –, hogy átfogó képet kapjunk arról, hogy az egyes országokban a gyermekvédelmi gondoskodási háttérrel rendelkező, jelenleg 19-21 éves fiatalokat mi segíti és mi gátolja a továbbtanulásban; a gondoskodási háttérrel milyen oktatási utak léteznek Európában. A kutatás Dániában, Magyarországon, Spanyolországban, Svédországban és az Egyesült Királyságban zajlott 2007-2010 között. A vizsgálat több szakaszból állt.
A továbbtanulásban, felsőoktatási tanulmányok folytatásában kik azok, akik segítséget nyújtottak számára. Egy évvel később a kiválasztott fiatal felnőttekkel ismét interjú készült mely azt vizsgálta, mennyire sikerült megvalósítani elképzeléseiket, hogyan módosultak rövidtávú terveik.

The Career-building effect of volunteering in higher education
146-160Views:70Nowadays the motives for volunteering are changing among higher education students, and
besides traditional altruistic motives, career-building motives also appear (the acquisition
of work experience and professional knowledge, professional development, networking,
the presentation of voluntary work in the resume). In this paper, we use data from a survey
conducted in five Central and Eastern European countries (N=2,199) to examine through linear
regression analysis the factors affecting the strength of career-building motives and to analyse
through a logistic regression model the determinants of whether or not volunteering is related to the field of study. Our hypotheses are formulated based on the literature. Our results show
that career-building motives are more pronounced among women and students who have a
close relationship with external friends outside the university, study outside Hungary, and study
something other than engineering, computer science or science. Voluntary work is more likely to
be related to the field of study among teacher education students, students with an unfavourable
financial situation, those who study in Romania, and those who have a close relationship with
faculty.
