CS unplugged in higher education
1-23Views:42Nowadays, there is a significant lack of workforce in the IT industry, even though it is one of the most lucrative professions. According to researchers' forecasts, the existing shortage is growing, so the wages offered will be higher, yet it seems that young people are not attracted to the profession. This problem draws attention to the need to change the curriculum so that it can attract students more. One possible solution is to supplement the curriculum with CS Unplugged activities, which makes it easier to understand and deepen difficult concepts and make IT lessons more colorful. In my article, besides presenting the already known CS Unplugged activities, I will deal with how this can be applied in Hungarian higher education as well.PDF3 -
Methodological questions of digital teaching material development made in the subject of mathematics
25-41Views:43In the methodology of mathematics teaching, the selection and the manner of using applicable digital teaching materials appeared as a new element. As the number of digital teaching materials applicable in education is constantly increasing, their purposeful use is rarely discussed. In what areas digital teaching materials can be used in mathematics? What are the problems for which they could provide a solution? Shall we use them besides traditional solutions, or instead?
The authors of this article have had the opportunity to participate in projects aiming to develop digital learning materials on various occasions. During the implementation of the projects, they needed to make methodological compromises at various points.
In our article, we are seeking a more emphatic use of methodology belonging to digital teaching materials, drawing on the experiences of three implemented projects. Our aim is to draw the attention to the anomalies we found in the implementation of the projects, which must be taken into consideration in new developments already at the planning stage.PDF5 -

Our duties in talent management in the light of the results of the International Hungarian Mathematics Competition of 2017
55-71Views:31The 4th International Hungarian Mathematics Competition held in Transcarpathia, Beregszász between April 28 and May 1, 2017, was organized by the Hungarian Carpathian Hungarian Teachers' Association (KMPSZ) and the Ferenc Rákóczi II. Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute (II. RFKMF).
The venue for the competition was the building of the Ferenc Rákóczi II. Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute. 175 students participated in the competition from Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Transcarpathia.
In this article, we are going to deal with the problems given in the two rounds to students in grades 5 and 6, and, in the light of expectations and performance, we make some suggestions for a more effective preparation of talented students on after-school lessons.PDF6 -
Game theory for managers and mechanical manager students
73-91Views:33In this article we describe the second part of a case study, in which 48 Mechanical Management students were involved. The participants of the case study were MSc level students at Szent István University, Gödöllő.
In the case study we looked for methods by which we can support the most important components of competence motivation and the development of mathematical and other key competences during the mathematics lessons and individual learning.
Another goal of our research was to get reliable information about students learning methods and their awareness of self-efficiency, furthermore their achievement in the subject of Engineering and Economic Mathematics.
Detailed assistance was provided for the students in the e-learning portal. Knowledge tests, questionnaire and personal interviews with the students were also used.
During the semester four topics have been discussed: linear programming, graph theory, game theory and differential equations. In this article I will describe the lesson preparations, the help for examinations and the students' achievement on game theory.PDF5 -
Development of high school students' geometric thinking with particular emphasis on mathematically talented students
93-110Views:19We carried out research using Zalman Usiskin's test (1982) and also a modified version of his test to see how the geometric approach of secondary school students (Grades 8-10) specialized in mathematics had changed. We observed two groups of students for several years. Our aim was to find a relation between the change of the mean of the van Hiele level of the students and the structure of the geometry syllabus. We also observed if there was a change in the geometric approach of the students during the summer holidays and if so, in what way it changed.PDF13 -
Analysis of fixations while solving a test question related to computer networks
111-129Views:15Examination of human eye move is useful because by eye tracking and definition of visual attention, may making conclusions about hidden cognitive processes which are harder to examine. With human eye tracking, visual attention can be defined, therefore hidden cognitive processes may be revealed and examined. The goal of the research, presented in this article, to analyze the so called fixation eye movement parameter recorded during a test question related to computer networks. The paper present what significant differences detected between pre-knowledge and the number of fixations using statistical analysis. The results show a moderately relationship between previous knowledge and fixation counts.PDF2 -

131-153Views:12The meeting Researches in Didactics of Mathematics and Computer Sciences was held in Hajdúszoboszló, Hungary from the 26th to the 28th of January, 2018. It was organized by the Doctoral School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences of University of Debrecen.
The 61 participants – including 47 lectures and 17 PhD students – came from 8 countries, 21 cities and represented 37 institutions of higher and secondary education.PDF2
