    Katalin Juhász was born in 1952, in Tarnaméra (Hungary), where she also completed her primary school studies. She finished Erzsébet Szilágyi Highschool, Eger, in 1971 and she graduated in mathematics from Lajos Kossuth University (KLTE), Debrecen, in 1976. That year she married a physicist and together they brought up their son.

    Our great friend, the always helpful supporter of the Hungarian mathematics didactics, Bernd Zimmermann, the retired mathematics didactics professor of Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, passed away on 19th of July 2018. After a short chronology of his life, we remember some of the many areas of his work with strong Hungarian connections.

    The legendary mathematics teacher of Secondary School Fazekas in Debrecen, Zoltán Szvetits passed away on 5th November 2014, at the age of 84. Beginning in 1954 he had been teaching here almost forty years. His pupils and the society of teachers have lost an outstanding teacher character. This secondary school has been well known for decades about its special mathematics class with 10 math lessons a week. This special class was designed and established by Zoltán Szvetits.
