Tinédzserkori gyermekvállalás és iskolai lemorzsolódás – Egy fiatalokkal végzett részvételi akciókutatás módszertani tapasztalatai
Views:504The study presents the experience of a youth participatory action research (YPAR) that was conducted in the summer of 2020 by the research group of 11 researchers: 10, 13–24-year-old Roma youngsters and 1 facilitator. The topics of the research were teenage childbearing and school dropout, but the study focuses on the experiences of the concrete methods used during the research and the methodological and ethical considerations of YPAR. The main methods of participatory action research were online survey, as well as group and individual interviews. Each phase of the research was designed and carried out with the involvement of young researchers. Research demonstrates that the involvement and participation of youth should become part of the way how we think about them, the programs targeting them and for this we need to know their experiences, insights, emotions, fears and desires. Programs should respond in a meaningful way to the specific, local opportunities for secondary education, career opportunities, labour market circumstances and opportunities, and the emotional difficulties of primary and secondary school years.

A magyarországi szociálismunka-kutatások néhány kontextusban
Views:947In their study authors are seeking answer to the question whether social work research in Hungary can be characterised by scientifical and/or practical orientation and accordingly what its role in is maintaining the gap in the profession between theory and practice. The paper examines Hungarian social work research in a quasi-systematic review, for which theoretical backgrounds are views regarding social work practice research and social work knowledges, explored in previous papers of the same authors. The empirical base of the review is an analysis of the essays published in the two-volume collection ’Tudományos gondolkodás és kutatás szerepe a szociális munkában’ (translate as ’Role of scientifical thinking and research in social work’) being an adequate representation of recent Hungarian research on social work. The review indicates that Hungarian research on social work can be placed on a continuum ranging from theoretical to practical approach, although research involving practitioner-researchers, or examining and developing the practical knowledge are not typical features of it.

A szociális szakemberek digitális technológia és közösségi média használata
Views:927The study presents the results of research on the use of digital technology and social media by social professionals. The research was carried out using a quantitative method, 337 social professionals filled out the questionnaire. I examined the attitudes and needs of social professionals, IT proficiency, digital literacy, characteristics of social media use, with reference to online contact with clients and conscious media use. According to the results, the attitudes of social professionals are positive about the use of technology. Online contact with clients is very common, however, most institutions do not have any recommendations or regulations in this regard. 7 out of 10 respondents never participated in IT, digital competence development training and most of them consider that they did not receive adequate training in the use of info communication technologies during their studies. They see a need to support the procurement of new tools and programs and they would need guidelines, recommendations on the use of technology and social media. The study concludes with a summary of the research results and the formulation of development proposals.

Epizodisták főszerepben – a szenvedélybetegek testvérei
Views:573In this study I take a closer look at siblings of drug addicts. We can find similar researches about parents and spouses, but rarely about siblings. The purpose of this study is to bridge this gap. In this research, five semi-structured interviews were conducted with members of the Blue Point Foundation Sibling Group, and one interview was done with a non-member. The interviews were processed with thematic analysis.
Results: The results show that substance use was negatively altering the relationships between siblings and family members. In all cases siblings were aware of substance use way before their parents. They feel responsible for saving the drug user family member. Substance use negatively affects school achievements, work performance and day-to-day life of those around the user.
Conclusion: I would like to raise the attention of professionals and parents for the need of helping siblings of drug users.

Együttműködési kapcsolatok és hálózati struktúrák a győri várostérség szociális intézményrendszerében
Views:194The main objective of the survey is the empirical analysis of the inter-organizational relationships of the social care institutions with social network methods in Győr and the surrounding micro-regions. We measured and described the network structure and pattern of the organizational field, the basic directions and types, forms, frequency, intensity and the quality of inter-organizational cooperation. We are looking for answers to what factors hinder cooperation in this particular organizational milieu? What organizations are the key players of the network? How strong the position and effect of Győr as a regional centre in the cooperation network of the social sector? The network indicators have confirmed that the web of connections in the field of social care system is organized around a core institutional domain with only 5-6 dominant actors. The key players of the system with high network centrality and prestige are the big sized, functionally complex, territorially combined institutions. It has also been shown that, in addition to these central core members, the majority of the analysed organizations have a relation with each other only in a limited number, the network density is low, the centrality index is high, and the geographical distance is decreasing the probability of inter-organizational relations. In the whole network the probability and the number of intra-regional, national or international ties are also limited.

Views:328The topic was the problem map of the projects for catch-up in the 2014-2020 period, based on the literature related to segregation phenomena, the analysis of related documents and interviews with social workers working in the field.
The main problem areas that emerged during the research were: the use of concepts related to segregation, the delimitation and selection of segregation, and the various difficulties of project format implementation. Further, detailed research on the phenomena would be important, the phenomena related to segregation can be considered an important social problem for decades and understanding the difficulties can be a key element of successful interventions.

Kutassunk együtt – A kutatási gyakorlat és a kutatótáborok szerepe a szociális munka oktatásában
Views:273Rethinking the relation of theory and practice is in the focus nowadays regarding social studies. Define the ideal rate of practice in study programs is not easy, just as to determine those competencies and knowledge that able to reply to the differing needs of the labor market. The need-to-know basis which defines directly the tools of a practicing social worker is changing steadily by the societal- and economic transformation. Accordingly to this phenomenon, raise awareness relating to the learning process, innovative tools for both informal and formal (extra-)curricular trainings have become important features of education. In this learning environment, students are able to focus on better knowledge, understanding, and traceability of their individual growth. Moreover, innovative methods create an opportunity to develop values, attitudes, and professionalism. Organizing and implementing research-camps, where students can deepen their knowledge of social research methods, is perfectly fits this approach. We have to see that learning is not an activity we can define precisely, rather something complex, strongly determined by the situation, as different people learn differently, indeed, the same person has different ways to get the knowledge in different situations. This is particularly true for research-camps where the specific learning environment has catalyzing role in transforming procedural knowledge. One advantage of procedural knowledge is that it can involve more senses, such as hands-on experience, practice at solving problems, understanding of the limitations of a specific solution, etc. Camping is an outstanding and effective stage in social learning as well. Experience as usable knowledge in subsequent situations may remain by reflecting on solving problems and experiences. (Gruber & Garabás, 2018) In the practice of the Department of Community and Social Studies (University of Pécs) students participate in research planning and implementing from the setting of targets through data collection and processing till publishing results. Studied phenomenons, processes, and correlations are often the proofs of the complexity of society for those with significantly different socio-economic backgrounds. The community-shaping effect is another crucial aspect in the integration of research-camps into our curriculum. The decreasing number of full-time students and the fact that most of them are employees (self-supporters) affect the quantity and the quality of community activities. Research-camps, besides deepening and exploiting knowledge, create opportunities for collaboration and savoring mutual experiences.

Milyen változást hozott az esetmenedzserek színre lépése? – A hatalom, az empowerment és a szolgáltatások minőségének kérdése egy terepkutatás tapasztalatai alapján
Views:637A tanulmány a szerző által 2016–2017-ben lefolytatott kutatás során nyert tapasztalatokon alapul. A vizsgálat célja az volt, hogy feltérképezze a 2016-os jogszabályi változás eredményeként kialakuló esetmenedzseri rendszer működésének sajátosságait, a jogszabályváltozás közvetlenül érzékelhető következményeit. Az esetmenedzserek konfliktusos helyzete és szerepe mellett láthatóvá vált a gyermeknevelési problémákkal küszködő családok magára maradottsága, az értük dolgozó szakemberek helyzetének tisztázatlansága. A tanulmány két esetismertetéssel illusztrálja a gyermekjóléti rendszer sérülékenységét, a kliensek és a szakemberek kiszolgáltatottságát, a beavatkozások esetlegességét.
„A képessé tétel nem recept a társadalmi elnyomás és igazságtalanság, a hatalomnélküliség problémáira, de mint látásmód, eszköz és módszer lehetőséget biztosít önmagunkkal és másokkal egy demokratikusabb és bizalomteljesebb kapcsolat kialakítására, és mint ilyen, új utakat nyithat meg, új megoldások keresésére sarkallhat, miközben újra felfedezhetjük saját tudásunkat és közösségünk erejét, erőforrásait.” (Lakatos 2009)
Tanulmányomban a 2016. januárban bevezetett gyermekvédelmi törvény módosítása eredményeként beléptetett esetmenedzserek szerepére, a gyermekjóléti szolgálatok munkájára irányuló kutatás részeredményeit ismertetem. A vizsgálatban azt kívántam feltárni, hogy az esetmenedzserek valóban segítik-e a gyermeknevelési problémákkal küszködő családok szolgáltatásokhoz való hozzáférésének a hatékonyságát. Mindezek mellett – korábbi vizsgálataimhoz hasonlóan – újra arra irányítottam az adatfelvételt, hogy a szociális szakemberek (szociális munkások, szociálpedagógusok) milyen módszertani felkészültséggel végzik a munkájukat, döntéseik meghozatalában milyen szempontok érvényesülnek.
Két esetleírás segítségével írok arról, hogy a szakemberek mennyire képesek a szociális munka egyik központi elvének tekintett empowerment céljához igazítani mindennapi tevékenységeiket: képesek-e a gyakran deprofesszionalizált keretek között a professzionális segítségnyújtásra, képesek-e a társadalmi távolságok csökkentésére, saját kognitív konstruktumaik felülírására? Mi a jellemző a gyermekjóléti szolgálatok munkájában: a bürokratikus, redukált tartalmú segítségnyújtás, mely kiszolgálja a fennálló hatalmi rendszert vagy a kliensek társadalmi integrációját támogató empatikus viszonyulás? -
Lehetőségek és akadályok a nevelőszülők és pedagógusok közötti együttműködésben
Views:540Parenting refers to the reciprocal relationship between parent and child, which research often examines in terms of the child's progress in school. The present research analyses the characteristics of the interaction between foster parents and school. Our aim is to explore the specific aspects of foster parent involvement and to identify the factors that support and hinder the relationship between teachers and foster parents. The novelty of the research is that it examines the issue from the perspective of foster parents and teachers in Hajdú-Bihar County. The basic questions are: (1) How can the relationship between foster parents and school be characterised? (2) What form does the relationship and cooperation take? (3) What factors influence the partnership? Data collection was based on semi-structured interviews with 15 foster parents and 10 teachers. The results showed that the relationship was typically personal and that teachers' empathic attitudes, considering the specific fostering situations, were supportive factors. However, both parties reported a number of negative experiences, suggesting that cooperation is hampered by various barriers and misconceptions. The research also highlighted that a partnership approach between educational actors (teachers, foster parents) and training in child protection skills are essential for more effective cooperation.

Önkéntesek a jövő alkimistái
Views:296A 21. században az alulról jövő kezdeményezések egy új generációja, a forprofit szektor módszereit és a nonprofit szektor céljait ötvöző társadalmi innovációk sora bukkant fel világszerte, így hazánkban is. A szélesebb társadalmi kört vagy lokális közösségeket érintő problémákat felismerő és azonosító fiatalok saját válaszokat és megoldásokat adnak azokra a kérdésekre, melyeket kormányzati vagy egyéb felülről jövő kezdeményezések és beavatkozások nem voltak képesek hathatósan megválaszolni.
Írásomban végzős mesterszakos hallgatóként végzett kutatásom eredményeit mutatom be. A 2018-ban elvégzett kutatásban azt vizsgáltam, hogy az egyes társadalmi innovációk ötletgazdái milyen hatások összességével váltak a társadalom alkimistáivá, milyen benyomások, attitűdök ismerhetők fel közös jegyekként életútjukban, maguk mely hatásokat azonosítják fordulópontként életükben, melyeknek hatására a társadalmi problémák megoldására irányuló törekvéseik hivatásukká váltak. A kutatás kitért arra is, hogy mit gondolnak a közösségi szolgálat elvégzésével érintett csoportok a társadalmi alkimistákról, véleményük szerint alkalmas-e a közösségi szolgálat arra, hogy megalapozza a fiatalok későbbi társadalmi felelősségvállalását és aktivitását.
A kutatás eredményei azt mutatják, hogy a fiatalkori önkéntesség, mint közösségi aktivitás, a korai pozitív tapasztalatok és az önkéntesség élményszerűsége, a felkészítést végzők támogató figyelme, valamint a felkészítésre szánt idő jelentősen befolyásolja a fiatalok későbbi, felnőttkori társadalmi aktivitását. A középiskolás csoportok, bár nagyra tartják azokat, akik a közösségért tesznek, a kötelező szolgálatot nem érzik motivációnak arra, hogy csatlakozzanak kezdeményezésekhez.

Házi segítségnyújtás iránti igények időbeliségének mérése
Views:742The aim of the research is to map out the temporal distribution of demands for home care services with special attention to the time periods outside normal service hours (on weekdays, from 8 to 16). It also describes the factors influencing demand and identifies the types of demand typical of the hours outside working time.
The research has been carried out on a sample of 103 individuals, all clients of a social care institution, by way of voluntary and anonymous questionnaires. The questionnaires have been analysed along five research questions and seven hypotheses. Demands for home care clearly varied with regard to temporal distribution (daily and weekly patterns), and the research could also specify the types of activity requested. Based on this data we can clearly identify the need for services outside general service hours. The hypothesised background factors influencing the demand for care services have not proven to affect the use of service significantly; more research is needed in this field.

Views:512In the case of the elderly with dementia, the study examines how the network of carers who have an informal or formal relationship with them changes over time and how the relationship between them develops. According to the theoretical starting point of the writing, the individual is surrounded by a network of caregivers (“convoy”) during their career (mostly in old age), and caregivers shape their own and the other party’s caring roles during their interactions. Empirical research has examined the history of the division of labour between family members and professional caregivers by means of qualitative interview, the more memorable interactions affecting the division of labor, and their perceptions of caregiver roles among the family members and professional caregivers of the elderly with dementia.

A szociális munka etika oktatása
Views:553How does the teaching of ethics appear in the education of social work and is this enough? I would like to answer to these questions in this article. In my thesis I tried to approach the topic from several aspects. On the one hand, I prepared questionnaires for bachelor students participating in various social work trainings. On the other hand I interviewed students, entrants and tutors. Finally, I reviewed the curriculums of these trainings, searching for subjects, which name refers that the subject includes aspects of social work ethics.
Why is this topic so important? That is because social work is a profession of human rights, which not only aims to get people to respect rights but to guarantee their implementation and realization. Indeed, the task is to develop and protect these fundamental human rights, too. However, this is only possible if the social workers are aware of the Code of Ethics and the professional values, as essential parts of professional competences.
The research concluded that the ethics education in universities and colleges is not structured and focused enough and still there are some social work students and professionals who do not know the Code of Ethics, did not hear about the Association of Social Work Ethics. Consequently, they may have difficulties to solve pivotal problems, and recognize dilemmas in the field of ethics.
Nincs szociális munka szakmai etika nélkül. Ebben valószínűleg mindannyian egyetértünk, ahogy a szakirodalomban is olvasható „…a szociális munkában minden döntés tartalmaz etikai aspektusokat” (Loewenberg, Dolgoff 1988a: 181). Mégis, annak ellenére, hogy a szociális munkának szerves része a szakmai etika – vagy annak kellene lennie –, igen kevés tanulmány található ebben a témában a hazai szakirodalomban. Hogyan lehetséges az, hogy úgy kell kutatni, vadászni a kapcsolódó olvasmányokat? Pedig szükség lenne szakirodalomra, hiszen a „hatékony gyakorlat feltétele a dilemmákhoz való tudatos viszonyulás” (Andok, Tímár 2002: 88). Hogyan jelenik meg az etika oktatása a képzésben és ez mennyire elegendő? Erre a kérdésfeltevésre épül ez az írás. -
Az LMBTQ közösség nemzetközi és hazai elfogadottságának vizsgálata
Views:843In our study, we examined the acceptance of the LGBTQ community in Hungary and internationally along different dimensions using a hybrid approach. Using the quantitative data analysis method, we investigated Hungarian LGBTQ acceptance in an international context using longitudinal data from the European Social Survey. In the focus group qualitative study, we investigated the attitudes, acceptance and opinions of university students in Debrecen. The results of the 2020 Hungarian survey show that the acceptance of LGBTQ people is lower among older, primary-educated, right-wing, religious people. Compared to 2016 and 2018, Hungarian society has become more tolerant despite the anti-LGBTQ public mood, which is in line with international trends. The results of the 2022 focus group survey also confirmed the trends identified by the ESS. Acceptance is influenced by the political and legal environment in Hungary and the media representation created by these influences. In addition to these macro- factors, family, educational institution, and religion play an important role as micro- factors. All of these have an impact on acceptance and can perpetuate prejudices and stereotypes towards the LGBTQ community.

Párkapcsolati elégedettség segítő hivatású szakemberek körében: értékek, elvárások és kihívások a hallgatók szemszögéből
Views:96The present study aims to examine relationship satisfaction, support preferences, and partner-selection attitudes among students preparing for helping professions, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of balancing professional identity and private life. A total of 138 students completed the questionnaire, which assessed demographic characteristics, relationship status, and individual preferences. The results indicate that the most important relationship preferences include reliability, a shared vision for the future, and supportive involvement; most respondents seek a partner who contributes to the stability of the relationship on both emotional and practical levels. Overall, relationship satisfaction proved to be high within the sample: love, fulfilment of needs, and perceived relationship quality received positive evaluations in more than 80% of responses, while relationship regret appeared at a low rate. Sexual satisfaction and the presence of relationship problems showed greater variability, suggesting diversity in relational functioning. The students’ preference system emphasizes emotional security, honest communication, and value-based thinking, which reflects the empathetic and human-centred attitudes characteristic of the helping professions. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of relationship dynamics from the perspective of those entering helping fields.

Stigmatization of Children and Youth of the Socially Non-homogeneous Neighborhoods: Analysis of the Mechanisms of the Neighborhood Effects and the Concept of Empowering Social Work
Views:120The manuscript presents a concept of the mechanisms of the neighborhood effects which has been empirically grounded in a long-term qualitative study conducted by me in one of Łódź disadvantaged residential environments. The theory generated during the study fits into a model that explains the neighborhood impact in terms of social processes endogenous to the neighborhood. In particular, it offers an explanation of the neighborhood impact in terms of social heterogeneity and consequential stigmatization of the selected groups of residents. The reconstruction of the stigmatization process and its outcomes for the selected groups of residents − children and youth − inspired my reflection on empowering social work in socially non-homogeneous neighborhoods, which I also put forward in this contribution.

A tranzitív változások integratív megközelítése a gerontológia kulcskoncepciói mentén
Views:1713This study connecting to the research for inquiry of the hazard about the demographical changes in the society, put the question, that the arriving the big demographical wave of the generation who was born between 1946 and 1964 particularly during the „Ratkó period” of the fifties to the old age, which kind of difficulties comes up in the care system for the older people because of the demographical hazards. According to the starting point of our hypothesis the adverse health conditions and psychosocial problems underlines the importance of the prevention, while the programmes of the primer prevention in the Hungarian care system proves insufficient, and the secondary prevention is unsettled. In the focus of our research programme are the theoretical, methodological questions, and questions about the possibilities of the development of the social service system for the secondary prevention on the field of the elder care. Considering the complexity of this subject, in this study we try to take out of the topic of theoretical background of the transitive changes of aging in scope of „desk-based research” for develop a new conceptual framework of the transitive changes in integrative approach based on key-concepts on modern gerontology.

Kiszolgáltatottság, társadalmi hátrányok
Views:113This paper examines the life situation of homeless people within social security around the concept of Amartya Sen's capability approach. The analysed database is the 2023 “February Third” countrywide homeless survey, in which a total of 7,362 people living in homelessness were interviewed. The analysis of the survey presents the main demographic (age) and social (income, work capability, health status, reasons of becoming homeless, housing security) characteristics of homeless people, as well as the effects of the 2023 recession. One of the results of the data analysis – which primarily applied multivariate social statistical methods – is that it highlighted some contradictions present within the survey data. By understanding these paradoxes, it can be concluded that, on the one hand, there are social patterns of deprivation from resources (and consequently from opportunities), which accumulate; and on the other hand, these patterns do not form randomly. Thirdly, these patterns of disadvantage are not evenly distributed among homeless people. The research thus shows that different degrees of deprivation mark out distinct deprivational pathways.

Egy jobb élet reményében : Magyar hajléktalanok Bázelben
Views:283This paper aims to introduce the living conditions, the migration-related motivations and the fulfilment of previous expectations of Hungarian homeless people living in Basel. The research was based on participatory observations conducted in social institutions as well as on semi-structured qualitative interviews carried out with both homeless people and social workers. The main findings of the study reveal that the Hungarian homeless community is rather heterogeneous considering the member’s age, background and the general circumstances of living. Despite of this heterogeneity, the common language and cultural background create a relatively strong bond among the affected people. Although Basel is not a primary target of economic migration, the tolerance of the authorities and the people, and the favourable living conditions affect a lot of Hungarian and other Eastern-European destitute people to the city. The previous expectations for living a better life and finding a job are regularly not fulfilled and people are often trapped in homelessness and poverty for a long-run.

A rizikómagatartás mintázatai a Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg megyei gyermekvédelmi szakellátásban élő fiatalok körében
Views:947The research to reveal the drug use habits of children and young people living in the social periphery was conducted in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in 2017. The target group of the research included 14–25-year-old young people living in slums and in child-protection service.
The aim of the study was to reveal the drug use habits and the risk behaviours of children and adolescents living in the periphery of the society. The study tries to find explanations to the risk factors of drug consumption of young people living in child-protection.
The characteristics of anomie in the target population is used to study the effects of drug consumption. The paper looks for answers to resilience from the available data and additionally it highlights the protective and risk factors that influence the development of substance use in the target group.
The results and conclusions from this research coupled with related international and Hungarian research are presented in this study. -
Tudás a szociális munkában – az elmélet és a gyakorlat viszonyában
Views:2969The study analyses the nature of knowledge in social work for better understanding the distance („gap”) between theory and practice. It provides a systematic synthesis of the theoretical interpretation and framework of social work knowledge furthermore summarizes the connection between this knowledge and the social work practice in Hungary. The spectrum of social work knowledge can be classified by numerous aspects, but it covers a much wider area than the theoretical or practical character of knowledge. The authors anticipate that each aspect of this knowledge has relevance for social work, therefore the deeper analysis and understanding of their roles can contribute to reducing the gap between theory and practice.

Duális szociális munkás képzés tapasztalatai a szegedi szociális munkás képzésben
Views:176The Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies at the University of Szeged launched the dual form of social work education in 2018. Several critiques emerged during the introduction of this training model; thus, the aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate its impacts, advantages, and challenges based on experiences gathered since its inception. The analysis adopts three primary perspectives: that of the educational institution itself, the field institutions acting as dual partners, and the students enrolled in the program. Experiences were explored through structured interviews and focus group discussions. The findings and recommendations outlined in this study may contribute to the further development and enhanced effectiveness of dual education.
