Everyone has probably encountered school abuse in their life, if nothing else as a spectator. These abuses may cause huge damages in a small child and having an effect on their socialization and psychological health, not only in their childhood, yet later, moreover in many cases they lead to suicide. Despite all of this, unfortunately, there are few well-elaborated methods and devices to prevent bullying, and they are not generally known in education either.

These thoughts had an inspiring effect when, within the framework of interprofessional project work, the sensitizing box as a tool, aimed at preventing school violence, and the related methodological proposal was created. The purpose of the tool is to integrate pedagogical and social work knowledge and offer teachers and social workers an effective opportunity to raise the topic and deal with the problem. The methodology uses the principles of experiential learning and prevention, adapting to the frameworks that are given to teachers and kindergarten and school social workers who appear in a school and encounter violence.

The study presents the process of the development work, there commendation for the use of the tool and the results of testing with groups of children.

How do social workers see their work, their calling? What changes did they go through, and how did they value these? To have an answer, I interviewed 13 social workers of a city in 2006 and in 2016 and 2017.

The interviewees have already changed their workplace and gone through other changes in their life, which they experienced differently. Most of them showed alternations in their attitude toward their work, one-third presented prolonged changes in their internal thinking and personality. They sense and follow changes in their profession, and in the society. Almost all of them think that they have the opportunity to find a new job either up to their circumstances or their personal qualities.

The outcome of this research can contribute to the general opinion about social workers’ career path, about which information is usually gathered during their studies.

The article aims at complementing the phenomenological analyses of trauma from a sociological point of view. Trauma is considered to be an impression, which cannot be integrated to the subject’s identity in a coherent manner. Such irreconcilable impressions could originate not only from individual life events, but also social dysfunctions. In order to map these dysfunctions classic and contemporary social theories are called upon: with their help those modern social sufferings are overviewed, which threaten with the emergence of traumatic experiences. The three thematic focus points of the article (in parallel with the dysfunctions identified by classical sociology) are anomie, reification and loss of meaning. In the fourth section of the article those forms of sociability are highlighted, which hold the potential of providing answers to the challenges of modernization: the emancipatory bourgeoisie public sphere and the intimacy as mutual disclosure. Finally, based on these conclusions a critical-network social work is highlighted.

The amendment deals with the levels of responsibility of the social care system in a new approach, strengthening the role of the individual and relegating the state to the background. In this study, I present the antecedents of the amendment, the most important events related to its adoption, and the basic principles of the new approach in comparison with the basic principles of social work. I will cover the most important critical points that arise during practical application.

Gábor Sztehlo, an evangelical pastor, is one of the leading figures of the 20th century. From the beginning of his career, he was known for his work in building churches, organising congregations, and establishing folk schools in Hungary. During World War II, Sztehlo was involved in the work of the Good Shepherd Association, which saved children of Jewish origin. Under his guidance between 1944 and 45, "hidden" children’s homes were run in 32 villas and apartments in Buda and Pest, with well-organised daily schedules and basic supplies, subjected to constant harassment by the Hungarian nazis. By the end of the war, he had rescued 1500 children and 500 adults. His service was outstanding in the rescue of Jews, recognised by the State of Israel with the "Yad Vashem" medal, and he was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Later, Gábor Sztehlo set up Gaudiopolis in the Pax Children's Home which was an example of children's republic as a pedagogical method. In the 1950s, he organised the diaconal work after the nationalisation of church property.

According to Hungarian youth surveys, we are witnessing a social group spending their free time pointlessly in a passive, recreative, mediatized and digital environment. No matter it’s a weekday or a weekend, many youngsters spend time doing practically nothing which is also reflected in the level of their active citizenship.

Our personal experiences confirm: youths spend little time in places controlled by adults; they prefer the ones without any supervision. The question arises: can we create community places that are popular, yet safe, inspiring to learn and able to promote social participation?

In the study, I attempt to present how to reach and involve the youth by a methodology that suits best to their free time spending patterns and to the way they use community places. To this, I briefly define the concepts of youth work and youth participation and I give a functioning Irish example. Later, I will summarize the key elements of the hang out method and attempt to back the recommended techniques by using my experiences and scientific literature.

I think that would be the tools of social work to expand the use of the name generator method.

This paper compares the perspectives of six professions -social workers, lawyers, nurses, physicians, psychologists, and public health professionals- on ways to improve the health and social conditions of a prototypical low-income urban community. It examines how the cohort defined and deliberated on the process of involving “the community” in addressing issues facing a hypothetical neighborhood, even when the question was not part of the research guidelines. A framework for constituency participation emerged from the data and was further developed to include 5 components: “who, why, when, ways and what level.” The type, level, and meaning of community was complex and multi-faceted, raising critical questions about professional-community relationships and the role of community development practitioners. Ultimately, community participation was identified as both difficult and transformative at the same time. Attention by community practitioners to the “five Ws framework for constituency participation” may maximize positive outcomes for collaboration between professionals and community.

This article aims to enrich knowledge about homeless women. As according to most research (although many argue that this can be caused by the methods used) there are more men than women in a situation of homelessness, most research focuses on men. After summarizing already existing evidence about homeless women in Hungary and abroad, the authors introduce their work. They analysed the case dossiers of fifty women sleeping in BMSZKI’s hostels for homeless people in Budapest. The description of basic demographics is followed by attributes special to women, like motherhood and keeping in touch with children (whether small children who are separated from them or grown ones) and romantic relationships. Data was recorded by social workers, and reflect their views, thoughts and the outcomes they esteem possible for the women. Results reflect the perceptions of the women and their support workers.

The investigation of social resources that facilitate problem-solving plays a major role in the understanding of internal client migration. This study deals primarily with the investigation of family- and social network in the broader sense by examining the risk factors of the given field. The quality of relationships determine quality of life in general. The intensity, depth and content of these relationships are all important resources in the personal life of the client. Besides these personal relationships, professional supporting relationships that help improve or maintain quality of life play a dominant role in the life of migrating clients. A further aim of the study is to review the literature and methodology of case diagnostics in the field of practice of individual and family-level case work. Thereby, we can interpret the system of lack of resources related to internal client migration and thus we can relocate the focus points of complex supporting work.

In this study, I outline the appearance of the mission of American social work in the second half of the 19th century, and then the construction of the conceptual elements of the profe ssion. The choice of cited, typically American authors is also narrowly tailored, however, in my opinion, they give an authentic picture of the conceptual construction of the profession and adequately depict the development arc that the profession, which started from the religious charity and has now matured into a profession and a science, has gone through in the last 125 years. In addition to all this, I also try to answer such questions as, for example, where are the boundaries between religious and professional assistance, what does professionalism mean in social work within a religious community or church, and what is needed for a better integration of spirituality into the professional practice.

  • The usefulness of the sources of formal and informal support in the context of the needs of families with children with disabilities
    Views:
    226

Background: A child’s disability changes the family and has an impact on the quality of life of all its members. Consequently, the family’s needs change as well, especially when it comes to their need for support.

Goal: The goal of this study was to map how families with children with disabilities perceive the usefulness of the sources of formal and informal support in the context of family needs, as very important feedback for social work and social policy as major actors in formal support.

Methods: The study was conducted using a quantitative research strategy. The relevant data was acquired using two standardized questionnaires – The Family Support Scale (FSS) by authors Dunst, Jenkins and Trivette (1984) and The Family Needs Survey by authors Bailey and Simeonsson (1988). The sample of respondents was comprised of 493 parents of children with disabilities, out of which there was a much larger number of women – mothers (N= 427) than men – fathers (N= 66).

Results: The results of the study suggest that for families with children with disabilities, the most dominant need is the support from their relatives, while they also feel an increased need for finances. In terms of the perception of the usefulness of sources, informal support was more dominant, and the support of a husband / wife / partner and close relatives was determined the most useful. The study proved the existence of various statistically significant links, such as the link between informal support in the form of parent groups, financial needs, and the need for support from the community.

Conclusion: The study proved an important fact – that whichever kind of formal, but mainly informal support has a direct influence on the extent of the satisfaction of needs. The presence and usefulness of sources of support positively impacts the satisfaction of family needs.

This review takes a closer look at the Women and housing: Housing solutions responding to the special needs of women study written by Fanni Dés and Zsuzsanna Pósfai. The authors ask how the housing crisis in Hungary affects women and what solutions can mitigate these effects. In the review, we summarize this study and discuss additional research areas worth analyzing. We identify the three most important contributions of the study. First, the authors connect the housing crisis with the oppression of women and by doing so, they can address the housing crisis within its social and economic context. Second, due to their qualitative methodology, the authors throw light upon the human face of the housing crisis and the vulnerability of women in it. Finally, by providing a guide to institutions and local governments, the study helps mitigate the effects of the housing crisis on women.

Persons living with mental disorders and homelessness belong to a particularly vulnerable client group. The stigma associated with mental illness reinforces the stigmatization of homelessness. If someone receives a psychiatric diagnosis, society treats it as a label and categorizes the person. Fear of being labeled undermines the motivation of people with mental disorders to seek help. A good example of this is the case of people living in homelessness and with mental disorders, who do not want to take on another stigma in addition to the stigma of homelessness and therefore do not use help or services in connection with their mental problems. Another difficulty is the problem of accessibility to services. The F3 report on the 2020 homeless data collection "After the criminal law - before the pandemic" Péter Győri's summary work Becoming homeless - services - perspectives shows that 29% of the respondents were receiving psychiatric treatment. The misconception that "homeless people are mentally ill, psychiatric patients" can be found in the work of Péter Győri (Győri, 2020). At the same time, we know that not all people with mental disorders appear in the care system, so there may be more than 29% of people who are affected by the problem. The Budapest Methodological Social Center and Institutions (BMSZKI) has developed a complex rehabilitation service for people living in homelessness and with mental disorders in cooperation with the Awakenings Foundation. The purpose of this paper is to present this practice.

The child is the key to the future, so child protection is a fundamental social issue. To grow up in specialty care and then start out from there, start an independent life for young adults. They are primitive in the absence of minimal governmental grants and support nets. Heroes of our time and real sacrifices, who have been trapped in the trap of specialized authorities, separated most of their lives from their systems of origin and natural resources. Whatever the case of child protection in Hungary, no matter how close to family -friendly character, it cannot provide ready -made answers. There are lack of solution strategies and schemes that would help young adults' lifestyles. Young people who are out of their own fault or for reasons beyond their own fault are difficult to control their lives. They will be able to establish a well -functioning family with much more challenges. We know little about state care about school careers, establishing a family, work and how the system prepared them for their own life. This study attempts to give this problem an empirical picture of capitalized life expectations after being removed from child protection. We do this strictly by systematizing their experience in the light of a study between November 2021 and January 2022.
