LECTURERS IN THE POST-ACADEMIC WORLD – THE FINDINGS OF A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
7-18Views:136We can find the trace of the fragmentation and deprofessionalisation of the lecturers’ jobs from the early nineties in the field of higher education research. The post-academic phase which was described by Ziman (2002) become more typical in Hungary, too. This shift can reduce the artisan way of research, make the quantification more significant and increase the frequency of teamwork. Scott (2009) highlights that this generates such an organisational environment that is full of elements of alienation and the usage of ICT tools can amplify this tendency. The aim of this article is to reveal the reflexions of the lecturers on this specific environment with the help in 31 semi-structured interviews. We recorded the interviews in ten cities of Hungary and the lecturers came from 12 disciplines. The elements of lecturers’ work were identified (research, teaching, administration, and taking part in applications) but it is hard to see successful examples to put these parts together in high quality. The patterns of these elements are different in the fragmented world of higher education and the expectations of institutions can form their significance at the same time. The barriers to academic careers in the post-academic phase became identifiable at the same time.

EXCELLENT AT BEING TALENTED. RESEARCH: YOUNG GRADUATE WOMEN LIFE STARTING CHANCES OF WORKING ABROAD
17-35Views:110This study seeks to determine whether it is an exceptional talent and hard work, or courage mixed with young energy and luck, maybe all these together, that makes it possible for young adults with a fresh diploma in the 2010s to find their future in Europe’s labor market. Sample: n = 28 (22-35 years old) women. Method: semi-structured interview. Results: even though all the interviewees are unique, all the participants can be said to have a few things in common; persistent study and exceptional diligence paired with talent. There is, however, one more thing shared across 98% of interviewees in our research sample; when asked if they will come back to Hungary, they answered without hesitation that they didn’t think they ever would.

CAN THERE BE A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NLP ASSUMPTIONS AND SUBJECTIVE WELFARE?
79-86Views:122This study investigates the relationship between the acceptance of the presuppositions of neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and the level of subjective well-being (SWB), psychological immunity, and assertive communication. The results provide evidence that acceptance of the presuppositions represent a way of thinking that is positively associated with SWB and it is also positively related to psychological immunity. However, no association was found between the acceptance of the presuppositions and assertive behaviour which may suggest that there is a gap between conceptual acceptance and its practical realization.

RIGHT TO LIFE IN HUNGARY AND IN THE EU: THE EVER-TROUBLESOME ISSUE OF ABORTION
83-90Views:428In relation to one of the human rights, right to life, most frequently there are, at least, two challenging fields might be brought up, one is death penalty, and the other is termination of pregnancy or abortion. If one intends to comprehend how abortion has been dealt with historically in the western legal tradition one must first come to terms with two quite different but interrelated historical trajectories, the ancient Judeo-Christian condemnation of prenatal homicide as a wrong justifying retribution; and, there is the juristic definition of "crime" in the modern sense of the word.

SETTLEMENTS AND PEOPLE MID-TERM INVESTIGATION OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A DESEGREGATION PROGRAM
57-76Views:253Programs aimed to eliminate segregated life conditions have appeared again in domestic integration practice in the last two decades. The goal of “Roma settlement programs” is the implementation of complex interventions improving social integration and housing conditions in communities, and social work has an important role in this process. We will examine in our study the relevance of social work in an ongoing integration program in the framework of a survey that questioned social workers and residents of the segregates. The research focuses on two aspects of the programs. First, the social workers’ experiences will be examined about their work and processes that complicate it, and secondly, a survey conducted among the target group will investigate the utilization of the elements in the program and the characteristics of the relations between the target groups. Finally, the policy background of the programs, changes in the regulations of social work, and opinions of the professionals and target groups will be introduced compared similar programs in nearly a hundred settlements in the country.

THE PLACE OF THE GYPSY LANGUAGE IN PUBLIC EDUCATION
73-81Views:152The Hungarian gypsy population is not only varied from the social, cultural, and ethnic side, but also from the lingual viewpoint. The education, health, the situation of the labour market, and the social sciences discourses are continuously in connection with the Gypsy people. At the same time, the examination of the gypsy language and the use of gypsy language can only be the interest of a narrow professional circle, while the phases of gradual language changes, language retention, and loss, or the language policy issues are showing particular problems. We are talking about a language that has been able to preserve its origins, besides the forced lingual and ethical assimilation. In our country, the form of national upbringing and education is always really closely related to educational policy. In my opinion, every student in the educational institutions is enriched with the knowledge of other nationalities' cultures and language, as they have the opportunity for studying it. During the statistical analysis, we looking for answers to the question of whether this relationship can be traced between the territorial distribution of Roma Gypsies and the schools of Gypsy nationality education.

Experiences of School Social Work in the Light of Research
19-30Views:84In the last twenty years, school social work has received increasing attention both in Hungary and internationally, and there is a growing need for the presence of a social professional in educational institutions. Since the mandatory introduction of the service, several empirical and theoretical studies have been published on the subject, which report on the practical experience and the insights of the professionals. In our research question, we looked for the answer to the experiences of the operation of school social work, in studies that were born in the first three years of the mandatory introduction. The selected six studies were analyzed on the basis of three aspects which is the integration of the social worker in the institution, the number of hours spent by the social worker at the school and the characteristics of the development of professional collaborations. The document analysis reveals that the social worker's personality, clear competence boundaries, the number of hours spent in the institution and the level of interprofessional cooperation have great importance for the integration of professionals into educational institutions. The present study aims to contribute to the theoretical foundations of a comprehensive empirical study of the current functioning of Hungarian school social work.

LIVING CONDITIONS OF FAMILIES RAISING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN BERETTYÓÚJFALU
7-23Views:117Bass (2004) examined the living conditions of families raising severely disabled children in the framework of national data collection. His research results reflect the circumstances nearly twenty years ago. The present study aims is to compare the research results of Bass to the present living conditions of interviewees who live in Berettyóújfalu in the 2020s, revealing the changes which have occurred in their lifestyle, family relationships, and future plans in the course of the past years. We used a qualitative interview to reveal the characteristics of the living conditions of ten families living in Berettyóújfalu. According to our research results, there are positive tendencies in the families’ social situation, relationship system or in the economic activity of the parents, but they still face hardship and drawbacks in accessing public services and ensuring their child’s long-term future.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF DISABILITY ATTITUDE FORMATION PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE USED IN PUBLIC EDUCATION
65-80Views:242Social sensitization created in an organized form can be an extremely powerful tool for society to become more accepting of different disabilities, and all of these can also support the more effective social integration of people with disabilities. Rejection or distancing can mostly be the result of a lack of information, so if society gets more insight and information about all this, a higher degree of acceptance can be assumed. In recent decades, the number of programs and events that set this goal has increased spectacularly. Based on the conclusions of international attitude surveys, it can be formulated as an essential variable the quality and quantity of information the respondent has about the given group, whether there is a person with a disability in his microenvironment, whether he has already established an interaction with them, and also the impulses received from the immediate environment, the family values can be an influencing factor. The foreign research on the subject also points out that attitude formation started at an early age can be really effective, and that the impulses received in institutional education can largely determine the attitude of students towards their peers with disabilities. After summarizing the international and domestic attitude research, an analysis of sensitization programs available in Hungary within the framework of institutional education, which may be suitable for shaping attitudes towards disability, was carried out with the help of a system of criteria compiled along these lines. The aspects of the analysis include how many types of disabilities are included, which age group the program is suitable for, with what intensity and how many times participation is possible, the nature of the knowledge transfer, and whether it is possible to come into contact with a disabled person, thus giving the opportunity to gather personal experience. The aim of the analysis is to compare the available programs with the results of foreign attitude surveys to identify the most optimal and widely applicable sensitization programs.

CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL PROCESSES IN TISZALÖK
95-104Views:165Our research conducted in Tiszalök is a part of a longer, multiple part research series, in which we will identify the main social features and map the current social processes in the less populous settlements of the more deprived regions of the country in particular. Basically, the aim of our research is to understand and present the perspective of the local people. The decisive criterion for the selection of research sites was that the smaller settlements of these peripheral regions are subject to rather unfavorable socio-demographic processes, including in particular the decline in the population, aging, and the increase in the share of the disadvantaged populations. These processes – unless there are significant changes – project an even more unfavorable vision of the future. The adverse socio-demographic processes described above are definitely observable in Tiszalök. Related to this, the primary objective of the research was to understand the opportunities, goals, and vision of the local youth most affected by migration, as well as to recognize the local community relations and the characteristics of cohabitation of the Roma and non-Roma population in particular.

Lent and Easter in the Philippines:Catholic Religious Practices in the Discourse of Gender Performativity.
123-134Views:281Filipinos consider Holy Week as the holiest of days of Lent and Easter. During this time, the country is shrouded with centuries-old rituals and practices that persist in contemporary times. Using the framework of gender performativity, this study examines three forms of pamamanata (devotion): pagsasanto (taking care of a religious image), penitensya (penance), and salubong (Easter procession). The aim is to identify pamamanata practices that align with the feminine, masculine, gay, and those bordering between masculine and feminine tropes. The study maximized data from the author’s fieldwork and ethnographic materials written by academics. This study found that the three pamamanata traditions are gendered practices and that these are affected by the agencies of the family, community, and religion.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ETHICAL LEADERSHIP ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE: SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW
101-112Views:259This paper's goal is to develop an appropriate systematic literature review of the research that has investigated how ethical leadership affects employees' performance within an enterprise. The growth of multinational corporations provides a new dimension to the investigation of leadership that takes into account the effect of diverse country cultures. This systematic literature review analyzed publications and articles published within the last decade (2009- 2020). Based on the overall research of the 19 analyzed studies top managers, leaders, and supervisors are supposed to set a good example for their team members and employees by modeling ethical behavior. The effectiveness of top managers and leaders on employees and their performance has been thoroughly investigated in many research. All hypotheses were supported by the data collected from 19 papers, which showed that ethical leadership improves employees' in-role job performance. These findings have important research and practical consequences. Additionally, since ethical leadership is seen to be essential in enhancing the accepted business strategy in the achievement of organizations’ objectives and goals, this research will concentrate on the effects of an ethical leadership style on the performance of employees.

THE SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS AND ACADEMIC PREPAREDNESS OF STEM STUDENTS IN HUNGARY
73-86Views:170Although the dropout behavior and labor market opportunities of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students and the masculinization of STEM fields are all well-researched topics in STEM research, there is a very limited body of literature focusing on the social background and academic preparedness of STEM applicants. Thus, in this research, we compared STEM and non-STEM students based on their type of settlement, type of secondary school program, the rate of students coming from a disadvantaged background, extra points given for academic accomplishments, and total application score. To identify variables that significantly predict getting admitted to a STEM field, we conducted binary logistic regression. During our research, we conducted the analysis using the 2017 Hungarian Admission Database. Our sample consisted of those who got admitted to a full-time BA/BSc or undivided course (N = 41324). According to our results, STEM students cannot be identified as a disadvantaged group either in terms of their social background or their lack of academic preparedness. According to the results of the binary logistic regression, the main predictors of getting admitted to a STEM field are gender (male), having a language certificate, and having a vocational training certificate. The main goal of our research was to explore whether the individual characteristics of STEM students can be the reason behind the high attrition rates specific to STEM fields. Since our results did not support this conclusion, we suppose to further investigate the role of institutional variables (such as climate, the selective approach of college teachers, and high academic expectations) in dropouts.

ABORTION: A NEVER-ENDING INTERDISCIPLINARY DEBATE
85-94Views:371This study is the second part of the examination, considering the multifaceted feature of debates surrounding the termination of pregnancy. Although we may suppose that the so-called pro-life and pro-choice supporters have already paved their rigid ways of thinking with no possibility or hope for any modification, it might come as a surprise to learn that even Christian and Buddhist points of view can be tuned. Health-related disciplines, such as psychology keep reflecting on the issues of abortion with more and more emphasis on the post period of it.
