The study analyses the nature of knowledge in social work for better understanding the distance („gap”) between theory and practice. It provides a systematic synthesis of the theoretical interpretation and framework of social work knowledge furthermore summarizes the connection between this knowledge and the social work practice in Hungary. The spectrum of social work knowledge can be classified by numerous aspects, but it covers a much wider area than the theoretical or practical character of knowledge. The authors anticipate that each aspect of this knowledge has relevance for social work, therefore the deeper analysis and understanding of their roles can contribute to reducing the gap between theory and practice.

The article examines the existence of the famous slum in the city centre, the functions of it in the local social policy from the viewpoint of an NGO field worker. Gans’ functionalist method and the wilder context may explain the fact that there is no plan for the liquidation of the settlement since two years, although the money is given. The article analyses how became the stigma of the slum useful by the media, art, charity actions through political aims and how this special situation reinforced by the COVID–19.

This study connecting to the research for inquiry of the hazard about the demographical changes in the society, put the question, that the arriving the big demographical wave of the generation who was born between 1946 and 1964 particularly during the „Ratkó period” of the fifties to the old age, which kind of difficulties comes up in the care system for the older people because of the demographical hazards. According to the starting point of our hypothesis the adverse health conditions and psychosocial problems underlines the importance of the prevention, while the programmes of the primer prevention in the Hungarian care system proves insufficient, and the secondary prevention is unsettled. In the focus of our research programme are the theoretical, methodological questions, and questions about the possibilities of the development of the social service system for the secondary prevention on the field of the elder care. Considering the complexity of this subject, in this study we try to take out of the topic of theoretical background of the transitive changes of aging in scope of „desk-based research” for develop a new conceptual framework of the transitive changes in integrative approach based on key-concepts on modern gerontology.

The study presents the results of research on the use of digital technology and social media by social professionals. The research was carried out using a quantitative method, 337 social professionals filled out the questionnaire. I examined the attitudes and needs of social professionals, IT proficiency, digital literacy, characteristics of social media use, with reference to online contact with clients and conscious media use. According to the results, the attitudes of social professionals are positive about the use of technology. Online contact with clients is very common, however, most institutions do not have any recommendations or regulations in this regard. 7 out of 10 respondents never participated in IT, digital competence development training and most of them consider that they did not receive adequate training in the use of info communication technologies during their studies. They see a need to support the procurement of new tools and programs and they would need guidelines, recommendations on the use of technology and social media. The study concludes with a summary of the research results and the formulation of development proposals.

In the period between 2018 and 2020, two organizations in the city of Tapolca also launched programs aimed at the prevention of mental health and prevention of addictions. In the present study, the focus is on the collaborations that have taken place on the programs and on the motivation of the professionals in terms of getting involved in the programs. The basic question is what effect the established collaborations will have on social professionals and the services they provide in the future. The evaluation of the results has shown that responding to the social problems present is important for all sectors and can be described as a common issue. In the new techniques learned by the applications, professionals see an opportunity for treatment, which can also be the basis for working together. Thus, it can be said that interprofessional cooperation is present in the city, which is a strong basis for building interdisciplinary professionalism. However, the social and educational fields were basically involved in the programs, so we cannot yet talk about fully promoting interdisciplinary cooperation at the city level.

Based on our experience we introduce the results, difficulties and challenges we have faced in the establishment and operation of a service that started in 2018. Our work is intended as a feedback link to train social helpers in kindergarten and school, reflecting from practice to theory, hoping to contribute to the complex functioning of the so-called 'theory' and 'practice'.

Beszélgetés a Szociális Munka Napja alkalmából díjazott szakemberekkel, Setét Jenővel és Meleg Sándorral szociális munkáról, szociálpolitikáról, fejlesztésekről és programokról, szakmáról és szakmai identitásról

Ifjúsági munkások szakmai életútját bemutató interjúsorozatunk harmadik darabja Katona Máriával készült, aki Békéscsabán és Debrecenben dolgozott ifjúsági munkásként. Közművelődési diplomával lépett a szakmába 1980-ban. Első két munkahelyén KISZ-klubot vezetett, bár ő maga már a főiskolán kilépett a Kommunista Ifjúsági Szövetségből. A Kossuth Egyetem Közművelődési Titkárságán végzett munkájából már nem a művelődésszervezést, hanem a közösségek támogatását látja elsődlegesnek. Már első munkahelyén kapcsolatba lépett a közösségszervezők körével. Élete két szakaszában is formálója volt az ifjúságpolitikának. Előbb a rendszerváltást megelőző években, amikor a megyei tanács ifjúsági osztálya két munkatársa egyikeként részese volt az ifjúsággal kapcsolatos állami szerepek keresésének, megyei nemzetközi kapcsolatok megteremtésének. Másodszor pedig 2000–2013 között, amikor az Észak-alföldi Regionális Ifjúsági Szolgáltató Iroda vezetőjeként a Regionális Ifjúsági Tanács titkáraként is dolgozott, javaslattevői és megvalósítói feladatkörökkel. Mindkét esetben központi költségvetési forrás adott játékteret. Katona Máriának szerepe volt abban, hogy a régióban egyedi kezdeményezések is megvalósultak. Amikor 2013-ban felszámolták a regionális ifjúsági szolgáltató irodákat, a Nemzeti Művelődési Intézet megyei módszertani munkatársa lett. A segítő szakmák indulása idején tagja volt a humán szolgáltatások megteremtésén dolgozó körnek, de soha nem gondolta, hogy a szociális munkára cserélné az ifjúsági munkát.
