The importance of social rehabilitation as an effective tool for activation for the parent’s perspective
Views:145If the situation arises when a child's proper upbringing and favourable development are at risk and parents cannot or are not able to solve this situation by themselves, the child is, according to act on social and legal protection of children, considered as endangered (Act No. 359/2009 Coll., on social and legal protection of children).
It is not easy to determine the degree of risk and it is even harder to choose the suitable support service and involve parents, considering the degree of risk. A true professional makes the family realize that the problem solution is connected with responsibility and the quality care for children (Gjuričová, Š., Kubička, J., 2003).
During the last five years, several new sorts of support services have been created in order to attempt to provide support tailored to the needs of the aforementioned families (Act. No. 108/2006 Coll., on social services).
Social rehabilitation is an example of such auxiliary service. It emphasizes the bond between parents and children and brings out family ties in general (Act. No. 108/2006 Coll., on social services).
The acceptance of social rehabilitation is very difficult for every family. With regard to psychology, families must deal with complicated stressful situations (Bob, P., Vymětal, J., 2005).
Centre for children of South Bohemian region in Strakonice has been performing social and legal protection for children since 2006. The main target of the Centre for children is mutual communication with families, cooperation and rational problem solution. This would be barely possible without the participation of the family, or at least one of its members.
Mutual cooperation, empathy, thoughtfulness, helpfulness, sympathy and patience are essential for social work. In order to solve problems efficiently, it is also convenient to know the viewpoint of the family in relation to the provided service. The opinion of the family can reveal many issues.
Martin Karas is the director of the Centre for children, which focuses on active involvement of family in social rehabilitation. He highlights one of several problems - insufficient and unsystematic support of family from institutions in the process. Insufficient support may prevent children’s return to their biological family in time. In his studies he focuses on an important issue – the active participation of the family in problem solving.
The aim of this article is to point out that active cooperation with family, especially the opinion of family, is an important criterion of the quality of the partnership. The article contains interviews with participants and former participants of social rehabilitation; several conclusions were made based on these interviews. -
Tapasztalati tanulási módszerek helye és szerepe a szociális képzésekben
Views:437The present study seeks the place and role of experiential learning methods in social trainings – primarily BA in social work and BA in social pedagogy. The provoking sentence is in the writings of Dominelli (1997), who states that those who only participate in trainings become less innovative thinkers, rather they become professionals who can only solve practical problems.
The author of the present study is committed to the use of training and experiential learning methods. The experience of a teacher / trainer in social work and social pedagogy in BA courses confirms that this method is what can form a bridge between theory and practice and is able to integrate the two approaches. With my writing I support that the method – by its framework, its methods based on experiential learning and the personality of the trainer – leads to the modern and innovative social expertise that characterizes the reflective social professional. -
A szociális intézmények szolgáltatási/ellátási nehézségei, belső megoldási mechanizmusai és szükségletei – egy szakmatámogatási- és fejlesztési problématérkép alapvonalai
Views:885The focus of the study is on the current difficulties and challenges that social care institutions face in their daily operations, how they can respond to them within their internal resources, mechanisms and capacities, and what concrete, tangible needs and demands emerge in terms of possible directions, forms and interventions for external professional support and development. The findings provide the basis for developing a map of general and specific problems. The empirical study for these analytical purposes is based on a database of online questionnaires completed by a group of experts in social care institutions in two counties (Győr-Moson-Sopron and Veszprém) in November and December 2022. 201 analysable personal questionnaires are included in the sample, representing 166 social care service sites in the study area. Three main problems stand out in terms of their importance among the factors analysed. The main problem of the social care system is the complex challenge of low wages. Administrative burdens rank second in the rating of operational difficulties, and the third key factor is the psycho-mental condition of the workforce.

A szociális munka etika oktatása
Views:491How does the teaching of ethics appear in the education of social work and is this enough? I would like to answer to these questions in this article. In my thesis I tried to approach the topic from several aspects. On the one hand, I prepared questionnaires for bachelor students participating in various social work trainings. On the other hand I interviewed students, entrants and tutors. Finally, I reviewed the curriculums of these trainings, searching for subjects, which name refers that the subject includes aspects of social work ethics.
Why is this topic so important? That is because social work is a profession of human rights, which not only aims to get people to respect rights but to guarantee their implementation and realization. Indeed, the task is to develop and protect these fundamental human rights, too. However, this is only possible if the social workers are aware of the Code of Ethics and the professional values, as essential parts of professional competences.
The research concluded that the ethics education in universities and colleges is not structured and focused enough and still there are some social work students and professionals who do not know the Code of Ethics, did not hear about the Association of Social Work Ethics. Consequently, they may have difficulties to solve pivotal problems, and recognize dilemmas in the field of ethics.

Ebben valószínűleg mindannyian egyetértünk, ahogy a szakirodalomban is olvasható „…a szociális munkában minden döntés tartalmaz etikai aspektusokat” (Loewenberg, Dolgoff 1988a: 181). Mégis, annak ellenére, hogy a szociális munkának szerves része a szakmai etika – vagy annak kellene lennie –, igen kevés tanulmány található ebben a témában a hazai szakirodalomban. Hogyan lehetséges az, hogy úgy kell kutatni, vadászni a kapcsolódó olvasmányokat? Pedig szükség lenne szakirodalomra, hiszen a „hatékony gyakorlat feltétele a dilemmákhoz való tudatos viszonyulás” (Andok, Tímár 2002: 88). Hogyan jelenik meg az etika oktatása a képzésben és ez mennyire elegendő? Erre a kérdésfeltevésre épül ez az írás. -
Reflections on six decades of professional social work fundamental principles for social workers
Views:240What principles have I found to exist over my six decades of social work that are central to the profession and are still applicable in today’s complex world? What has guided social work in its quest to address the myriad, ever changing and most difficult problems facing our societies irrespective of the continent or country? In my professional journey these practice guides can be synthesized into 13 basic principles that can serve as a strong foundation and are still highly useful today. In my over 55 years as a professional social worker, studying the individuals and writers who were seminal to the profession to those who emerged during the mid-20th century, certain principles emerged. These principles arose from both practice and academic areas and have provided grounding and guidance that has led to the successful delivery of social work irrespective of the decade or location.

Kutassunk együtt – A kutatási gyakorlat és a kutatótáborok szerepe a szociális munka oktatásában
Views:247Rethinking the relation of theory and practice is in the focus nowadays regarding social studies. Define the ideal rate of practice in study programs is not easy, just as to determine those competencies and knowledge that able to reply to the differing needs of the labor market. The need-to-know basis which defines directly the tools of a practicing social worker is changing steadily by the societal- and economic transformation. Accordingly to this phenomenon, raise awareness relating to the learning process, innovative tools for both informal and formal (extra-)curricular trainings have become important features of education. In this learning environment, students are able to focus on better knowledge, understanding, and traceability of their individual growth. Moreover, innovative methods create an opportunity to develop values, attitudes, and professionalism. Organizing and implementing research-camps, where students can deepen their knowledge of social research methods, is perfectly fits this approach. We have to see that learning is not an activity we can define precisely, rather something complex, strongly determined by the situation, as different people learn differently, indeed, the same person has different ways to get the knowledge in different situations. This is particularly true for research-camps where the specific learning environment has catalyzing role in transforming procedural knowledge. One advantage of procedural knowledge is that it can involve more senses, such as hands-on experience, practice at solving problems, understanding of the limitations of a specific solution, etc. Camping is an outstanding and effective stage in social learning as well. Experience as usable knowledge in subsequent situations may remain by reflecting on solving problems and experiences. (Gruber & Garabás, 2018) In the practice of the Department of Community and Social Studies (University of Pécs) students participate in research planning and implementing from the setting of targets through data collection and processing till publishing results. Studied phenomenons, processes, and correlations are often the proofs of the complexity of society for those with significantly different socio-economic backgrounds. The community-shaping effect is another crucial aspect in the integration of research-camps into our curriculum. The decreasing number of full-time students and the fact that most of them are employees (self-supporters) affect the quantity and the quality of community activities. Research-camps, besides deepening and exploiting knowledge, create opportunities for collaboration and savoring mutual experiences.

Views:346External analysts often characterize our region (Eastern Europe or Central-Eastern Europe) as a whole. Such approaches can be found not only in economic and political issues, but also in social terms. However, local experts, who are familiar with the specifics of these countries, are aware of the nuances and differences that have become specific to a certain country. This paper aims to reveal the historical and social context of social work in Romania, which determines the current position and role of the profession. It is obvious that the profession has made a long course of development over the last three decades since it has been virtually reborn, but as the final part of the paper emphasizes, many organizational problems still need to be resolved.

Az Országos Rabbiképző – Zsidó Egyetem: Az 1877-ben alapított Rabbiképző Intézettől a Zsidó Egyetem Szociális Munkás képzéséig
Views:279The Jewish Theological Seminary, founded in 1877, aimed to combine modern scholarship with Jewish religious traditions. However, the golden age of the Institution and its world fame followed the cruel destruction of the Holocaust. Then, for forty years, the communist dictatorship made life difficult in the Jewish community. Despite the persecutions, the Jewish Holocaust survivors, along with the second and third generations, quickly revived the traditions from the 1990s and the Jewish community became an active, organized community again. One sign of this is that the Rabbinical Seminary has become a university, the Jewish Theological Seminary – University of Jewish Studies. Part of this process is that training for social workers began in 1995. The study is a historical outline of the institution that has been operating continuously in Budapest for 150 years. How and why was it created? How do they find their place and what answers do they give to social problems today? It reviews the professional values and principles of social worker training and tries to reflect the special Jewish features of the University.

Tapolcai szervezetek és szakembereik fejlődési lehetőségei az interprofesszionális kooperációban
Views:443In the period between 2018 and 2020, two organizations in the city of Tapolca also launched programs aimed at the prevention of mental health and prevention of addictions. In the present study, the focus is on the collaborations that have taken place on the programs and on the motivation of the professionals in terms of getting involved in the programs. The basic question is what effect the established collaborations will have on social professionals and the services they provide in the future. The evaluation of the results has shown that responding to the social problems present is important for all sectors and can be described as a common issue. In the new techniques learned by the applications, professionals see an opportunity for treatment, which can also be the basis for working together. Thus, it can be said that interprofessional cooperation is present in the city, which is a strong basis for building interdisciplinary professionalism. However, the social and educational fields were basically involved in the programs, so we cannot yet talk about fully promoting interdisciplinary cooperation at the city level.

Irénke útja - Esettanulmány
Views:421This study is the story of Irénke who never was in a really harmonic relationship with her mother and in hope for a better life she ran into a bad marriage. She gave life to two baby boys but because of the lifestyle of her husband she had to run again. He bullied her constantly. She sticked to his sons like a tiger and tried to stay strong but she had to solve all problems alone. She felt lost so many times and at the end she became depressed. She tried to commit suicide but she wanted to do something against her disease. She sarted to work at an institution that 0helps people with reduced capacity to work and patricipated in a self-knwoledge training as well. Perhaps it was not accidental. She started the traingin lately because she collapsed mentally and was treated in psychiatry. When she joined into the work she was broken, silent and uninterested.
Then something magical hapend. Her mentor noticed her condition and wanted to help her. Not only her mentor stood up for her but the whole team. They understood Irénke, who never felt lonely anymore. She was not alone with her problems. Because of this „magic” Irénke became more active in the lessons, she felt better and started to love her life. She never felt this way before during her life. She started to bulid her self-confidence and she felt safe in her team.
Irénke told her story and problems to her mentor who tried to help her in any way. Specialists started to support Irénke and they set up a plan. They examined all options and chose what’s the best for Irénke. Finally they carried through their plan.This study is about this whole process. It tells us how got Irénke through the most difficult part of her life with the help of her mentor and friends. The study shows us the mentor’s whole work. It presents what did she to help Irénke. We also can see Irénke’s reactions. She stood up from the floor and became a balanced, happy and peaceful woman. We can see the process how she get from the depression to a happy and balanced life. She found her way and purpose in life. Also Irénke’s mentor became a better person. She developed together with Irénke and also became a more confident person. This study tells us their story and journey to a better life.

Az egyházi térnyerés dilemmái a szociális ágazatban
Views:1330The ecclesiastical takeover of the public services sector has been particularly strong over the last ten years. This change in the structure of the public sector raises several problems and dilemmas which are rarely discussed (openly) in professional circles. The expansion of churches has not come about organically but is the result of government measures. It is primarily ideological rather than professional factors that are at play, and in many areas, this is leading the care system in a questionable professional direction. This paper discusses the historical background to the emergence of the social care system, the differences in the way the domestic care system is funded depending on the type of provider, the pro-church restructuring of the service sector and the professional and ethical dilemmas of church-based service delivery.

Ez nem semmi! A történetalapú foglalkozások alkalmazása a szociális munkában
Views:473The study focuses on the socialized reading experience, referred to as story based method, by the author, who also recommends it as a tool for group or communal social work. In this nature, it can be clearly distinguished from the art or bibliotherapeutical directions, since only the aid is similar (the story, the reading and the discussion), but the framework of processing, regulating, depth and purpose is different. Hence, experiencing the process will become different for the participants and an other kind of involvement is required from them. Besides, the experience of story based method does not exclude motivation for deeper self-understanding and it could open barriers to involve in a therapeutic procedure.
The introduction of the story based method is done through the work of Janne Teller. The short story was published in Denmark in 2000. The readers and professionals' attention was immediately drawn that Teller's book was initially prohibited, scandalous and later on awarded by the Ministry of Culture to be the Best Children's book. Also it was compulsory to read. The text of the book is easily understandable, however the problems described have a deeper meaning to them, therefore, it is suitable for analysis in several groups with dissimilar sociocultural backgrounds after the adequate revision.

A tranzitív változások integratív megközelítése a gerontológia kulcskoncepciói mentén
Views:1526This study connecting to the research for inquiry of the hazard about the demographical changes in the society, put the question, that the arriving the big demographical wave of the generation who was born between 1946 and 1964 particularly during the „Ratkó period” of the fifties to the old age, which kind of difficulties comes up in the care system for the older people because of the demographical hazards. According to the starting point of our hypothesis the adverse health conditions and psychosocial problems underlines the importance of the prevention, while the programmes of the primer prevention in the Hungarian care system proves insufficient, and the secondary prevention is unsettled. In the focus of our research programme are the theoretical, methodological questions, and questions about the possibilities of the development of the social service system for the secondary prevention on the field of the elder care. Considering the complexity of this subject, in this study we try to take out of the topic of theoretical background of the transitive changes of aging in scope of „desk-based research” for develop a new conceptual framework of the transitive changes in integrative approach based on key-concepts on modern gerontology.

Mentális zavarral, hajléktalanságban élő személyek segítése - a BMSZKI gyakorlatának rövid bemutatása
Views:441Persons living with mental disorders and homelessness belong to a particularly vulnerable client group. The stigma associated with mental illness reinforces the stigmatization of homelessness. If someone receives a psychiatric diagnosis, society treats it as a label and categorizes the person. Fear of being labeled undermines the motivation of people with mental disorders to seek help. A good example of this is the case of people living in homelessness and with mental disorders, who do not want to take on another stigma in addition to the stigma of homelessness and therefore do not use help or services in connection with their mental problems. Another difficulty is the problem of accessibility to services. The F3 report on the 2020 homeless data collection "After the criminal law - before the pandemic" Péter Győri's summary work Becoming homeless - services - perspectives shows that 29% of the respondents were receiving psychiatric treatment. The misconception that "homeless people are mentally ill, psychiatric patients" can be found in the work of Péter Győri (Győri, 2020). At the same time, we know that not all people with mental disorders appear in the care system, so there may be more than 29% of people who are affected by the problem. The Budapest Methodological Social Center and Institutions (BMSZKI) has developed a complex rehabilitation service for people living in homelessness and with mental disorders in cooperation with the Awakenings Foundation. The purpose of this paper is to present this practice.

Párkapcsolati elégedettség segítő hivatású szakemberek körében: értékek, elvárások és kihívások a hallgatók szemszögéből
Views:18The present study aims to examine relationship satisfaction, support preferences, and partner-selection attitudes among students preparing for helping professions, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of balancing professional identity and private life. A total of 138 students completed the questionnaire, which assessed demographic characteristics, relationship status, and individual preferences. The results indicate that the most important relationship preferences include reliability, a shared vision for the future, and supportive involvement; most respondents seek a partner who contributes to the stability of the relationship on both emotional and practical levels. Overall, relationship satisfaction proved to be high within the sample: love, fulfilment of needs, and perceived relationship quality received positive evaluations in more than 80% of responses, while relationship regret appeared at a low rate. Sexual satisfaction and the presence of relationship problems showed greater variability, suggesting diversity in relational functioning. The students’ preference system emphasizes emotional security, honest communication, and value-based thinking, which reflects the empathetic and human-centred attitudes characteristic of the helping professions. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of relationship dynamics from the perspective of those entering helping fields.
