    The ground of our study is institutional research which refers to the University of Debrecen Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs. The respondents were second-year full-time students. Our aim was to reveal what features this faculty’s students have if we compare our data to nationwide or regional empirical findings.  Our empirical findings have pointed out the disadvantageous features of our students (lower rate of parents with a degree, higher rate of students from villages, etc.). These phenomena can be explained with the special social background of the training courses, the criteria of attendance, and the geographic location of the institution.

    Animal assistance used among university students is not unknown, numerous foreign examples prove its valid existence. The application aimed at university students appeared in the United States of America, but nowadays it is used in many countries around the world. The emergence of assistance dogs in higher education is related to the scientific interest aimed at discovering and measuring the causes of the positive effects experienced during the use of assistance animals. Simultaneously with the introduction of animal assistance training at the University of Debrecen Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs, the university student sensitization program began in 2021, within the framework of which students can meet the assistance dog serving on the university campus on a daily basis. The first university student sensitizer dog of the country has a multifaceted task, it not only performs tasks in the field of animal-assisted activity but also fulfills a socialization role with its presence, helping many to rethink their ideas about keeping animals. The study presents this socialization program.

    Bullying is a complicated issue that arises from intricate relationships between family members, peers, the school community, and culture. One of the key indicators of bullying is parental variables. Studies linking various parental factors to bullying behaviour or roles are scarce, particularly in Nigeria. Therefore, this study examined parental factors as predictors of in-school adolescents’ bullying behaviors in Kwara state, Nigeria. The population comprised 223, 893 in-school adolescents in Kwara State and a sample of 400 was drawn from this population across the State. The data were collected through the use of researchers’ designed scale. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistic. In the results, parental factors significantly predict in-school adolescents bullying perpetration and victimization. Based on the findings of the study appropriate recommendations were made.

  • ROMA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' IDEAS ON THE CHOICE OF PARTNERS:

    Finding the right partner can improve the individual’s financial situation, help him/her achieve his/her goals, and support his/her mental health. It may also have an impact on the integration of Roma partners into the majority of society. Roma young people studying in higher education may have different options of choosing a partner than their (Roma) lower-educated peers. The cost of further education is often the lack of early marriage, which is common in the traditional Roma community, while the benefit can be the development of a wider network of contacts by getting to know university colleagues. In our research, we examined the choice of a partner of a special group of Roma university students, the Roma college students concerning their ideas about this and their practical implementation. The study is based on the EVS (European Value Survey) questionnaire on relationships filled in by the respondents and structured life path interviews (N=186). Based on the survey, the college students included in the study did not consider the origin of their partner to be relevant, while in practice they preferred a similar partner related to the origin and education. The Roma college can also function as a field for choosing partners, and many of the students have chosen their partners from here. In Roma colleges, students are placed in a peer community that supports them through further education. Among their peers, they can even find a partner who is similar to them not only in his/her origin but also in his/her education.

  • FINANCIAL, SOCIAL AND SPORTING ASPECTS OF DEAF SPORTS WORLDWIDE

    There is a dynamic increase in the number of international sports competitions aimed at deaf athletes. More than 50 World and European championships are held every year in various sports disciplines. The participation and number of deaf athletes delegated to these sports competitions depend on the budget available to national sports federations (NSFs) of deaf athletes. Many times, NSFs have been forced to withdraw from participation in a competition owing to a lack of financial resources. In numerous countries, NSFs have to conduct online fundraising dedicated to their representatives’ involvement in sports competitions. The authors reviewed the source materials on the internet on financing the sport of the hearing impaired. No scientific articles covering the funding aspect of national sports federations in the world were found. The authors relied on financial documents provided by the NSF (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain) and on websites indicated by these federations. The aim of the article was to characterize selected national organizations gathering deaf athletes from Europe, Asia and Oceania, and North America in terms of the budget they had at their disposal in years 2013–2017, the number of athletes associated in the NSF, and the number of Olympic competitors and the country’s medal position during the 2013 and 2017 Deaflympics. An overview of NSF websites with reference to “annual reports”, “financial reports”, “financial statements”, “newsletter”, “national teams of”, “number of athletes of”, demonstrated numerous deficiencies in the transparent presentation of the financial situation of NSFs. The content of NSF activity reports also provides limited information on the number of athletes and clubs associated in these federations. The article constitutes an introduction to a discussion on the financing aspects and development of deaf people’s sport worldwide.

  • THE ROLE OF THE FAMILY IN EMPLOYMENT AMONG UNDERGRADUATES

    The role of the family as the arena for primary socialization is significant throughout our lives. The cultural capital, parental role models, and relationship with siblings all have a tremendous impact on academic and non-academic achievement, social networking, intra- and intergenerational embeddedness, and employment during studies. However, a change in family structure can negatively affect a child’s development, decrease his or her academic and non-academic achievement (Engler, 2016), and also causes a higher prevalence of health risk behaviours (Kovács and Nagy, 2017). In addition, due to the lower level of financial capital provided by the family, young people who have grown up in a non-intact family structure are often forced to work during their university or even high school studies to ensure their self-preservation. In our research, we examined the attitudes of the students studying at the University of Debrecen towards family and work in the light of the family structure, covering childhood storytelling experiences (BEST 2020). In addition to demographic issues, changes in family structure, childhood storytelling habits, and work-related attitudes were examined (N=159). 25.6% of the students’ parents are divorced, 24.3% grew up with their mother. 86.5% of the parents read tales in childhood, mostly (75%) every day, typically mothers. No significant difference could have been detected in childhood storytelling experiences based on family structure (p=0.322). Although the ratio of employment is higher among children of divorced parents, a significant difference is found at the beginning of employment. Based on the results, parents try to support university studies at least partly, but they are unlikely able to provide other resources that could force students to work. Based on our results, it can be stated that the role of the family in the early employment of young people is also significant, and the change in the family structure increases the proportion of employment besides university studies, which is mainly due to the family's financial situation.

  • THE APPEARANCE OF MASSAGE AS A SERVICE CATEGORY IN THE OFFER OF HOTELS IN THE NORTHERN GREAT PLAIN

    Background: Massage is one of the main categories of wellness tourism and is one of the most popular, so it is no accident that it is included in the hotel offerings. Research proves the effectiveness of massage and its benefits in the treatment of various injuries, diseases, reduction of pain, muscle tension, and anxiety. Not only does it have a positive effect on health, but it plays an important role in relaxation, so it is no coincidence that it is one of the most popular wellness services. Hotel guests include massage as an important factor in choosing a destination. Aims: Because of the importance of tourism in the Northern Great Plain, our research looked at the role that massage services play in the supply of elements in the region's 3-5 star hotels. We surveyed 50 hotels (18 three-star, 31 four-star, 1 five-star) through a questionnaire and website analysis for their services and offerings. Results: Our results showed that the majority of the examined hotels have massage services, although to varying degrees. The most common types of massage are refreshing, vitalizing massage, foot massage, Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage, and relaxing, stress-relieving massage, but there are also many special types of massage. Conclusion: The conclusion of our research is that experience, pampering, and health consciousness appears not only in the factors influencing people's choice of the resort but also in the offerings of hotels.

  • EXPERIENCES AND SUPPORT NEEDS OF CHILDREN WITH BROTHER OR SISTER WITH DISABILITY

    There are many children with special needs whose siblings play an important role in their lives for a longer time than other family members. Longer life expectancy and the deepening of disabilities bring along a higher need of being taken care of. When the parents grow older it is often the siblings who become the caretakers. Meyer & Vadasy (2007) found that if siblings of children with SEN get proper support and information while growing up, the well-being of siblings with special needs also increases. Relationship with a sibling with special needs influences development of adaptability and self-esteem, this influence can be positive or negative (Burke, 2008). The parents of the children with SEN have many ways to receive information or help from the family – doctors, therapists, consultants, teachers, books, etc. The siblings in their turn usually get their information from the parents. (Conway & Meyer, 2008) Family members of different ages need different information. Therefore, there should be research on what kind of experiences do the siblings of the disabled child need, how their needs and well-being are guaranteed, and what kind of support they need. The aim of this study is to describe the experiences of brothers and sisters with siblings with special needs, try to understand their need for support, and find out the need for support groups and camps.

  • PARENTAL FACTORS INFLUENCING SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS OF PUPILS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, KWARA STATE

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate how parental influences affected students' academic performance in the Kwara State capital of Ilorin. Researchers have expressed worry over students' low academic performance in school, and it is commonly acknowledged that for students to fully benefit from their education, their parents must give them their entire support. The research was a survey. All primary school teachers in the city of Ilorin made up the study's population, and a mixed method approach was used on a sample of 215 respondents (of whom 200 completed questionnaires and 15 participated in interviews). Simple random and selective sampling methods were used to choose the sample. The data was gathered via a survey called the "Parental Factors Influence School Achievements of Children Questionnaire" (PFISAPQ).  The factors taken into account were gender, age, educational background, and number of years of teaching experience. Demographic information was expressed as a percentage, and the two null hypotheses were tested using the 2-way ANOVA statistical tool at the 0.05 level of significance. Mean and rank order analysis was used to analyze the research questions, and thematic analysis was then used to analyze the subsequent questions raised to support the main research questions. The results showed that, among other things, parental involvement, parental oversight, parental involvement in extracurricular activities, parental academic background, parental interest in education, and parent-child relationships are the primary factors positively affecting children's academic success. Also, significant differences existed in the parental factors influencing school achievements of pupils as expressed by primary school teachers based on gender, age, educational qualification, and years of teaching experience. It was recommended that parents should be encouraged to improve their involvement in children’s academic activities by supporting them and being actively involved in encouraging pupils to learn and achieve maximally in school.

  • INVESTIGATION OF DEMAND AND SUPPLY ELEMENTS OF LEISURE SPORTS IN THE HEALTH TOURISM OF NORTHERN GREAT PLAIN REGION

    Nowadays, leisure and recreational trends justify the significant appearance of health-conscious consumers, among whom the need for various recreational sports and fitness services is formulated during their holiday, to which the hotel offerings are adapted. The aim of our research was to analyze leisure sports offerings of hotels in the Northern Great Plain region (n = 39) and the development of hotel guests (n = 141) demand for leisure sports and fitness services. The results of our research confirmed, that 23.4% of the guests are influenced by the recreational- and 19.1% by the sports elements of the hotel offerings. 62.4% of those surveyed find it important to have the possibility for leisure activities during their stay, and 70.2% of them use these services during their stay. Music and dance forms of exercise, outdoor sports (cycling, hiking), and fitness room services have proven to be the most popular. The preference system of males and females differed, in which we could identify a significant difference: while females preferred yoga and the conditioning treadmill, males preferred the use of free weights.

  • THE EXPERIENCES OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN PRESCHOOLS IN THE LIGHT OF A KINDERGARTEN RESEARCH IN HAJDÚBÖSZÖRMÉNY

    The literature and research on physiotherapy in Hungary are not as complete as the research on physical education, so this article is also incomplete. Our research aimed to report on the experiences of physiotherapy sessions for preschool children within the physical education sector, as this area is less researched. Our research presents the experiences of children and their parents who have participated in pre-school physiotherapy in a sample of children attending the Good Shepherd Reformed Kindergarten in Hajdúböszörmény. The results are presented based on the analysis of a questionnaire filled in by 50 parents and an interview with the physiotherapy teacher who teaches in the kindergarten. The survey shows that 8% of parents of preschool children did not know that their child was attending such sessions, 92% of parents were informed, but 20% did not know how many development sessions their child was attending. The majority of parents follow up on their child's development, but consider the information provided by the teacher to be insufficient. The vast majority of parents were also aware of their child's diagnosis. Parents' opinions showed that they consider the existence of physiotherapy sessions important, as they consider it essential for the effective development of a growing organism. Parents also noted positive effects of physiotherapy sessions, such as improved posture, flexibility, reduced orthopaedic deformities, increased endurance, or improved dexterity and hand-foot coordination. Another important aspect, according to parents, is that these sessions are free of charge, take place during nursery school hours and they are playful. According to the physiotherapy teacher, the number of sessions is not sufficient to achieve optimal improvement, given that the vast majority of children only receive development in kindergarten. These results are useful and can be used in the training of kindergarten teachers or further training courses.

  • Nexus between Personal Factors and Practice of Self-Medication among Primary School Teachers in Oyo State, Nigeria

    The purpose of this study was to examine the nexus between personal factors and the practice of self-medication among primary school teachers in Oyo State. Five hundred participants constituted the study’s sample out of which only 476 were used after data administration. Both the independent and dependent variables were measured with validated instruments with 0.85 reliability co-efficient and the data obtained was analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) Statistical method. Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that there was a significant relationship between poverty and the practice of self-medication among primary school teachers (r= .823; p<0.05) as well as between illiteracy and the practice of self-medication among primary school teachers (r= .643; p<0.05). The implication of this showed that poverty and illiteracy level had significant impacts on the practice of self-medication among primary school teachers. In view of these findings, it was recommended that educational stakeholders should frequently organize seminars and workshops for primary school teachers, especially in rural areas on the dangers of self-medication.

  • INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL CARE ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS WITH PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT IN KWARA STATE

    The study examined the influence of parental care on the academic achievement of students with physical impairment in Kwara state. The study adopted a descriptive survey of a correlational type. All students with a physical impairment in Kwara State were the population of this study while 185 students with a physical impairment who were selected through snowball and purposive sampling techniques constituted a sample for this study. A researcher-designed instrument titled: “Influence of Parental Care on Academic Achievement Questionnaire” (IPCAAQ) was used to collect data from the respondents. The data collected were analysed using percentages for demography data and main research questions, Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPPC) statistical tool was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that the majority (87.6%) of the students with physical impairment experienced positive parental care and that more than half of the students with physical impaired have high and average levels of academic performance. A significant correlation between parental care and academic achievement of students with physical impairment in Kwara state. In addition, a significant relationship was found between the parental care and academic achievement of male and female students with physical impairment irrespective of their age group. Based on the finding, it was recommended that counsellors should intensify efforts on encouraging parents to show caring for their children with any form of disability in order for them to have good academic achievement.

  • COOPERATION VS. COMPETITION. APPROACHES ON THE INCLUSION OF CHILDREN WITH SEN

    Solving learning tasks, among students, is usually done in the context of an interaction based on competition or cooperation. Either of the two types of interaction - cooperation and competition - has different effects in terms of the students' mutual attitudes, the degree of involvement, and the degree of participation in the performance of school tasks and individual school performance. The success of the school inclusion of students with SEN implies the cooperation between all the factors involved in this process. Special education is a part of the Romanian education system and should support educational programs for pupils with SEN suitable for their harmonious development. We started in our research from the application of a questionnaire to which teachers from Bihor County responded. If, in the preceding article, this working instrument was applied to a number of 163 teachers from mass education, to mixed classes that had in their composition and children with special educational requirements, in this article we extract the data that we have collected from to a number of 63 teachers in special education. The questionnaire comprises a total of 46 items referring to the atmosphere of cooperation and competition and comprises two parts. The first part includes questions regarding seniority in work, educational grade, age, number of the group of students they work with, etc.

     

     

     

  • Challenges and Coping Strategies of Widows in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State

     Widowhood is embedded with a lot of challenges for women which requires strategies to cope with it. This study investigated the challenges and coping strategies of widows in the Ilorin metropolis. The population for this study consisted of selected widows in Ilorin, Kwara state. The sample consisted of fifty widows randomly selected. The instrument that was used for this study is a researcher-designed questionnaire tagged “Widow Practices Questionnaire (WPQ). In testing the hypotheses, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics were used to test the hypotheses generated for the study at a 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that the widows experience challenges such as endures psychosocial problems after their partner’s demise, endures problems of poor governmental support, experience negative pressure from the family of the demise among others. The coping strategies employed by widows are; widows never depend on the family’s provision to survive since their partner’s demise, embrace grants from religious bodies and government for survival, and cope with gifts and luxuries provided by non-governmental groups for survival among others. Also, there were significant differences in the challenges experienced and coping strategies employed by widows in the Ilorin metropolis based on age and job type; while there were no significant differences in the challenges experienced and coping strategies employed by widows based level of education. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that widows should be encouraged and supported by the government and religious bodies. Government and relevant stakeholders should endeavor to create measures and legislation that help protect the widows and preserve their rights as well as access to several benefits and the widows should be encouraged to meet counselors to disclose their problems, so that their challenges can be expertly addressed.

    The aim of the study is to highlight the attitude of the students (N=72) from Pedagogy of Primary and Preschool Education Program (pre-service teacher), from first and third years of study, related to how they want, as future teachers, to develop pupils’ learning skills in the inclusive classroom by adopting certain behavioral management of pupils with special needs. The working tool used is the Behavior and Instructional Management Scale, developed by Martin and Sass (2010). The comparative analysis of the results obtained according to the year of study captures the existence of statistically significant differences in the aspect of the management of the behavior in the classroom, both in traditional and inclusive classes, during the lessons, with higher averages for the pre-service teachers of 3rd year. Also, pre-service teachers from the 3rd year of study have a higher level of expectations for implementing the rules in school activities with pupils with special needs, compared to the pre-service teachers of the 1st year, which draws attention to the importance of pedagogical practical stage in primary school.

    Every university student in higher education is required to take part in Kuliah Kerja Nyata, what is a study service program, according to the curriculum in higher education in Indonesia. Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) was appeared in a decree from the Department of Higher Education for the first time in 1973 (Kisnawat, 2009). In this study we present the origin of Kuliah Kerja Nyata and its policies implemented in the university, a description of Kuliah Kerja Nyata appeared on the universities’s websites, such as the University of Gajah Mada and Bandung Institute of Technology's website, and the benefits of its implementation for the stakeholders. This publication aims to review community service programs and promote community service in higher education. We present a synthetic literature review related to student community service. This publication offer how the Kuliah Kerja Nyata program has been effectively implemented in indonesian universities for students and lecturers.

    In the ever-increasing competition between the tourist destinations, the rethinking of the primary and secondary attraction factors (Bácsné et. al., 2018), their re-planning, supplementation, and development are indispensable. This is also true for Hungary and the Northern Great Plain region, where the availability of therapeutic and thermal water is a priority factor (Müller & Könyves, 2006; Müller & Kórik 2009; Michalkó & Rácz 2011;  Löwei 2017). The further development towards accessible tourism, even for a long-standing, well-established destination in health tourism is to be considered, in order service providers not only could strengthen their existing position but also open up to new markets and consumer groups (Mosonyi et. al. 2013, Lengyel 2015).  The understanding and implementation of strategies for new consumer groups include the product and service evaluation based on individual leisure constraints.

    The current study highlights the attitude of students toward the use of film sequences, as educational resources used in the course of Psychopedagogy of people with intellectual disabilities, in the online learning environment. The participants in the study were students (N = 28) in the 2nd year, who follow the Special Psycho-pedagogy study program. The research method was a questionnaire-based survey. The working tool contains 23 questions, which were developed by the authors for this research. In the introductory part, in addition to the synthesis of the specialized literature, we briefly presented the aspects related to the management of the university course, in a pandemic context, by presenting the ways in which the film sequences were used to achieve the objectives of the discipline. The results of the descriptive study show that students show a positive attitude towards the use of film sequences in teaching, learning, and final assessment activities. Thus, the students consider that the film sequences used in the course activities facilitate the understanding of the theoretical information from the course support, about the particularities in the development of people with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, the film sequences used for assessing knowledge in the final exam took students out of their comfort zone of passively taking the theoretical information and giving an answer during the online assessment tests. The research findings highlight the practical implications and future directions of research to ensure good management of course activities in the online learning environment.

    In our paper, those international processes are studied which determine the role and effectiveness of public education in the international and Hungarian context. We try to examine what globalization processes the school fits into; what positive or negative confirmation the interventions cause in the education system. In the Hungarian situation besides the segregation and integration, the selectivity of the education system can be also seen and is also shown in the study. The paradigm shifts in public education, the role of the inclusive school are presented through the Hungarian integration efforts. To sum up, an implemented integration program is also introduced where the experts’ efforts are put in the center of the topic.

    In September 2010, by the introduction of the educational reform in Serbia, namely the introduction of inclusion, the number of children from disadvantaged backgrounds and multiple disadvantaged backgrounds has significantly increased. From September 2013, the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Education in Hungarian Language, Subotica and University of Szeged, Gyula Juhász Faculty of Education, Institute of Adult Education worked out a program, in which the students of these two Universities participated as mentors in the compensatory education of disadvantaged children. The purpose of the present study is to introduce the structure of the Student Mentoring Program that serves as an excellent example for other schools. According to in-service teachers, one of the long-term positive outcomes of the mentoring program is the development of the social competencies of disadvantaged children.

    The essence of man is movement. It is true that the need for exercise varies at different age stages, but movement and its developmental role and positive impact accompany us throughout our lives. Movement development determines the development of the abilities of healthy and disabled children, which is manifested in the improvement of not only motor but also cognitive abilities. In our article, we present the theoretical foundations of movement development and development by analyzing secondary literature. We highlight and present the methodological features related to movement development that can be used in the field of special education, which can help children with special needs or disabilities to overcome their ability disadvantages.

  • Challenges of Guidance and Counselling University Students During “Practicum” Exercise

    Practicum is a platform designed for counsellors-in-training to assist them to become full professional counsellors. Practicum exercise is one of the major processes for gaining mastery of key concepts in counselling. The detached between theory and practice is a major challenge. This research, therefore focused on the challenges of guidance and counselling students in University of Ilorin during practicum. The descriptive study was adopted in this study. The researcher employed the use of simple random technique to select 220 undergraduate students in the Department of Counsellor Education University of Ilorin. The developed questionnaire was titled “Challenges of Practicum Exercise Questionnaire (CPEQ)”. This was adopted to gather information from the respondents. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.70.  The demographic data were analyzed using percentages. Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The obtained result showed that lack of adequate facilities for practicum exercise, inadequate mastery of counselling skills and inability to synthesize concepts during presentation are the major challenges. All the hypotheses were accepted. Based on these findings, it was recommended that students in training should constantly engage in micro counselling in the laboratory, this will assist them to gain mastery of counselling procedures and thereby overcome challenges on the field.
