  • UNVEILING INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL STUDENTS’ SOCIAL ADAPTATION IN HUNGARY

       International students who chose Hungary as their study destination must adapt to Hungary’s society. Knowing the social adaptation of international students, especially doctoral students, gave me another perspective on social adaptation in higher education. The study aimed to uncover the social adaptation of international students in Hungary. And to understand how international students adapted to society in Hungary. This study method is qualitative research design, and the instrument of the study was the semi-structured interview. The study also presents descriptive statistics on demographic data. In our sample, there were seven international students who were from Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, and Iraq. interview and demographic data. The language of the interview was English. This study identified eleven categories in the students’ adaptation. They were personality, the first visited place, the first friend, adaptation types, ways to make acquaintances, time adjustment, challenges in social adaptation, factors in social adaptation, setting social adaptation, self-reflection, and unfamiliar activities or new habits.

  • COMPARATIVE MIND MAPPING OF EXPECTATION ON INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN HUNGARY: IS IT BEYOND EXPECTATION?

    The student expectation in university is one of the crucial issues a university must address. The anticipation of students had a connection with students' satisfaction and engagement in higher education. This study was qualitative research, specifically in mind mapping analysis. The instrument was two forms of mind mapping by students (before and after coming to Hungary). This study’s participants were nine international students who currently study in Hungary. It was found that international students' mind mapping, type of mind mapping, and outline of general mind mapping of students’ expectations had similarities and differences.

    Nowadays teaching children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is at the centre of attention. However, the field is really new in language pedagogy and, due to the students’ different abilities, a common methodology has yet to be developed. As a result, teachers’ creativity plays an even more important role, since they rely heavily on their own teaching experience. We will dive deeper into this topic in our two papers built upon each other, both dealing with the issues of teaching a second language to school-aged children with SEN. This present paper is about teaching German students with SEN at a Hungarian and an international level. Our research involves an international overview of several European countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Romania, Poland, Russia, Estonia, and Italy). We contacted specific institutions in those countries and asked for their experience in teaching a second language to children with SEN. It also includes the language learning characteristics of children with SEN as well as the Hungarian rules governing their language teaching.

    The Special Treatment Journal was launched in 2014 to provide a platform for national and international publications on children/students/persons with special educational needs, learning, and behavioral difficulties and talents. Today, the 'Special Treatment' is one of the respected journals on the national and international academic lists (as evidenced by the publication of nearly 400 papers in recent years by 313 major national and international authors). In this paper, we would like to express thanks and gratitude to all those who have contributed to the publication and survival of the journal over such a long period.

    In our paper, those international processes are studied which determine the role and effectiveness of public education in the international and Hungarian context. We try to examine what globalization processes the school fits into; what positive or negative confirmation the interventions cause in the education system. In the Hungarian situation besides the segregation and integration, the selectivity of the education system can be also seen and is also shown in the study. The paradigm shifts in public education, the role of the inclusive school are presented through the Hungarian integration efforts. To sum up, an implemented integration program is also introduced where the experts’ efforts are put in the center of the topic.

    The spread of international companies in Hungary and the employment of Hungarian workers abroad have made it possible for foreign practices to increasingly appear in every field of the organizations’ functions. As organizations face continuous challenges all over the world, the range of solutions developed and used to tackle these challenges broadens continually. This paper describes the practice of a Hungarian subsidiary owned by a German parent company towards people with disabilities and those whose work capacity has changed. These activities are in connection with Human Resources, Communication, and more generally the organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In the paper, the specific practice of the company, focusing on the complexity of new issues is described.

    Social sensitization created in an organized form can be an extremely powerful tool for society to become more accepting of different disabilities, and all of these can also support the more effective social integration of people with disabilities. Rejection or distancing can mostly be the result of a lack of information, so if society gets more insight and information about all this, a higher degree of acceptance can be assumed. In recent decades, the number of programs and events that set this goal has increased spectacularly. Based on the conclusions of international attitude surveys, it can be formulated as an essential variable the quality and quantity of information the respondent has about the given group, whether there is a person with a disability in his microenvironment, whether he has already established an interaction with them, and also the impulses received from the immediate environment, the family values can be an influencing factor. The foreign research on the subject also points out that attitude formation started at an early age can be really effective, and that the impulses received in institutional education can largely determine the attitude of students towards their peers with disabilities. After summarizing the international and domestic attitude research, an analysis of sensitization programs available in Hungary within the framework of institutional education, which may be suitable for shaping attitudes towards disability, was carried out with the help of a system of criteria compiled along these lines. The aspects of the analysis include how many types of disabilities are included, which age group the program is suitable for, with what intensity and how many times participation is possible, the nature of the knowledge transfer, and whether it is possible to come into contact with a disabled person, thus giving the opportunity to gather personal experience. The aim of the analysis is to compare the available programs with the results of foreign attitude surveys to identify the most optimal and widely applicable sensitization programs.

  • INTERNATIONALISATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN HUNGARY

    The most important aim of this study is to give a brief overview on the internationalisation of the Hungarian higher education system. The European policies and programmes that are significant in the internationalisation of Hungarian higher education will be explained herein. The national agency for internationalisation and its programmes with a special emphasis on its flagship programme, the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship programme will be described. With the help of statistical databases from the Education Office, and Tempus Public Foundation (TPF), significant trends will be analysed based on the most updated data in the field of incoming and outgoing student mobility. We will also use the Hungarian subsample (N= 7547) form the Eurostudent VII database, and discuss study mobility experiences of both domestic and international students from several aspects; demographics, transition and access, types and modes of study and socio-economic background. We will also provide international comparison from some aspects. Our findings confirm the results about the unbalanced nature of inbound and outbound mobility and the existing differences in the field of access.

  • STUDENT’S ATTITUDES TOWARDS CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY

    Several studies have shown that integrated education has advantages in students’ social development and accepted attitude development (Meyer, Park, Grenot-Scheyer, Schwartz & Harry, 1998).  The studies about the integrated education had been traced for several decades, our research is based on the CATCH (Chedoke-McMaster Attitudes Towards Children with Handicaps Scale) questionnaire (Rosenbaum, 1985) which instrument had been used in several international studies as well (Tirosh, 1997; Vignes, 2008; Godeau 2010; Bosseart, 2011; De Laat, 2013, Schwab, 2017). Our major aim is to map the adolescent youth, their attitudes towards children with special treatment. The questionnaire was based on the three-component model of attitudes proposed by Triandis (1971). This 36-item, the self-administered scale was primarily paper-based, but our adaptation is placed on the online form. The participants of the study were 7th-grade students (N=99) The overall reliability of the test was satisfactory (Cronbach-α= 0,856). In the content analysis, we found two items that were significantly negative and four items which were not significant, those leaving the KMO= 0,809 (KMO>6), therefore suitable for factor analysis. The results show that, however in our sample, these three-component factors aren’t so clear, the test is reliable. There are some subtests that call for a revision, and we will need further researches to develop our assessment tool to make it more reliable and valid.
