  • RECRUITMENT AND FUTURE ORIENTATION OF DISADVANTEGED CHILDREN

    In Hungary, many children live in state care. In order to curb its social reproduction, it is important to see recruitment: Who are they? Where and why did they get into state care? We have to deal with the future vision, motivation, self-efficacy, cause-attribution, social integration of young people, and their ideas about them. The aim of our research is to explore the differences in the future orientation of disadvantaged young people living in orphanages and families, which were measurable by analyzing their study average, by using a vision questionnaire and a self-report questionnaire to reveal family background, and by using the Tenessee self-image scale. The study involved 60 children and young adults living in an orphanage and 60 children and young adults living in a family. Both groups consist of young people aged between 15 and 20, born between 1999 and 2004. The aim of the study was to compare the future orientation of the disadvantaged children living in an orphanage with the also disadvantaged children attending Arany János Talent Care Program but living in a family, and also to identify the differences or similarities between them. The statistical analysis found that there was a positive correlation between the vision questionnaire and the background questionnaire. Most of the questions in the two questionnaires are related.

  • THE EXAMINATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES ABOUT THEIR VISION OF FUTURE

     Background and Objectives: the examination of the vision of the future of young people with learning disabilities it rarely comes into the focus of research (Mártonfi, 2011; Móré and Mező, 2016), though the foundation of a successful, happy life is that everyone can realize themselves according to their own goals. The present study deals with the vision of the future of young people with learning disabilities. Our aim is to find out what have life goals and prospects of young people with learning disabilities. Methods:  the participants were youngsters with learning disability attending vocational school (N=46) and their teachers (N=76), and the answers we were evaluated using SPSS, descriptive statistics, and Spearman's rank correlation. Results: The life goals of young people with learning disabilities in vocational schools have a happy life (rs = 0.43), success (rs = 0.45), and work (rs = 0.45), and starting a family is pushed into the background at this age. There is no strong correlation between young people's life goals and further education. According to the opinion of teachers, there is no significant relationship between the success of acquiring a profession and their standing in the labor market. From a life perspective, some educators consider starting a family conceivable for young people with learning disabilities.

  • A Study Examining the Health Behavior and Sports History of Students Participating in Sports Science Training at the University of Nyíregyháza

    The aim of the study is to explore the health behavior, sports history, and relationship to sports and future professional values of sports science students at the University of Nyíregyháza, with particular emphasis on gender differences and the role of sports history in the development of career motivations and value orientations. During the study, we analyzed 118 self-completed questionnaires in SPSS format, processing the data in an R environment using basic statistical indicators, chi-square tests, and independent sample t-tests. Our results show that students lead health-conscious and active lifestyles, and risky health behaviors (e.g., smoking, excessive alcohol consumption) are rare. Gender differences are minimal, with the only significant difference being in sports activity, which was higher among men. Sports background did not directly influence career choice motivations or future sports goals, but it had a significant impact on value orientation: competitive sports experience resulted in stronger perseverance and discipline orientation, which is key in sports education, coaching, and recreation careers. The research shows that sports background represents not only physical but also psychological, motivational, and value capital, contributing to the development of sports training and the shaping of future generations' attitudes toward sports.

    During the Soviet Union occupation of Afghanistan, the Taliban insurgency within this country’s borders, and a subsequent war with the USA, people inhabiting this land were forced to leave their country to cross the neighbouring borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Exploring their right place in Iran’s society resulted in the residency of approximately 3.000.000 of them, which has yielded both constructive and at the same time disturbing economic and educational experiences for both nations. Cultural similarities and deviations, in some cases mutual language, and common religion have been presented as the underlying reasons for integration opportunities and also challenges. This study explains how the trends for delivering education to Afghans in Iran have fluctuated so far, yet been remarkably more efficient than their departure point. The educational future of the second, third, and even fourth generation of Afghans in Iran has become a big question with regard to the economic status and political relations of the two countries. What this study manifests is the need to recognize and fill the gaps in the education of Afghans. This goal will be achieved through a review of human rights opposing geographical determinism, illiteracy, and mistaking prejudice and excessive behaviours in the host country.

  • LIVING CONDITIONS OF FAMILIES RAISING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN BERETTYÓÚJFALU

    Bass (2004) examined the living conditions of families raising severely disabled children in the framework of national data collection. His research results reflect the circumstances nearly twenty years ago. The present study aims is to compare the research results of Bass to the present living conditions of interviewees who live in Berettyóújfalu in the 2020s, revealing the changes which have occurred in their lifestyle, family relationships, and future plans in the course of the past years. We used a qualitative interview to reveal the characteristics of the living conditions of ten families living in Berettyóújfalu. According to our research results, there are positive tendencies in the families’ social situation, relationship system or in the economic activity of the parents, but they still face hardship and drawbacks in accessing public services and ensuring their child’s long-term future.

    Our research conducted in Tiszalök is a part of a longer, multiple part research series, in which we will identify the main social features and map the current social processes in the less populous settlements of the more deprived regions of the country in particular. Basically, the aim of our research is to understand and present the perspective of the local people. The decisive criterion for the selection of research sites was that the smaller settlements of these peripheral regions are subject to rather unfavorable socio-demographic processes, including in particular the decline in the population, aging, and the increase in the share of the disadvantaged populations. These processes – unless there are significant changes – project an even more unfavorable vision of the future. The adverse socio-demographic processes described above are definitely observable in Tiszalök. Related to this, the primary objective of the research was to understand the opportunities, goals, and vision of the local youth most affected by migration, as well as to recognize the local community relations and the characteristics of cohabitation of the Roma and non-Roma population in particular.

  • Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education

    Artificial intelligence has integrated itself into our everyday lives. The use of AI in education is not a new topic. The research aimed to explore the attitudes, experiences and potential applications of professionals working with children in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. A questionnaire method was used in the research. The survey included 122 participants (n=122). The results showed that the majority of respondents have a positive opinion of AI, even if they do not actively use it in their daily lives. Among the application areas of AI, data collection stands out in terms of popularity, while in other areas (e.g. preparing presentations, preparing for class, preparing assignments, searching for scientific literature), its uptake is more moderate but significant among respondents. Results show that AI is mostly used for tasks that facilitate information gathering and content creation. Most respondents think that AI can be used in certain areas, and there is a significant minority that is positive about its future use. There is great potential for future applications in education, although current experience and applications have not yet triggered a full-scale transformation.

  • STUDENTS' ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE USE OF FILM SEQUENCES TO IDENTIFY THE DEVELOPMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

    The current study highlights the attitude of students toward the use of film sequences, as educational resources used in the course of Psychopedagogy of people with intellectual disabilities, in the online learning environment. The participants in the study were students (N = 28) in the 2nd year, who follow the Special Psycho-pedagogy study program. The research method was a questionnaire-based survey. The working tool contains 23 questions, which were developed by the authors for this research. In the introductory part, in addition to the synthesis of the specialized literature, we briefly presented the aspects related to the management of the university course, in a pandemic context, by presenting the ways in which the film sequences were used to achieve the objectives of the discipline. The results of the descriptive study show that students show a positive attitude towards the use of film sequences in teaching, learning, and final assessment activities. Thus, the students consider that the film sequences used in the course activities facilitate the understanding of the theoretical information from the course support, about the particularities in the development of people with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, the film sequences used for assessing knowledge in the final exam took students out of their comfort zone of passively taking the theoretical information and giving an answer during the online assessment tests. The research findings highlight the practical implications and future directions of research to ensure good management of course activities in the online learning environment.

  • DIFFERENCES IN PURPOSES AND LIFE-GOALS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HEALTH BEHAVIOR IN A ROMANIAN ADOLESCENT SAMPLE

    The goal of this research was to investigate specific personality factors theorized to be involved in adolescents’ health behavior, such as individual differences in the level of purposes in life and the variations of life goals. The instrumentation for the study was a self-completed questionnaire, which included items for assessing health-behavior data, the Purposes in Life scale, and the Aspiration Index for life-goals’ assessment. There were 385 teenage study participants aged between 16-18 years (mean = 16.8 years; 182 boys – 47.3 % and 203 girls – 52,7%) in Transylvania, Romania. Results showed that adolescents who engaged in health-protective behaviors (e.g., physical activity, fruit /vegetable consumption) reported higher levels of purposes in life and intrinsic life-goals, such as affiliation or personal growth. Conversely, those engaged in health risky behaviors (e.g., substance use, sweet/soft drink consumption) not only reported lower levels in having a purpose in life but also tended to report fewer health goals for the future as well as personal growth. These findings argue that health professionals should incorporate and emphasize the development of teenagers’ life goals and purposes in the design and conceptualization of school-based prevention and health promotion programs that focus on fostering healthy lifestyle adoption.

    Among the public education efforts at the end of the 19th century, the compulsory school attendance. There were a significant number of compulsory school children whose physical and mental condition did not allow them to attend public schools. For them, they also looked for opportunities at the international level that would help them become useful members of society. This was provided by the auxiliary school for disabled children. At the turn of the century, the need for this became clear not only to professionals, but also to the government. The pedagogical press of the turn of the century also dealt with the admission possibilities of these students, the training of their teachers, their teaching methodology, and their future employment opportunities.

  • Determination and Prejudice: the Challenges of Integration for People of Roma Origin

    In this study, the determinative effects of prejudice-based disadvantage factors frequently emphasised in relation to Roma living in Hungary are analysed. For this purpose, the individual life stories of protagonists appearing in documentary films produced in the AntRom Filmműhely (University of Debrecen), as well as the analysis of community processes observed in various local societies, are utilised. The aforementioned disadvantage factors (e.g. ethnic origin, gender, family and socio-cultural background, education, labour-market status, housing) are understood to shape, both individually and collectively, the expectations and future opportunities of the individuals concerned. The aim of the study is to make visible how, and under what conditions, a life different from the “expected” can be realised.

    More than 1000 public educational institutions maintained by the church work in Hungary currently, therefore recently the denominational public education has turned into a current question again. The expansion can be originated for several reasons, to which as a starting point the law of 1990 may be considered which takes action on the freedom of conscience and religion. As a result of this since the change of the regime, the church has become a school maintainer, too, which means new challenges and continuously sets new expectations for it. Denominational schools as publicly financed institutions have to meet their educational mission with the states and the school selectors’expectations. Several researchers have examined the determinants of school selection on both international and national levels (Bell 2009, Denig et al. 2009, Dronkers 1995, Ferenc-Séra 2001, Kertesi 2014, Korzenszky 1997). We may presuppose that the school - as the device of social mobility - shows the opportunity for the child's prosperity in the parents' eye. The determinants of selecting a school may be changing in each country and age, yet there are factors that can be considered relatively constant like the residential area, the parents’ social status and educational level, their piety and cultural capital, their faith in the school as the device of social mobility, their image of the future and their knowledge on the opportunities of selecting a school. Furthermore, the content and coherence of the family may also be determined. We may assume that the motivation of the school users selecting either a denominational or a state or a foundation school can be different. Also, it can be probable that the school level –primary or secondary– influences the attitudes of school selectors.   The aim of the present study is both to show the results of a questionnaire empirical research conducted among students choosing schools maintained by the church, and by putting the results in an extended conceptional framework to find such social correlations that may help to recognise the expectations and scruples drawn to the churches as school maintainers.

       ABOUT MEASUREMENT OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

    This paper reports official data about the well-known EU migration crisis and examines the methods used to evaluate the social integration of third-country migrants into the European Union. I argue that the Zaragoza indicators, – which are currently being used – cannot include all the aspects of migrant integration, and because of this deficiency, they are not able to track the ongoing integrational processes correctly for experts and decision-makers. To demonstrate and prove this argument a comparative analysis is performed in the article. I compare data about six countries (United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Switzerland) from two data sources: the Zaragoza Indicators and the EurIslam research. The EurIslam research is a complex social-scientific project for examining the relation between Muslim migrants and their host societies and its overall considerations could make the future extension of Zaragoza indicators possible.

    The present study focuses on contemporary children's books that reflect some form of special educational need. Since recently there has been an increase in the number of books on topic available in the children's book market, with publishing series, issuing the difficult life situations and on the presentation of ’otherness’, including learning disabilities, it is of great importance to take a glance at these publications. In this essay, my aim is to focus on how the texts are written and the language of representation. In particular, I will pay attention to the illustrations, which make a crucial part of the experience of reception and interpretation. With this analysis, my aim is to show how concretely or abstractly a particular educational need can be represented, whether it reinforces stereotypes or not, and how this may impact the connection to the phenomenon. The analysis of the texts also provides an opportunity to validate different attitudes, behaviours, and perspectives, and can thus contribute to sensitisation. The presentation of specific educational needs, with its positive or negative connotations, and the phenomenon of positive discrimination, are closely linked to methodological possibilities and practical implications of interpreting the texts. Here it is worthcalling attention to the concepts of helpful books, sensitisation and prevention, the relationship between these terms and literature, and reflecting on the close connection of the aesthetically shaped texts to these problems. Accordingly, the paper will first aim to explore the concept of special educational needs, then it will present its types to point out the difficulties of definition, the different approaches, and to define its own terminology. Similarly, this paper will take into account the terminology of literary studies and the perspectives relevant to this thesis. This will be followed by the analyses of the three preselected volumes which on the one hand ask whether the books are appropriate for the age group they are aimed at, while, on the other hand, they concern the possible directions for future methodological inquiries. Finally, the conclusion part summerises the results of the study and the controversies surrounding the presentation of the subject in children's books.

  • Possibilities for Introduction of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Education System with a Holistic Approach

    The current spread of generative artificial intelligence cannot escape anyone's attention. This necessarily results in changes in all areas of life, including education, to which we need not only to react but also to prepare and anticipate. The study approaches the topic with a holistic approach and, based on recent research, formulates a methodological proposal based on recent research that can form the basis for developing a complex long-term strategy for the introduction of generative artificial intelligence in education. As part of this, after laying the theoretical background and methodological foundations, the prerequisites and preparatory steps necessary for strategy creation are mapped out, the stakeholders are identified, and proposals are then formulated regarding long-term goals and their breakdown into operational plans and action sequences, covering sensitization, building teacher competence, the application of artificial intelligence in teaching and education for students. The study highlights key areas and draws attention to steps to help solve current and future problems, including expected impacts and consequences.

    This study seeks to determine whether it is an exceptional talent and hard work, or courage mixed with young energy and luck, maybe all these together, that makes it possible for young adults with a fresh diploma in the 2010s to find their future in Europe’s labor market. Sample: n = 28 (22-35 years old) women. Method: semi-structured interview. Results: even though all the interviewees are unique, all the participants can be said to have a few things in common; persistent study and exceptional diligence paired with talent. There is, however, one more thing shared across 98% of interviewees in our research sample; when asked if they will come back to Hungary, they answered without hesitation that they didn’t think they ever would.

  • THE OXIPO GAME COLLECTION FOR DEVELOPING COGNITIVE ABILITIES

    This study is a presentation of the first phase of a complex research project which aims to present the theoretical background of a new game collection (based on OxIPO model). We have compiled a game collection to improve cognitive abilities in early childhood. Concerning cognitive abilities, Affolter's (1972), Sindelar's (1994) and others' earlier developmental approaches took into account visual, auditive or motoric (inter) modalities of perception, however, we believe we need a more complex model to cover the full capability. Within the framework of the OxIPO model (Mező, 2002, 2016), learning is interpreted as an information processing process. In the OxIPO model (Field, 2002, 2016), Learning = Organization x (Input + Process + Output) allows us to control and systemize not only the input modalities but also the output modalities and also to interpret some cognitive abilities in the process phase. We have created a game-collection based on six input (visual, auditive, kinesthetic, olfactory, gustatory, and tactile) modalities and five cognitive abilities (perception, attention, memory, conceptual thinking, problem-solving thinking) and three output (visual, auditive, motoric) modalities. The outcome of the six input modalities and the five target abilities and the three output modalities there are 90 different games that can be described by the OxIPO model. In the future, we would like to prove with empirical studies that this game collection can be used for testing and developing 90 independent cognitive abilities. On the other hand, we need to prove that these cognitive abilities indeed influence the daily lives of children and their effectiveness.

  • INVESTIGATING THE WILLINGNESS TO USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION AMONG STUDENTS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

    Goal: Artificial intelligence-based systems, tools, and services have penetrated all areas of life, including education. The aim of this study is to find out the views of future special education teachers on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Method: In research, we surveyed n= 157 students in special education teachers with a questionnaire survey. The results were evaluated by mathematical statistical analysis using SPSS software.  Within the software, cross-tabulation analysis, χ2 test, and frequency analysis were used. Results: only a very small percentage (18.5%) of the prospective special education teachers had encountered tools based on AI and applications during their previous studies. They will prefer to use AI tools outside classroom activities. There is no significant difference in the willingness to use AI in relation to age, 59.7% of those under 24 years and 65% of those over 24 years consider AI tools necessary in special needs education.  However their knowledge about AI applications, tools, and possibilities is very uncertain and limited, and therefore there is a need for a wide dissemination of AI education.

    The aim of the study is to highlight the attitude of the students (N=72) from Pedagogy of Primary and Preschool Education Program (pre-service teacher), from first and third years of study, related to how they want, as future teachers, to develop pupils’ learning skills in the inclusive classroom by adopting certain behavioral management of pupils with special needs. The working tool used is the Behavior and Instructional Management Scale, developed by Martin and Sass (2010). The comparative analysis of the results obtained according to the year of study captures the existence of statistically significant differences in the aspect of the management of the behavior in the classroom, both in traditional and inclusive classes, during the lessons, with higher averages for the pre-service teachers of 3rd year. Also, pre-service teachers from the 3rd year of study have a higher level of expectations for implementing the rules in school activities with pupils with special needs, compared to the pre-service teachers of the 1st year, which draws attention to the importance of pedagogical practical stage in primary school.

    The technological and industrial revolutions have always made an impact on education and the science of pedagogy by providing new opportunities, tools, and methods, presenting the real challenges for the teachers at the same time. Among the new technologies, the application and usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in education is increasingly regarded as a key driver of educational innovation and creativity in the 21st century. However, it is also highly important to ensure and support the continuous professional development of teachers with reference to AI, since the emergence and implementation of new technologies demand and require new competencies, roles, and a transformation in the teachers' attitudes. This essay explores and describes the appearance and application of AI in the 21st-century educational environment, examining the current trends, the development of new competencies, and the transformation of teaching roles, in order to outline a potential future vision aimed at achieving a successful and positive scenario.

    The topic of this study is implementing a globally available, centralized knowledge base, which can be accessed and searched online via a brain interface for everyone. Our goal is to describe this plan, first analysis from the side of society. After this, we try to present how the actual form of this knowledge base was developed from the Time Begins to the present. At the end of the study, we describe two ways: the most pessimistic and the most optimistic ones, their odds, and the facts which increase the realization of odds.  This study was carried out at the University of Debrecen, in the „Time capsule 2016+20” project as part of the Program for Talented Students (DETEP) program.     This work aims to answer the questions of, what is the communication and mass media role in the process of settling down in a new landscape through analysis of the publications and communications in the medium newspapers, ranging the year from 1921 to 1989. The main newspaper this research focuses on is the "O Correio do Povo" which is the main local newspaper of the city of Jaraguá do Sul, also the "Jaraguá: Seminarios Nacionalistas" another newspaper that circulated for a few years in the city. Thus, the focus is on reporting and analyzing the newspaper advertisements and reports, to answer the questions of, what is the communication and mass media role in the process of settling down in a new landscape by the Hungarian immigrants in the South of Brazil. Based on archive research, focused on the role of the media in the process of immigration and colonization in Jaraguá do Sul. The timeline range covers the propaganda made for the arrival of Europeans to the south - before 1891 as presented in books -, going through the publications in the local newspapers from 1921 to 1989. Finally, a brief introduction was made about the nowadays publications, reinforcing the role of the newspaper in remembering, which generates questions about its new roles in society under a digital acceleration. The whole analysis brought up also the main values and needs of the community during the first decades, through the portrait of the current in the past, which the newspaper helped to compose. Such aspects will help in the reflection of future analyses on how it was reflected in the local architecture.
