In Hungary, cities close to people and nature have historical roots / Aspects and impressions regarding urban research
5-19Views:117Nowadays, the population is significant, the vast majority of the population of our continent lives in cities or in urban environments. Research into the concept, types and legal privileges of the city intensified in Hungary in the 20th century. Urban characteristics are addressed by several branches of social science, including geography, economics, administration, art, geography, and ethnography. An important challenge for today's urban researchers is the multidisciplinary research of the lifestyle of the population living in the city and its catchment area, as well as the examination of the domestic possibilities of urbanization. The study presents the Hungarian researchers of those historical disciplines who have scientifically explored domestic urban development in their works and contributed to the development of the possibilities of urban development. From the work of various research circles, we can learn about the Hungarian characteristics of the city and its environment, the urbanization of catchment areas, based on which today's settlement and social researchers try to present and forecast the current characteristics and expected tasks of the quality of life. Hungarian urban research is somewhat late compared to international research, which is also due to domestic history. Despite the delay, it proves that in our country, as in most of Europe, the historical roots are not in the construction of megacities, the construction of sky-high skyscrapers concentrated in relatively small areas, but rather in the territorial expansion of cities, the development of urbanization in agglomerations and various settlement forms.

Changes in the main dimensions of quality of life in Nyíregyháza
20-64Views:210The Quality-of-Life Research Group of the University of Debrecen Faculty of Health Sciences has been examining various dimensions of the quality of life of the residents of Nyíregyháza through regular data surveys since 2008. The results from the most recent study completed in 2023/2024 focused on indicators that fundamentally determine the quality of life - economic activity and employment, income situation and income inequalities, housing conditions, social problems and support systems. This approach was taken because the research group interprets the quality of life as a complex concept and considers these indicators to be decisive from a sociological perspective.
Even though the proportion of the employees is very high in the city, significant differences were found based upon education and the perception of working conditions. Employment is a determined factor in income and while the average income has increased in recent years, the values of income inequality indicators also show an increase.
There has been improvement in housing both in quantity and quality for those living in privately owned apartments. On the other hand, those who do not have sufficient resources to purchase a home, have to face increasing rental prices and a decreasing number of municipal rental apartments. One out of five households have household expense burdened by debt.
Regarding support systems, this research shows that the poor and the less educated have smaller and less resource-rich networks than those of the better-off and more educated. Material and relational exclusion are typically intertwined, which can further exacerbate the negative effects of social exclusion.PDF (Hungarian)105 -

65-82Views:152Introduction: Health literacy is the ability to access, understand, and apply health-related information for informed decision-making.
Methods: Our study, based on data from a Hungarian panel survey, examines health literacy levels with a focus on the impact of age, educational attainment, income, and digital access.
Results: Results show that individuals with lower education, poorer financial status, and limited digital access face greater difficulties in interpreting health information.
Summary: Social inequalities in health literacy underline the need for clear communication and targeted educational interventions to promote health equity and improve individuals' ability to make informed health-related decisions. -
Szeged Studies 2000-2024. From a quarter of a century of urban research.
83-131Views:115The study presents the methodology of the Szeged Studies research series launched by the Department of Sociology of the University of Szeged in 2000 and the opinions of the city's residents on some key social phenomena. The representative survey research, carried out annually for 25 years, explores the social, environmental and security processes of the city in a multidisciplinary approach. The methodology is based on empirical data collection and field research based on face-to-face interviews and surveys (PAPI, CAPI), in which university students play an active role. In our study, we analyse changes in public trust, public safety, migration attitudes and environmental awareness in a longitudinal and cross-sectional approach. Our results show that over the past 25 years, the overall perception of security among the citizens of Szeged has improved, while concerns about climate change have increased. Overall, attitudes towards foreigners have moved towards acceptance, with fluctuations. Levels of trust in institutions are low, except among older and less educated groups, where they are higher. The aim of this series of studies is to explore the complex factors affecting the functioning of local society and to contribute to the practice-oriented development of sociology education.

A lakhatási mobilitás hatása hátrányos helyzetű családok életmódjára
132-153Views:186In our research, we examined the impact of an integration program for catch-up purposes in a small settlement, which also provides housing mobility, on the lifestyle of the disadvantaged families affected by the intervention. During the interview research supplemented by document analysis, dimensions that determine lifestyle we were examined, such as the physical characteristics of the apartment, income situation, labor market situation, attitude to education, health status, and mental state. Based on the results, we found a positive correlation in several examined dimensions between the lifestyle change of the families involved in the research and moving out of the segregated area. At the same time, it can also be stated that housing mobility implemented within the framework of the catch-up project may not be able to have the expected effect and achieve the set goal in itself.

Investigating the buying habits of compulsive buyers using a qualitative method
154-176Views:156Our study deals with the topic of compulsive shopping. In parallel with the spread of the Internet and the consumer society, the proportion of compulsive shoppers is also increasing. In our research, our goal was to explore the shopping habits of compulsive shoppers and the characteristics of problematic shopping using qualitative methods. We included six subjects in our study, who were considered compulsive shoppers based on the Shopping Behavior Questionnaire (QABB), and we reached them using the snowball method. We divided the presentation of the results into two parts. First, we deal with the shopping habits of compulsive shoppers, and then we examine some characteristics of shopping addiction in their case. During the examination of problematic shopping, we divided the respondents into three groups regarding the occurrence of financial problems, distinguishing between attentive, relapsed and resigned members.

Többszörös intelligenciavizsgálat a Nemzeti Közszolgálati Egyetem hallgatói körében
177-194Views:101Cognitive flexibility is one of the most important abilities that is a challenge of the 21st century, which can be achieved by developing creativity and intelligence (Spiro & Jehng 1990) or by applying the flow pedagogical model in the classroom. In the present study, we investigate the multiple intelligence levels of students at our university (N=5670; n=747). The focus of the research is to assess the students' multiple intelligence map and to examine its applicability in the classroom. The quantitative research was conducted in the academic year 2022/2023, for which the Gardner multiple intelligence test was adapted. Our hypothesis is that students' intelligence types are strong for the strength of the faculty, while the other intelligence types need improvement. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS statistical software with multivariate procedures including independent variables of gender, faculty and place of residence. The results showed a significant correlation between the faculty distribution of students and the variables under study. This supports the theory that cognitive flexibility can be enhanced primarily through the development of different types of intelligence.
