My text offers a possible and reachable way for suffering people to access hapiness.

Determining and identifying the effectiveness of social work pose significant challenges for both researchers and practitioners alike. Due to quality assurance, training expectations, and scientific thoroughness, we continually seek ways to define results and to make the necessity of social work visible. In our interpretation, empowerment realized in a support relationship can serve as both the aim of assistance and as an indicator of the effectiveness of the relationship. Due to the multifactorial nature of the support process, it is not easy to identify which agent in the collaborative work led the individual to a state where they can control their own lives and influence their environment. In our study, we examine the morphosemantic meaning of empowerment and uncover the content contradictions that emerge in the analysis. Subsequently, we direct attention to the organizational environment of the support relationship: we explore which organizational characteristics and operations influence the realization of empowerment and how this may occur.

In the period between 2018 and 2020, two organizations in the city of Tapolca also launched programs aimed at the prevention of mental health and prevention of addictions. In the present study, the focus is on the collaborations that have taken place on the programs and on the motivation of the professionals in terms of getting involved in the programs. The basic question is what effect the established collaborations will have on social professionals and the services they provide in the future. The evaluation of the results has shown that responding to the social problems present is important for all sectors and can be described as a common issue. In the new techniques learned by the applications, professionals see an opportunity for treatment, which can also be the basis for working together. Thus, it can be said that interprofessional cooperation is present in the city, which is a strong basis for building interdisciplinary professionalism. However, the social and educational fields were basically involved in the programs, so we cannot yet talk about fully promoting interdisciplinary cooperation at the city level.

The case study describes the organisation of a community space support network in a county seat in Eastern Hungary. The study of the Labor Café's facilitative collaborations presented in this article was conducted using participant observation, fieldwork and interview methods between 25 February and 7 March 2022, during the first ten days of the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The study aims to show the functioning of a grassroots solidarity and trust network organised around the Labor Café in a crisis. As the author herself was a volunteer member of this network during the fieldwork, this paper is both a synthesis of her experiences and a theoretical framework for understanding them. The paper will provide a detailed description of the solidarity networks in Hungary and support attitudes by describing the events presented in the case study.

  • The importance of social rehabilitation as an effective tool for activation for the parent’s perspective

If the situation arises when a child's proper upbringing and favourable development are at risk and parents cannot or are not able to solve this situation by themselves, the child is, according to act on social and legal protection of children, considered as endangered (Act No. 359/2009 Coll., on social and legal protection of children).
It is not easy to determine the degree of risk and it is even harder to choose the suitable support service and involve parents, considering the degree of risk. A true professional makes the family realize that the problem solution is connected with responsibility and the quality care for children (Gjuričová, Š., Kubička, J., 2003).
During the last five years, several new sorts of support services have been created in order to attempt to provide support tailored to the needs of the aforementioned families (Act. No. 108/2006 Coll., on social services).
Social rehabilitation is an example of such auxiliary service. It emphasizes the bond between parents and children and brings out family ties in general (Act. No. 108/2006 Coll., on social services).
The acceptance of social rehabilitation is very difficult for every family. With regard to psychology, families must deal with complicated stressful situations (Bob, P., Vymětal, J., 2005).
Centre for children of South Bohemian region in Strakonice has been performing social and legal protection for children since 2006. The main target of the Centre for children is mutual communication with families, cooperation and rational problem solution. This would be barely possible without the participation of the family, or at least one of its members.
Mutual cooperation, empathy, thoughtfulness, helpfulness, sympathy and patience are essential for social work. In order to solve problems efficiently, it is also convenient to know the viewpoint of the family in relation to the provided service. The opinion of the family can reveal many issues.
Martin Karas is the director of the Centre for children, which focuses on active involvement of family in social rehabilitation. He highlights one of several problems - insufficient and unsystematic support of family from institutions in the process. Insufficient support may prevent children’s return to their biological family in time. In his studies he focuses on an important issue – the active participation of the family in problem solving.
The aim of this article is to point out that active cooperation with family, especially the opinion of family, is an important criterion of the quality of the partnership. The article contains interviews with participants and former participants of social rehabilitation; several conclusions were made based on these interviews.

The investigation of social resources that facilitate problem-solving plays a major role in the understanding of internal client migration. This study deals primarily with the investigation of family- and social network in the broader sense by examining the risk factors of the given field. The quality of relationships determine quality of life in general. The intensity, depth and content of these relationships are all important resources in the personal life of the client. Besides these personal relationships, professional supporting relationships that help improve or maintain quality of life play a dominant role in the life of migrating clients. A further aim of the study is to review the literature and methodology of case diagnostics in the field of practice of individual and family-level case work. Thereby, we can interpret the system of lack of resources related to internal client migration and thus we can relocate the focus points of complex supporting work.

The objective of the study is to investigate the integration of social work students in the labour market in order to develop social work BA-level education. The research is based on a quantitative questionnaire completed by a number of 196 University-graduate respondents. The data collection was carried out in three institutions: Partium Christian University, University of Pécs, and University of Debrecen. According to the results, most experts consider themselves well prepared, but they have some shortcomings in their skills such as knowledge of foreign languages, financial literacy, project management, application writing, research methodology and understanding social processes. University education should focus more on these areas. Most of the professionals are satisfied with their education, but the proportion of the average evaluators is also high. It was found that the relationship between the knowledge acquired in the university is not significantly related to job satisfaction, and certain skills can be retrofitted during work practice.

As social workers we frequently meet teenagers who are suffering from some type of depression. Of course social workers cannot heal them, or use therapy, but we do have to do everything in our power to form a trusting relationship with them as our clients. They need to communicate with us, which is already a challenge when it comes to the relationship between an adolescent and an adult. My project’s goal was to find the use and role of art therapy in our work with clinically depressed adolescents.
In my research I write about the typical signs and forms of depression, and explain a few theories about the cause of the illness. Then I introduce different types of art therapy, mainly focusing on their use in social work. I examined different methods in art therapy and made a few recommendations about how they could be used in working with depressed clients.
During my work I was very careful not to overstep the lines of social work. As I said, we cannot cure depression, but we can use certain tools of art therapy as a bridge between the social worker and the client whose age and illness makes it even more difficult to build a trusting relationship.

A két szakterület közti hasonlóságok és különbségek feltárását a professziódiskurzusban fellelhető elméletekbe ágyazva végeztem el. A tanulmány a segítő szakmák lényegére fókuszáló teoretikus kérdésekben kíván szakirodalmi áttekintést nyújtani. A dolgozat célja egyrészt a professzionalizációval, professziókkal foglalkozó elméletek irányzatainak elkülönítése, másrészt pedig annak bemutatása, hogy a pedagógus- és szociális munkás hivatásokkal mint professziókkal kapcsolatban milyen dilemmák, nehézségek jelentkeznek az elméletek értelmezése, alkalmazhatósága terén.

The method was first developed in the realms of medical education, but in recent years it has reached a rather wide range of professional training programs, including social work education. Following a condensed theoretical overview of the method, the author outlines the concept and thematic structure of a short (four-day) introductory workshop for teachers and curriculum developers working in higher education of social workers and allied professionals, who would have the chance to discuss the possibility of introducing the method in their teaching practice as a starting point towards the integration and development of a more practice-oriented training of social professionals.

The study seeks to understand what benefits homeless people – based on their own explanations, perceptions – attribute to the place they chose to spend their nights, and often their days as well. What factors influence their choice in where they spend the night, where they sleep. We answer these questions through analysing almost 6200 responses to the annual national February 3rd survey.

Our research reveals that for homeless people – just like for others – the factors influencing the choice of accommodation range wider than its primary, physical conditions, like a roof, heating, possibilities for sleep and shower, or fulfilling other basic needs like accessing food. Other characteristics defining a home (such as security, autonomy and freedom provided by privacy) are equally important.

Professionals working with homeless people can build on understanding the differences between the motivation, preferences of values between homeless people sleeping in various services or on the streets when weighing the advantages of a certain type of accommodation or when deciding whether to “go sleep in a shelter” or “stay outside”.

I have been trying to finish this paper for years. I started when, in the summer of 2018, a father of three children who was being evicted for not paying a foreign currency loan killed one of our colleagues, the only person who tried to do something for him in a hopeless situation. Initially, I wanted to write about the safety of social workers at work and the possibilities of risk management. I was invited to a committee of experts to draw up recommendations on this subject. While writing the expert opinion, as a social worker, I tried to assess the risks that threaten our colleagues in their daily work, and also what we can do, or who at all can do and what to control these risks. I also realized how much an intervention is worth that doesn’t affect the most serious risks, it just makes recommendations to colleagues on what to do if, for example, a father deprived of his child shows up in the office swinging an ax. In addition, interventions come at a price. What can social assistance work be like without intimate counselling rooms, but with police protection, panic buttons, paprika spray, official person! badge, and so on. I also participated in the group of experts whose first report on a serious malpractice case also appears in this issue. And then came the coronavirus epidemic. And now I have completed the study, which is actually about the crisis of our profession and what can to be done to manage it.

Munkámban ennek okaira keresem a választ.

Social worker identity development is a key to helpers’ effectiveness. Institutions of higher education have their own systems to assess knowledge and skills. Measuring attitudes, and emerging autonomy and responsibility remains a challenge, though the developmental level of these latter components are fundamental to the motivations and reflectivity of the practitioner.  Identity Structure Analysis is a method to explore the main elements of professional identity, identity formation and dynamics. Our sample included 57 social work practitioners. Our results indicate that a degree in social work, research and critical thinking were considered of secondary importance as compared to continuous professional development opportunities.  Self-awareness trainings and clinical supervision were identified as key training resources. Based on our results, curriculum development should include considerations on professional identity development. Continuing professional education, trainings, mentoring, and clinical supervision are essential resources for social worker practitioners during their career.

  • The usefulness of the sources of formal and informal support in the context of the needs of families with children with disabilities
    Views:
    190

Background: A child’s disability changes the family and has an impact on the quality of life of all its members. Consequently, the family’s needs change as well, especially when it comes to their need for support.

Goal: The goal of this study was to map how families with children with disabilities perceive the usefulness of the sources of formal and informal support in the context of family needs, as very important feedback for social work and social policy as major actors in formal support.

Methods: The study was conducted using a quantitative research strategy. The relevant data was acquired using two standardized questionnaires – The Family Support Scale (FSS) by authors Dunst, Jenkins and Trivette (1984) and The Family Needs Survey by authors Bailey and Simeonsson (1988). The sample of respondents was comprised of 493 parents of children with disabilities, out of which there was a much larger number of women – mothers (N= 427) than men – fathers (N= 66).

Results: The results of the study suggest that for families with children with disabilities, the most dominant need is the support from their relatives, while they also feel an increased need for finances. In terms of the perception of the usefulness of sources, informal support was more dominant, and the support of a husband / wife / partner and close relatives was determined the most useful. The study proved the existence of various statistically significant links, such as the link between informal support in the form of parent groups, financial needs, and the need for support from the community.

Conclusion: The study proved an important fact – that whichever kind of formal, but mainly informal support has a direct influence on the extent of the satisfaction of needs. The presence and usefulness of sources of support positively impacts the satisfaction of family needs.

Ifjúsági munkások szakmai életútját bemutató interjúsorozatunk harmadik darabja Katona Máriával készült, aki Békéscsabán és Debrecenben dolgozott ifjúsági munkásként. Közművelődési diplomával lépett a szakmába 1980-ban. Amikor 2013-ban felszámolták a regionális ifjúsági szolgáltató irodákat, a Nemzeti Művelődési Intézet megyei módszertani munkatársa lett. A segítő szakmák indulása idején tagja volt a humán szolgáltatások megteremtésén dolgozó körnek, de soha nem gondolta, hogy a szociális munkára cserélné az ifjúsági munkát.
