  • New data to spreading of Plantago coronopus in Hungary

    In this study, new data of the naturalized roadside alien Plantago coronopus L. found in 2020 are listed. Numerous stands have been detected at sites far from previously known localities. These data show that P. coronopus is still in an intense phase of its spread. The species currently known from 90 flora mapping units in Hungary. Its new observations come from the narrow vegetation strip along roadsides, with the exception of the new data from Szombathely, which comes from the parking lot of a shopping center.

    This is the first part of a series presenting previously unpublished data of importance for the knowledge of native vascular plants in the Pannonian Region. This paper deals with the families Lycopodiaceae, Brassicaceae, Crassulaceae, Rosaceae and Orchidaceae. We document the occurrence of Lycopodiella inundata from a ski slope on the outskirts of Nagyhuta (Northern-Hungary) as a new species in Hungarian flora. New occurrence data are reported for the roadside spreading Sedum caespitosum and Thlaspi alliaceum. We report on the specimens of Spiraea crenata found in the interior of settlements (gardens, cemeteries) between 2019 and 2024. New occurrences of several orchid spe­cies rare in Hungary are reported: Himantoglossum adriaticum from the Mecsek Mts, the Balaton high­lands, the Bakony Mts and the Szigetköz regions (Western-Hungary); Ophrys fuciflora from Zala and Veszprém counties (Western-Hungary); Dactylorhiza fuchsii from Mezőföld region; Orchis mascula subsp. signifera from the northern part of the Great Plain (Northeastern-Hungary).

  • Floristic records from northern Pest and western Nógrád counties

    This paper presents significant floristic records from recent years in the northern part of Pest County and the western part of Nógrád County. The 100 occurrences represent 54 species, of which three are pteridophytes and 51 are flowering plants. The occurrences are new at least at the microre­gional level or, in some cases, confirm old or uncertain records. Fifteen species are newly recorded or have significant new data for the North Hungarian Mountains. Most of the species are aliens or native plants showing secondary spread along roads. For several of them, a northward expansion of their distribution in Hungary has been identified.

  • Asparagus verticillatus L. in Hungary

    Climbing asparagus (Asparagus verticillatus L.) a new adventive species to the Hungarian flora was recently discovered in the city of Pécs (South Hungary) in 2011–2012. Taxonomy, morphological description and current localities of the species are presented in this paper. A. verticillatus is a mediterranean-submediterranean species native in Balkan Peninsula, Eastern Europe, Western- and Middle Asia. The species is a popular ornamental plant in Hungary, but no data was available about its escape or naturalisation in the country so far. Herbarium specimens from Hungary were collected so far mostly from botanical and private gardens; only one specimen was collected in a dry grassland along a roadside in the city, respectively. The newly discovered small populations are located mostly in secondary dry grasslands, at the edges of vineyards and private gardens on the southern slopes of the Mecsek Mts and only one specimen was found far from the residential area in natural vegetation. Because climbing asparagus is a frequently planted ornamental plant in several locations of Pécs, further escape, naturalisation and persistence of the species is possible in the future.
