THE 7 CORE PRINCIPLES OF WALDORF EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)
133-148Views:354Waldorf education provides a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically demanding educational approach. It seeks to stimulate lifelong learning in all students while also allowing them to fully utilize their individual abilities. Hence, the objective of this study is to establish how the seven core principles of Waldorf education will assist children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to flourish. The Waldorf method, according to Priyanti and Warmansyah (2021), is utilized to help children attain a delicate blend of genuine experience, which leads to a strong level of confidence in their abilities. This applies the acquired abilities to use especially for ASD children. Furthermore, the significance of this paper can also assist the educational system in identifying the methodological underpinnings that will benefit these special kids. This study is a review of the literature to determine how the seven key principles of Waldorf education support children's moral growth and encourage free and independent thought, which promotes self-discovery. ASD children benefit greatly from educational philosophies that encourage the development of successful social-emotional behaviors and academic skills. Waldorf education, an educational philosophy that emphasizes developmentally appropriate hands-on learning, has been shown to improve social and academic outcomes for children with disabilities such as ASD.

PARENTAL FACTORS INFLUENCING SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS OF PUPILS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, KWARA STATE
35-51Views:105The purpose of this study was to evaluate how parental influences affected students' academic performance in the Kwara State capital of Ilorin. Researchers have expressed worry over students' low academic performance in school, and it is commonly acknowledged that for students to fully benefit from their education, their parents must give them their entire support. The research was a survey. All primary school teachers in the city of Ilorin made up the study's population, and a mixed method approach was used on a sample of 215 respondents (of whom 200 completed questionnaires and 15 participated in interviews). Simple random and selective sampling methods were used to choose the sample. The data was gathered via a survey called the "Parental Factors Influence School Achievements of Children Questionnaire" (PFISAPQ). The factors taken into account were gender, age, educational background, and number of years of teaching experience. Demographic information was expressed as a percentage, and the two null hypotheses were tested using the 2-way ANOVA statistical tool at the 0.05 level of significance. Mean and rank order analysis was used to analyze the research questions, and thematic analysis was then used to analyze the subsequent questions raised to support the main research questions. The results showed that, among other things, parental involvement, parental oversight, parental involvement in extracurricular activities, parental academic background, parental interest in education, and parent-child relationships are the primary factors positively affecting children's academic success. Also, significant differences existed in the parental factors influencing school achievements of pupils as expressed by primary school teachers based on gender, age, educational qualification, and years of teaching experience. It was recommended that parents should be encouraged to improve their involvement in children’s academic activities by supporting them and being actively involved in encouraging pupils to learn and achieve maximally in school.

THE SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS AND ACADEMIC PREPAREDNESS OF STEM STUDENTS IN HUNGARY
73-86Views:170Although the dropout behavior and labor market opportunities of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students and the masculinization of STEM fields are all well-researched topics in STEM research, there is a very limited body of literature focusing on the social background and academic preparedness of STEM applicants. Thus, in this research, we compared STEM and non-STEM students based on their type of settlement, type of secondary school program, the rate of students coming from a disadvantaged background, extra points given for academic accomplishments, and total application score. To identify variables that significantly predict getting admitted to a STEM field, we conducted binary logistic regression. During our research, we conducted the analysis using the 2017 Hungarian Admission Database. Our sample consisted of those who got admitted to a full-time BA/BSc or undivided course (N = 41324). According to our results, STEM students cannot be identified as a disadvantaged group either in terms of their social background or their lack of academic preparedness. According to the results of the binary logistic regression, the main predictors of getting admitted to a STEM field are gender (male), having a language certificate, and having a vocational training certificate. The main goal of our research was to explore whether the individual characteristics of STEM students can be the reason behind the high attrition rates specific to STEM fields. Since our results did not support this conclusion, we suppose to further investigate the role of institutional variables (such as climate, the selective approach of college teachers, and high academic expectations) in dropouts.

RESEARCH ON THE RELATION BETWEEN THE SUBJECTIVE SENSE OF HEALTH AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
51-64Views:580A number of methods have evolved for assessing our health in parallel with the expansion of scientific knowledge. Medicine describes our health through objective methods and measurable variables. Of course, we also have an image of our own state of health, which, for all its subjectivity, is a good indicator of our physical and mental processes. Our sense of health can be a genuine reflection of our state of health, which directly and indirectly affects our professional/academic performance. We have a constantly expanding knowledge of the beneficial effects of the increase in physical activity on health, and its mechanism of action can be interpreted from a number of aspects. The examination of the health and physical activity of the secondary school age group provides useful information for individuals, parents, and those working in the field of education (education policymakers and educators). In this research, we examined the relationship between the level of physical activity (relative to the recommendations of WHO) and the sense of the health of high school students, their school performance, and the appearance of various emotional factors. Then we complimented it with a study of the motivational background for those aged 14 to 18. During the analysis, we identified a significant link between high levels of physical activity and the high quantified value associated with the sense of health. We found no significant correlation between academic performance and physical activity levels. We experienced a significant relationship between emotional factors when comparing the categories of happiness, mood, energy, as well as sadness, and fatigue with physical activity. Among the motivators for exercise, the improvement of physical condition is prominent, and this age group clearly rejects the expectations of others. It is also instructive for those working in the field of physical education that the experience of exercise is critical for members of the age group.

MOTIVATIONS OF MENTOR CANDIDATES PARTICIPATING IN THE LET’S TEACH FOR HUNGARY MENTOR PROGRAM’S PREPARATION COURSE
21-41Views:440The present study focuses on the role of mentoring in education. The topic of mentoring has increasingly got into the focus of researchers in recent years (Bencsik és Juhász, 2017).In accordance with international practice, the role of mentors in Hungarian public education institutions has become more valuable. In proportion to recognizing its role in education, different mentoring programs have emerged in each type of school. In the present study, our orientation is specifically aimed at the students of the Teach for Hungary Mentoring Program in Debrecen, in order to map the aspects of the motivations of the student mentor candidates in Debrecen. Among other things, we are curious about their emotional and cognitive attitude toward mentoring, and we are interested in the extent (or lack thereof) of their commitment to mentoring. Our aim is to explore, what influences the final decision among students to become a mentor (material, mental resource, etc.) and how these factors interact/relate to each other. In the spring semester of the 2018/2019 academic year, we conducted our research with 151 young students who took part in a theoretical course to become a mentor. The foundation of our research is the questionnaire created by Ceglédi, Szűcs, Hüse, and Berényi (2019), and that form was filled in by a student who applied for a TMO1 course at the beginning of the 2019/20 academic year. Nearly 50% of respondents decided to commit themselves to mentoring, and the other 50% did not undertake mentoral activity for some reason. Based on our results, it can be said that assistance and financial support in the form of scholarship were the main motivating factors for mentors, but the latter was important mainly for male students, nor had the financial aspect primary importance for students with a disadvantaged background in the development of motivation. According to our conclusions, commitment and strong internal motivations play an important role in mentoring, while financial benefits in the form of external motivation can be secondary, but also play an important role in motivation.

LECTURERS IN THE POST-ACADEMIC WORLD – THE FINDINGS OF A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
7-18Views:136We can find the trace of the fragmentation and deprofessionalisation of the lecturers’ jobs from the early nineties in the field of higher education research. The post-academic phase which was described by Ziman (2002) become more typical in Hungary, too. This shift can reduce the artisan way of research, make the quantification more significant and increase the frequency of teamwork. Scott (2009) highlights that this generates such an organisational environment that is full of elements of alienation and the usage of ICT tools can amplify this tendency. The aim of this article is to reveal the reflexions of the lecturers on this specific environment with the help in 31 semi-structured interviews. We recorded the interviews in ten cities of Hungary and the lecturers came from 12 disciplines. The elements of lecturers’ work were identified (research, teaching, administration, and taking part in applications) but it is hard to see successful examples to put these parts together in high quality. The patterns of these elements are different in the fragmented world of higher education and the expectations of institutions can form their significance at the same time. The barriers to academic careers in the post-academic phase became identifiable at the same time.

Social Responsibility in Hungarian Higher Education: The Zsuzsanna Lorántffy Mentoring Programme at the National University of Public Service I.
101-114Views:34The National University of Public Service is dedicated to social responsibility. One of its forms is volunteering, a cultural aspect that is lacking in the societal embedding in our country (Fejes, Kelemen és Szűcs, 2016). The study presents the results of an ongoing mentoring program at NUPS, where university members provided weekly subject tutoring online for residents of child protection centers in Transylvania. The primary goal of the program is to provide a form of compensation for disadvantages and psycho-social care through the establishment of personal connections (Baráth, 2016), aiding in the improvement of academic performance for underprivileged youth. In the long term, it aims to provide opportunities for the development of coping strategies that support participants in breaking through and achieving further success (Szőtsné és tsai, 2007). In the spring semester of the 2022/23 academic year, three children's homes had 36 students participating in the pilot phase of the program. After methodological training, 28 mentors provided assistance. Mentoring took place weekly in the requested subjects, including related study method counseling. Among the mentors were students, university lecturers, and functional staff, Continuous methodological counseling and experience exchange were provided. Each mentor kept a progress diary. At the end of the program, individual and focus group evaluations were conducted for all participant groups. The results of the pilot research are presented in two parts. The first presents the literature review and the academic background to the programme. The second paper will present the results of the research, the discussion and further steps planned.

THE ROLE OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUND VARIABLES IN NETFIT MEASUREMENT
33-44Views:222Assessment of physical indicators and motor skills is the Hungarian National Unified Student Fitness Test (hereinafter referred to as "NETFIT"), which was introduced in public education from the 2013/14 academic year, which aims to demonstrate the effects of everyday physical education on the fitness and physiological parameters of students. When showing the national results of the tests, it is also shown that the fitness condition is determined by the genetic conditions, the family background and the environment (Csányi et al., 2015, Csányi and Kaj 2017) so results can be interpreted in a common context of these factors. In our research, we aimed at examining NETFIT data from Budapest secondary school students, supplemented by family background surveys. During our research, we sought to find out how the fitness profile of boys studying at the Budapest Technical Vocational Training Center is based on the results of the NETFIT tests. What is the relationship between family background and NETFIT performance? Our survey was carried out at one of the largest schools of the Budapest Technical Vocational Training Center at the Technical Training Center in Újpesti Two Teaching Grammar School and Technical College of the Budapest Technical Vocational Training Center. A total of 342 pupils were included in the study, where a questionnaire of 35 questions was used to investigate the correlations of NETFIT results and socioeconomic background indicators. Numerous studies have shown that the more favorable SES students have generally more favorable fitness indicators (Jiménez-Pavon et al., 2010, Ortega et al., 2013, Vandendriessche et al., 2012). There is also a great deal of evidence that country-specific regional status indicators are higher in regions with more favorable SES (Charlton et al., 2014, Golle et al., 2014, Cleland et al., 2009, Welk, Saint-Maurice and Csányi, 2015). During our research, we found that students in need of development mostly come from small communities, with some 58.3% developing. These values differ significantly (khi = 218.6, df = 20, p = 0.000). The basic pillow of the lifestyle is the family (Field 2018), the habits of which shape the child's relationship with sports, and later it is very difficult to change them (Herpain et al., 2017, Herpainé 2018). The study showed that the father's sporting habits are decisive in the case of the examined boy's pupils, but the mother's sporting habit does not have the same effect on the sportsman's behavior. We propose to extend the NETFIT test bundle with the socioeconomic background examination of the examined person.

Prevalence and Consequences of Substance Abuse among Undergraduates in Ilorin Metropolis
31-43Views:33This study investigated the prevalence and consequences of substance abuse among undergraduates in Kwara State. The study examines whether or not moderating variables such as age, gender and family type would influence the respondents’ view on the prevalence and consequences of substance abuse among Undergraduates in Kwara State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 60 respondents from each of the three selected institutions. Thus, a total of 180 respondents participated in the study. A researcher-developed questionnaire titled "Prevalence and Consequences of Substance Abuse Questionnaire (PCSAQ)" was used to collect data for the study, using a t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the prevalent substances among undergraduates in Kwara State are cigarettes, alcohol, and tobacco among others. The findings also revealed that the consequences of substance abuse among undergraduates in Kwara State are low self-esteem, dropping out of school, and social isolation (i.e. Poor relationships with others) among others. The findings of this study also revealed that there was no significant difference in the prevalence and consequences of substance abuse among undergraduates based on age and family type. However, a significant difference was found in the prevalence and consequences of substance abuse based on gender. Based on the findings, it was recommended 1) that undergraduate students should be properly oriented by the counsellors on the dangers associated with substance abuse at the beginning of their academic year, 2) seminars and workshops should be provided by counsellors so that students would be informed about the consequences of substance abuse, 3) education should be properly structured and provided to students by school counsellor and parents at the early stage of development and 4) counsellors should organize seminars on the prevalence and consequences of substance abuse on the health of individual.

AXIOLOGICAL ISSUES COMMON TO SOCIAL PEDAGOGY AND SOCIAL WORK – HUNGARIAN TRANSLATION
103-109Views:215An attempt to find issues common to social pedagogy and social work should include the reference to the basic determinants of these forms of social activity. The fundamental assumptions of both pedagogy and social work are based on values. In the axiological dimension of accompanying a person in their development values related to human dignity, self-fulfillment and social functioning must be taken into account. It needs to be highlighted that some areas of modern pedagogy still lack the reference to the axiological assumptions. This may result in inappropriate educational attitudes as well as deficiencies in the social dimension of human life. There seems to be a serious lack of axiological references in the field of social work. It is particularly noticeable in the case of attempts to counteract domestic violence. Emphasis given to values that constitute social pedagogy and social work may help to strengthen the relationship between these scientific disciplines and forms of social activity. Defining basic values, presenting ways how to implement them, and overcome anticipated difficulties may result in attitudes based on the recognition of human dignity as well as on the multidimensional nature of life. Academic education which prepares students to professionally implement social support is a crucial element of the relationship between pedagogy and social work.

DEVELOPING MOTIVATION IN A DIFFERENTIATED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGED 10-14
67-78Views:141Students’ effective motivation is an important requirement from modern education. The main objective of the survey is to examine the motivation of 10–14-year-old students participating in differentiated development. We hypothesize that the motivation to maintain high levels of employment differentiation promotes more efficient and effective knowledge acquirement. Sample: 5-8 classes, examining a total of 354 (177 experimental and 177 control group) students. Method: Using the longitudinal method I followed up how the motivation of students brought under a pilot group and developed in a differentiated way is changing for four academic years. I also measured the motivation of a control group where no differentiated development was carried out. The motivation was measured by the Kozéki-Entwistle learning motivation questionnaire. Results: Results show that in the pilot group there was a considerable positive change in all the three important motive groups (follower, inquirer, performer), while the control group did not produce the same. The efficient learning was advanced considerably by the high level of motivation in the pilot group. Discussion: Differentiated development has got a positive impact on learning motivation.
