  • RESEARCH ON THE RELATION BETWEEN THE SUBJECTIVE SENSE OF HEALTH AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

    A number of methods have evolved for assessing our health in parallel with the expansion of scientific knowledge. Medicine describes our health through objective methods and measurable variables. Of course, we also have an image of our own state of health, which, for all its subjectivity, is a good indicator of our physical and mental processes. Our sense of health can be a genuine reflection of our state of health, which directly and indirectly affects our professional/academic performance. We have a constantly expanding knowledge of the beneficial effects of the increase in physical activity on health, and its mechanism of action can be interpreted from a number of aspects. The examination of the health and physical activity of the secondary school age group provides useful information for individuals, parents, and those working in the field of education (education policymakers and educators). In this research, we examined the relationship between the level of physical activity (relative to the recommendations of WHO) and the sense of the health of high school students, their school performance, and the appearance of various emotional factors. Then we complimented it with a study of the motivational background for those aged 14 to 18. During the analysis, we identified a significant link between high levels of physical activity and the high quantified value associated with the sense of health. We found no significant correlation between academic performance and physical activity levels. We experienced a significant relationship between emotional factors when comparing the categories of happiness, mood, energy, as well as sadness, and fatigue with physical activity. Among the motivators for exercise, the improvement of physical condition is prominent, and this age group clearly rejects the expectations of others. It is also instructive for those working in the field of physical education that the experience of exercise is critical for members of the age group.

    In the last decade, the issue of school education of children struggling with learning and behavioral disorder has come to the front in domestic as well as foreign pedagogies. The recognition and judgment of hyperactivity are characterized by uncertainty and extremes since increasingly all lively kids with excessive movement are labeled hyperactive. In turn, early detection of the disorders would enable children to get appropriate help. The following study consists of two main parts: a theoretical and a practical one. The practical part introduces concrete case studies assisting the early detection. The behavioral forms of three hyperactive children and their characteristic symptoms are explicated more broadly taking into consideration the family and school circumstances. It also aligns the forms of assistance and help in schools and gives concrete ideas and advice to teachers.

    Practice-oriented teaching for children with mild intellectual disabilities is used interchangeably in the study, therefore the investigation presented in this study looks for the answer to how children evaluate a lesson in which they work with dramatic methods. Due to the comparison, three classes - a special education class, an integrative class, and a mainstream class - processed Aiszóposz: Mice and Cats using the methods of drama pedagogy. During the investigation, questionnaire data collection and participant observation were carried out. From the results, it can be concluded that the children in all three types of classes rated the lessons with drama pedagogical tools better.

  • SUPPORTING A STUTTERING STUDENT AT SCHOOL

    Stuttering is a disability of tempo and rhythm in the speech that students, special education teachers, and speech therapists face in their daily work. Previously, stuttering has been researched from the perspective of speech therapy and speech therapists. This research is however based on the opinions of the youngsters in question. One percent of the population are considered stutterers as per Guitar’s (1998) theory — which would mean that in Estonia, approximately 1,500 students are stutterers. Students spend a large and valuable part of their day and leisure time at school. It is therefore essential that teachers and advisors are aware and competent in providing support to stuttering students as needed. These students do not receive enough support and attention, as stuttering is considered a disability that does not distract teachers from doing their job. It can be assumed that teachers do not change their methods and systems in evaluating a stuttering student. It is nevertheless crucial that the student with the impediment feels safe and good at school and can express their thoughts in speech. The aim of this research is to find out how stuttering students cope in their school environment. The research also focuses on the experiences of teachers and support specialists in order to understand their cooperation when assisting a stuttering student.

    This paper offers methodological guidance to the mathematical-statistical analysis of self-controlled (pre-test - development - post-test type) effectiveness studies of development programs written for children who need special treatment. After summarising the basic terms we show what kind of commands can be given to a downloadable free software (it is the R language), and how we can interpret the results of statistical calculations done by the software.

  • MANAGING BEHAVIORAL DIFFICULTIES OF THE FOLK SCHOOLS IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY IN HUNGARY

    The end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century was a period of widening education and eradicating illiteracy in civil nation-states. The compulsory education laws also provided opportunities for the lower social classes to obtain a school qualification that also contributed to improving their social situation. The school as a socialization terrain, in its standards, behavioral and knowledge expectations, served the political and social stability of the current system. Because in many different groups of society they differ in many ways from the expectations of the school, in the behavior of the students, they caused the existence of permanent discipline problems, which were repeatedly dealt with in the pedagogical and psychological press and publications. Discipline generally meant creating an external order, in which the main role was the example of the teacher. During the reward and punishment, the goodwill and justice of the teacher were considered important. The forms of punishment were different at the school level. At elementary school, pupils were first given oral warnings. Then the parents were informed, then the teaching staff and the guardians took action. In secondary schools, punishment ranged from verbal reprimand to exclusion from school. In high schools, physical punishments were forbidden.

    The aim of this study is to make a review on people with disabilities in terms of acceptance and rejection from antiquity till the 21st century. It also focuses on students with special educational needs based on 21 empirical studies. Teachers have debates, but the question still remains unanswered: which educational form would be better for this group of students, the integrative or the segregative?

  • FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF A TALENT MANAGEMENT ‒ GOOD PRACTICE AT THE ÁRPÁD VEZÉR PRIMARY SCHOOL IN DEBRECEN

    Talent management is a very important area in the pedagogical program of schools. Examining children’s interests or raising their interest can provide students with a learning motivation that allows talent to unfold or help the process of becoming a talent which the joint coordinated work of the teacher-student-parent can make the most effective. In our article, in the care of the talents of the students of the Árpád Vezér Primary School in Debrecen, Elektra Tóth (class 5B) we present the project presented by Ildikó Czeglédi and the process and participants of talent management as a good practice. The topic of the research was space exploration and astronomy, which could be a very interesting topic for other students. It deals with objects that seem to motivate children in the process of cognition, seeming a bit mystical and unreachable at light-years away. It was prepared for the VI. Debrecen City Talent Care Student Conference event was on March 10, 2022. The project consisted of a 3-page dissertation and a 5-minute presentation. The survey (N = 357) was completed by upper-elementary students who study in the Northern Great Plain region. The questionnaire found answers to the question of whether children are interested in space research, where they can get information about it, and what kind of school program they should be involved in related to this topic. The results of the questionnaire were processed using SPSS software, and we calculated basic statistics (mean, standard deviation) and correlation analysis (independent t-test, chi-squared distribution) too. The research confirmed that children are interested in the topic, but we were able to show a significant difference in the motivation of boys and girls during school programs. These are worth considering for teachers who organize school programs so they can reach children even more effectively in this topic. Girls can be addressed with the utility of space exploration, drawing and crafts classes, and lectures, while boys can be addressed with online games.

  • STUDENT’S ATTITUDES TOWARDS CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY

    Several studies have shown that integrated education has advantages in students’ social development and accepted attitude development (Meyer, Park, Grenot-Scheyer, Schwartz & Harry, 1998).  The studies about the integrated education had been traced for several decades, our research is based on the CATCH (Chedoke-McMaster Attitudes Towards Children with Handicaps Scale) questionnaire (Rosenbaum, 1985) which instrument had been used in several international studies as well (Tirosh, 1997; Vignes, 2008; Godeau 2010; Bosseart, 2011; De Laat, 2013, Schwab, 2017). Our major aim is to map the adolescent youth, their attitudes towards children with special treatment. The questionnaire was based on the three-component model of attitudes proposed by Triandis (1971). This 36-item, the self-administered scale was primarily paper-based, but our adaptation is placed on the online form. The participants of the study were 7th-grade students (N=99) The overall reliability of the test was satisfactory (Cronbach-α= 0,856). In the content analysis, we found two items that were significantly negative and four items which were not significant, those leaving the KMO= 0,809 (KMO>6), therefore suitable for factor analysis. The results show that, however in our sample, these three-component factors aren’t so clear, the test is reliable. There are some subtests that call for a revision, and we will need further researches to develop our assessment tool to make it more reliable and valid.

  • DEVELOPMENT OF LOGICAL-MATHEMATICAL ABILITIES OF HEARING IMPAIRED STUDENTS THROUGH THE USE OF BOARD GAMES

    Students with hearing impairment can be successful at and enjoy studying mathematics. Our research focuses on studying the effectiveness of using board games in developing basic mathematical skills and logical thinking in students with hearing impairment. Sample: n = 10 (2 females, 10 males) hearing impaired pupils (average age = 11,6 years). Method: an examination of logical-mathematical abilities before and after development. Result: strategic and logic-based games significantly impacted the development of mathematical skills and knowledge acquisition in mathematics.

    This paper offers methodological guidance to the mathematical-statistical analysis of criterium-oriented effectiveness studies (in case of examining one sample, when we compare the observed values to a criterium value of a development plan) of development programs for children who need special treatment. We provide practical help to choose the adequate mathematical-statistical test for examining differences in the case of one sample (see: Abari et all, 2015), to create commands for R statistical software, as well as to the interpretation of R results.

    In the history of special education in Hungary, after the establishment and successful operation of segregated special education institutions with a long history, public education has come to many forms of co-education, the paths of which are still not unhindered. These problems point to the need for many changes in the way the education system works. Without constant and permanent development of teachers and innovative innovations in learning methods, success can hardly be expected. But there are other important issues to be addressed. The present study focuses primarily on the direction in which trends can be found in the light of the past. While exploring the current issues, we would like to provide a new framework for interpretation by highlighting and linking some of the results of two recently completed studies (Szabóné, 2022; Trembulyák, 2022) and by placing them in the context of the topic of the study. The study also aims to draw attention to the current trend that the school life of pupils with special educational needs who have participated in co-education at the primary level becomes more difficult as they progress to secondary education. This can significantly reduce not only their career choices but also their opportunities for successful social integration.

  • ADOLESCENTS’ HEALTH BEHAVIOUR ACCORDING TO SPORT AND FAMILY STRUCTURE

       Health awareness plays an important role in our life. It’s important to live an appropriate lifestyle because an adequate way of life helps to conserve the optimal health status and to prevent chronic diseases (Conner, 2005). The role of the family and parents is still significant. Children turn toward their peers but the family stands in the background as a supporting basis (Kovács & Pikó, 2009). However this function cannot be fulfilled with the crisis and disintegration of family structure which can mean a serious stressor, so it can increase the appearance and in serious cases the long-lasting subsistence of harmful health behavior (Bramlett & Blumber, 2007). The aim of the study is to measure the appearance of smoking, getting drunk, and substance use depending on the sport and family structure in three counties on the basis of FASCES 2015. According to the results only pursuing sport does not influence the testing rate but it can be seen as a protective factor. Family structure considered on its own is not a significant influencing factor but the mediating role of social factors are well perceptible in case of smoking, getting drunk, and using weed.

  • Grades of Students with Learning Disorder and Preference of their Subjects

    In the study, based on the 2017 6th grade National Competence Measurement (NCM), we examine the average of the end-of-semester and end-of-the-year subject marks, as well as the diligence and behavior marks of children with learning disorder. In the research, we also discuss how children like different subjects depending on the existence of each learning disorders. In the research, we created seven categories (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyslexia-dysgraphia, dyslexia-dyscalculia, dysgraphia-dyscalculia, and all three together) depending on how much and what kind of learning disorder the child suffers from. Based on our results depending on the learning disorders, there is indeed a difference in the child's subject performance as well as in his/her liking of the subject, so treating the learning disorders themselves in this way in a uniform manner based on the above-mentioned is not necessarily lucky. In relation to subject preferences, the majority of children do not like those subjects in which the particular learning disorder causes problems for them.
