Ethical Leadership, at the Beginning of a Research
188-195Views:531In this study I deal with the ethical leadership. I give an insight into the approaches of ethical leadership, give a literature review on the concept of ethical leadership, and introduce the measurement methods used in the most important empirical researches related to this topic. I also try to report on the first results of my research (I plan to describe features of Hungarian leaders based on a smaller sample). How does this relate to the challenges of Industry 4.0? I give the answer from the fact that, with the advent of these new technologies (which in themselves have ethical questions), among these new challenges, the focus of the manager's attention will continue to be partly on their employees. If they set an ethical example for their subordinates, they encourage their employees to act ethically, which gives the company a competitive edge in many ways, both in the product/service market and in the labor market too. So, with my study, I would like to draw the attention of executives and managers to the fact that new technologies and the human factor together bring new successes, and that one possible way of doing this is by consciously managing their company ethically and developing an ethical organizational culture.

Servant, Ethical and Authentic Comparative Analysis of Leadership Styles in the Light of the Challenges of the BANI World
43-52Views:371In a globalised and accelerated economy, managers are under increasing pressure to reconcile organisational goals that are independent from human being with the reality of human relationships. The human being, as a being with intellect and senses striving towards happiness, is the focus of positive leadership styles and is their major concern in the field of management theory. In this article, three such positive styles, authentic, servant and ethical leadership principles and their operating conditions are compared using international literature. The literature time span of about two decades shows that the evolution of the ethical leadership literature has slowed down, while the authentic and servant leadership literature has continued to evolve and is still evolving today. The comparative table that appears in this study highlights both commonalities and distinctions, in that, in addition to high moral and ethical standards, the authentic style focuses primarily on the person of the leader, the ethical leader on the ethical standards of the organisation, while the servant leader focuses on the development of the well-being of the subordinate, the other person, even through self-sacrifice. We intend to use the results of this research to investigate measures of positive styles, preparing the scientific ground for future primary empirical field studies.

Study on Learning Motivation of Master's Students in Management and Leadership at the University of Debrecen
69-79Views:278The aim of our study is to present the topic of adult learning. To do this, we first define the definitions and importance of learning in a person’s life. We then turn to the historical background and evolution of adult learning. The motivation of adult learning as a function of different motivational theories is presented. In the second half of the study, an initial research focusing on the motivation of adult learning is presented. The subjects of our research are young adults who are pursuing their master's degree in management and organization at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen. We want answers to the extent to which different factors motivate young adults in studying. With the results, we want to give an idea of how the learning motivation of the students can be characterized by both lecturers and human resource professionals working in the private sector. We intend to expand the research to a larger sample in the future.

Evolution of Lean Management and the Organizational Learning

However, there is a significant difference between the organizations applying lean concept in case of their lean transformation maturity level as well as their lessons learned. There is a huge variety of methods and techniques which can be used but there are two conditions in case of every organization regardless their sector or their lean maturity level which determine the success of their lean development: lean approach leader and learning organization. Lean leadership is not based on a particular sector or method and a ready-made lean organization is not needed either. The concept of the top management has a huge effect on the characteristics of theorganization but whether the will of the management is enough for the complete transformation or not is the question. Is the target the lean organization itself or how a unit of an organization or the whole organization can react to the change of the environment? The attitudes and behaviors of lean approach leadership can be applied every day, everywhere and support the aim of creating a real lean organization.

Examination of Leadership Style with MLQ Among Small Enterprices in Szabolcs-Szatmár Bereg County

507-514Views:882The fourth industrial revolution poses major challenges for organisations in terms of technological aspects and from a management point of view, too. Good (effective) management is vital as it can help overcome the difficulties arising from shortages of skilled labour and from cost-cutting pressures, and it can help improve efficiency of resources. Innovations require management methods that support the introduction of industry 4.0. In my review of the literature, I aim to find out how the current level of sophistication in this new field can help managers of SME to better embrace change. Based on the reviewed literature, from management point of view, organisational structure, leadership style and HR practices are key to creating an atmosphere conducive to learning and innovation. In terms of structure, researchers do not suggest one thing to apply, but emphasise that industry 4.0 is characterised by an unstable, changing environment, so it is worth developing a structure that is characterised by decentralisation, few rules, horizontal communication and collaborative teamwork, i.e. much more organic than mechanical. In terms of different leadership styles, it is the transformational leadership that is the most often mentioned, however, in case of industry 4.0, we need even more because it can have various limitations. Even before industry 4.0, literature has highlighted that the recommended leadership style can be defined as the combination of transformational and transactional leadership; research in industry 4.0 in recent years also emphasises that it is the expanded construction of a knowledge-driven leadership style that blends the two, which can best facilitate innovation and learning. Managers can develop employee skills and improve their learning abilities through a variety of HR practices. So the right structure, leadership style and HR prepare the organisation for industry 4.0 by facilitating learning, improving skills and innovation.

Business Students’ Attitude to Social Responsibility

„Return to the Countryside” – a Qualitative Approach of Students’ Opinions About Rural Life

Within these studies the rural areas ability for survival and to retain forms an important basis. A pillar of these, that the youth from rural areas become sufficiently motivated to stay at or to return to their homeland and be able to redound development. We were looking for answers, that how university students, who participated in our current research are thinking about the hungarian countryside, in their opinion what are it’s advantages and disadvantages and it’s possible potentials. In addition, we examined those factors, which are contributing to that respondents who are studying in large cities want to stay there, but at the same time we wanted to explore the opposite factors, those that make tudents to return to the countryside. Last, but not least we investigated a very interesting topic, the relations between the respondents and the rural elite.

Evolution, Place and Role of Controlling in a Business Organisation
466-477Views:1411The development of controlling can be traced back to the beginning of 20th century. Thus it has one century of continuous scientific development. Controlling has been applied in fields such as finance, manufactureproduction, and trade sales. In financial accounting different activities have been formed for planning and accounting costs and performance. These activities were integrated by management accounting, which serves the ever growing information needs of the management. In addition to the operational functioning of growing and diversification companies controlling covers even the strategic level. The primary focus of controlling activity at 21st-century businesses is to improve organisational performance. Previously there were differences between the German and Anglo-Saxon trends. According to the German trend controlling is a set of instruments that provides the required information needed for management decision-making and based on it planning, monitoring, and controlling activities could be achieved. Furthermore, the German trend considers that a particular department is responsible for controlling activities. Conversely, according to the Anglo-Saxon conception controlling is considered as a part of management and managers are responsible for efficient allocation of resources, the so-called „management control”, carrying out planning and controlling tasks at the same time. Some differences can be recognised between the two conceptions about where is controlling placed in companies within the organisational framework. However, it can be stated as a fact, that management and controlling are inseparably linked, and the aim of both fields is to increase the performance of a company.

Z Generation’s Expectations Against Leaders
1-11Views:1726Expectations and ideas of labor market, workplace and leaders vary among different generations. In the current study we discuss the results of a word association survey which was conducted in 2015 among students in higher education. Students were asked to write down their first thoughts that they consider important against leaders. 391 students participated in the survey. The students formulated 20 different attribute-groups which can be classified into three main groups. Most of them defined sturdiness and empathy as their most important expectations against leaders. Attributes defined by 3-8% of respondents form the second group, while attributes defined by 1-2% are in the third group. The results show that sturdiness, confidence and authority are high above the most important skills for Generation Z.

The characteristics of civil organisations for sports with special regards to employment

We ascertained during our research work that the civil sector of the two investigated countries show several similarities. One of these similarities is the lag from the same sectors operating is Western-European countries. The use of volunteer working is a main characteristic of the employment in the civil sector however the paid work plays an important role too.

Kutatásunk célja, hogy két multinacionális vállalat esetében egy vezetési stílust mérő kérdőív segítségével feltárjuk a sikeres vezetés ismérveit és összehasonlítsuk a kapott eredményeket.

„Return to the Countryside” – The Retention Possibility of the Sport

Within these studies the rural areas ability for survival and to retain forms an important basis. A basic pillar of these, that the youth from these areas become sufficiently motivated to return to their rural homeland after finishing their studies and be able to redound the local social and economic development. Sadly, we experience the opposite of it. Young generations are fleeing to large cities and in medium or long term it leads to the decay of these involved settlements; in worst case scenario the results can be irreversible. In close relation with the aforementioned, we have to mention the specific behaviour of the local – rural – elite, which can be the source of further problems. In the course of our research, we wanted to investigate, that what is the reason that university students, who are studying in large cities don’t want to return or move to rural areas. Furthermore, we tried to give an inside view about their opinions of rural areas and the life in the countryside.

Sport Civic Society – Approaches and Facts
158-166Views:391After the change of regime in Hungary in 1989, the domestic civic sphere started to improve, and after numerous change in the legal regulation, currently the Act on Civic Organizations (Act 174/2011.) rules the operation of the sector before all, supplemented by additional legal background. The vital component of the new regulation is possibility of the appearance of the novel organizational form, the civic society, which is quite odd even considering the past and even on international level. The database enabling the statistical overview of the domestic nonprofits publish the end of 2019 provides no information on the data and operational features for this organizational form, which provides a thorough reason for the researcher to be interested in the topic and the organizations. Through the possible secondary data, a primary database of a lately done sports civic organization related research includes such basic data (even its sample height is small), which may be considered as a starting point at the examination of the specifications of the sports related civic societies.

Analysing the management styles is a prospering and actual scientific approach of leadership research. In the following, I present the throughputs of the researches which are applying this approach: I introduce both the „classical”management style models and the new ones. As for„classical”models, I introduce the decision-making oriented typologies, the personality oriented typologies and the situational leadership theories. By „new”theories I introduce the feminin and masculin management styles, the transactional and the transformational leadership and the participative management style. In the article I summarize the internal and external factors that influence the management style, and the same time introduce the outcomes of researches studying the topic.

The Nonprofit Sport Businesses in Hungary

One of our aims is to find out whether nonprofit-making sports organizations can compete in the nonprofit sector with other members of the sector, using the complex statistic database of the CSO recently issued for the nonprofit sector, we also show how these enterprises have undergone progress in recent years and what current social and economic weight they are as part of the third sector.

Analysing the Possible Connection Between Dark Triad Personality Traits and Ethical Attitudes of University Students
57-67Views:488In our paper we examined the possible connection between the Dark Triad personality traits and ethical attitudes among university students. The analysis of both topics has become the focus of interest in the past decades. Researchers consider the impact of many factors in the background of ethical attitudes and behavior. Among other things, personality is also a potential factor. The Dark Triad personality means the coexistence of the socially undesirable narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy. Such people are characterized by self-love, aggression, the lack of guilt or conscience, so they are less likely to have ethical attitudes. In our research, this connection was examined by a questionnaire survey conducted among first year students of University of Debrecen Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology and Faculty of Economics and Business. Respondents completed the validated Dirty Dozen questionnaire which was developed to measure Dark Triad personality and a questionnaire adapted from Lozier's research in which respondents were asked to evaluate school situations whether they are ethical or unethical and to what extent they are unethical. In our research, we were looking for significant relationships between the strength of the Dark Triad characteristics and the ethical judgment of situations. We also analyzed the differences between men and women and students of the two faculties.

Opportunities for Keeping Talent Highlighting Career Needs
31-43Views:598Organizations should focus not only on finding a workforce, but also on finding a talented employee and to be able to keep them. That is why we considered it important to pay attention to talents and careers. In this paper, we attempt to identify those factors which are important for career prospects among future employees and those already in the workforce. Moreover, we want to identify the factors which those who are already employed consider to be factors influencing their career prospects. We conducted a survey of students using questionnaires. 116 questionnaires were completed, of which 73 were filled in by BSc / BA students and 43 by Msc / MA students. We sought to discover to what degree the respondents considered the career factors we presented them with as influencing their ability to acquire an ideal job, as well as to what degree the same career factors would be able to assist them in their future career advancement. Presently, in their roles as students seeking gainful employment, important factors include perseverance, diligence, knowledge, and aptitude, all of which the respondents feel will become even more important in making their later advancement possible. At present, they do not consider the support of companions / partners and morality important; but they consider the support they receive from their colleagues to be a factor which grows in importance over time. In the questionnaire survey of employees, we were looking for two answers. On the one hand, which factors are important in shaping their careers, and on the other hand, at the workplace, which factors were related to employee retention and satisfaction. For their careers, they consider it important to have diligence, morality, and the support of colleagues. These results are similar to the views expressed by the students. However, those who already work consider ‘kissing up to the boss’ to be more important for their advancement possibilities than the students did. The responses concerning factors contributing to successful employee retention brought interesting results. Factors that are most commonly fulfilled, such as a good co-worker relationship and the working relationship with a leader, are barely above the average score of 4, which is actually a result that is above average. Medium results include the realization of independence, challenging work, fair pay and career prospects factors, all of whcih would be vital for talented people to experience flow in their careers. In the long term, leaders and HR professionals need to pay attention to take calculated, equisite steps to keep talented workers.

Vocational Training Students’ Self-Assessment in Higher Education
223-231Views:330This paper is intended to clarify the phenomenon that lower achieving students tend to evaluate their own academic performance less accurately than those who are better in their studies. Former studies have found that lower performers generally overestimate while higher performers underestimate their performance. The current study analyses the self-assessment behaviour and efficiency among Hungarian higher vocational education students. We found that the lowest level of higher education students typically overestimate themselves. Over results strengthen the empirical evidences in former studies that higher-achieving students evaluate their performance more accurately than their lower achieving fellows. Furthermore we found that lower-achieving students tend to evaluate their performance less accurate and typically over-assess their examination results than high-achieving students, who generally evaluate themselves more accurate and rather underestimate. We analysed the difference between the two genders too. Compared to female students, male tend to evaluate their results more accurate and overestimate their own performance more.
