THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-TEACHING IN THE REFLECTION OF THE CONTEMPORARY TABLOID PRESS AT THE DAWN OF THE 1930S
39-54Views:168The pedagogue's ethos and the process of professionalization of elementary school teaching in the early 1930s already have serious literature, but it's also interesting to examine the underestimated expertise of the era in other aspects. The goal of our research was to analyze the contents of two tabloids which had the largest reading camps in the first half of the 30s on the subject of teaching. Following the American-style tabloid traditions, 'Az Est' was a politically independent journal that tried to inform and entertain its readers as a market leader with an outstandingly large and qualitative correspondent network. The ’8 Órai Újság’ – founded in 1915 – defined itself as a tabloid close to the government. It identified itself especially as the concurrency of "Az Est". Both of these had remarkable readership therefore their opinion-shaper, conversation-creates power is indisputable. Unfolding the quality of their professional content, which are focusing on primary education, pedagogues, and their activities could be intriguing. What is the connotation of the mentioned articles, what kind of picture do they paint of the pedagogues in the eyes of the reader? We paid particular attention to reveal how do teachers and institutions working with children with disabilities appear in the papers. We hope that we can not only learn about the problems of the pedagogues, their professional successes and difficulties but also with the help of the articles we can gain insight into the political and public sentiment of the era.

THE CREATIVE USE OF PHOTOTHERAPEUTIC TOOLS IN EDUCATION
119-124Views:292The Educational Service functions in interdisciplinary teams. The services are primarily used by children with special educational needs, along with their parents and educators. The best practice was made by thinking in an integrated service model, based on solution-focused, children – and family-oriented experiences. One of the cornerstones is coaching, especially those tools, that inspire phototherapeutic self-knowledge and the solutions of problems, Points of You™ (Efrat Shani & Yaron Golan, 2007). The phototherapeutic picture – and word cards function as projective surfaces. They stimulate both of the cerebral hemispheres at the same time, causing an intentional confusion between the logical left hemisphere and the intuitive right one. That’s when the person is able to see a new point of view and have an „aha experience”. The new point of view can already lead to the recognition of new possibilities. The Educational Service of Hajdú-Bihar County introduced the phototherapeutic method to its educational practices in a lot of areas of the service, innovatively and uniquely in the country, on an organizational level. In the area of educational and psychological counseling and development, this method can be used in individual, couple, and group forms, as well. People can use it to develop themselves, it can be used with children, parents, educators, and other processes. The core institution of the Ministry of Education has been making this best practice popular for years now.

MANIFESTATION OF AGGRESSION IN THE CREATIVITY TESTS
43-55Views:431Although the research of interaction of aggression and creativity dates back to the beginning of the early 1900, the possibility of creativity tests to use to examine aggression is novel. In the present study (as a pre-study of long-term research which aimed to create and validate an aggression index) we focus on frequency and correlations of aggressive responses which manifest in creativity tests. Methods. We analyze the differences and correlations of a number of aggressive responses which were given to stimuli the Unusual Uses and the Circle test (verbal and nonverbal creativity tests; N = 356 people). According to our results, the numbers of aggressive responses to the different stimuli of creativity tests: a) are significantly different (p<0,001), b) do not correlate with each other widely (max r=0,414), c) depend on sample-variables of gender and age. In the case of creativity tests, we think it is possible to elaborate on a special aggression index, but during this work, we have to consider the results of this study.

Situation Picture of Hungarian of the Possibilities of Alternative Care, with Particular Regard to Children's Home and Foster Parent Placement
63-81Views:63In this study, we compare institutional and foster care. The method chosen is a secondary analysis of statistical data. In the study, we seek to answer the question of how the number of places, the number of children, the age composition of children, the duration of placement and the type of placement vary in Hungary and in the Northern Great Plain region. We analyse data for the years 2014, 2021 and 2023 in terms of deinstitutionalisation and present the current situation of child protection care alongside the trends in institutional restructuring in recent years. A further aim of our comparative analysis is to review the number of cases of runaways from care in recent years, assuming that they occur less frequently in foster care. For the analysis, we have primarily used data for the years 2014, 2021 and 2023. In some places, the year 2020 was analysed due to data availability. We have used publicly available data series from the KSH, as well as data recorded on the basis of individual data requests according to the KSH OSAP Form 1208, which contains data provided by child protection centres based in the respective counties.

EXCELLENT AT BEING TALENTED. RESEARCH: YOUNG GRADUATE WOMEN LIFE STARTING CHANCES OF WORKING ABROAD
17-35Views:110This study seeks to determine whether it is an exceptional talent and hard work, or courage mixed with young energy and luck, maybe all these together, that makes it possible for young adults with a fresh diploma in the 2010s to find their future in Europe’s labor market. Sample: n = 28 (22-35 years old) women. Method: semi-structured interview. Results: even though all the interviewees are unique, all the participants can be said to have a few things in common; persistent study and exceptional diligence paired with talent. There is, however, one more thing shared across 98% of interviewees in our research sample; when asked if they will come back to Hungary, they answered without hesitation that they didn’t think they ever would.

LIVING CONDITIONS OF FAMILIES RAISING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN BERETTYÓÚJFALU
7-23Views:117Bass (2004) examined the living conditions of families raising severely disabled children in the framework of national data collection. His research results reflect the circumstances nearly twenty years ago. The present study aims is to compare the research results of Bass to the present living conditions of interviewees who live in Berettyóújfalu in the 2020s, revealing the changes which have occurred in their lifestyle, family relationships, and future plans in the course of the past years. We used a qualitative interview to reveal the characteristics of the living conditions of ten families living in Berettyóújfalu. According to our research results, there are positive tendencies in the families’ social situation, relationship system or in the economic activity of the parents, but they still face hardship and drawbacks in accessing public services and ensuring their child’s long-term future.

INVESTIGATION OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND EMPATHY IN THE SIBLINGS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
59-68Views:539In recent years, more and more researchers have focused on studies of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), however, studying their siblings has gained less scientific interest. The present study focuses on siblings of children with ASD and assesses their characteristics in terms of emotional intelligence and empathy. Our sample consisted of n = 61 children in two age groups studied: 6-8 and 10-15 years old. Our experimental group consisted of n = 30 siblings of children with ASD, while our control group also consisted of n = 31 children with sibling relationships. Subjects completed two paper-and-pencil tests: the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (Children’s Version), and depending on the age group, the Emotional Intelligence Test (EIT 6-8 / EIT 10-15). We identified higher emotional intelligence and empathy in higher age groups. Among 6-8 years old siblings of children with ASD, higher scores were found to be. At the level of gender differences, girls performed more outstandingly in the tests examined. In our study, the 6-8 years old siblings of children with ASD can be characterized by a higher degree of emotional intelligence and empathy, however, we cannot draw conclusions in a representative way for the entire population.

A CASE STUDY OF TEACHING ENGLISH IN KINDERGARTENS SINCE 1989 – A NORTH-EAST HUNGARIAN CITY
127-137Views:83In our paper, we deal with the significance of learning languages at an early age. The research aimed to explore how the teaching methods employed in kindergartens have altered with the change of the political regime in 1989–90. A case-study was conducted using semi-structured interviews (n=7) with early childhood educators and language teachers in 2016/2017. Oral history method was used because no written material was produced. Based on information we received from the informants and local authorities, early English activities were available in 68% of kindergartens in the North-East Hungarian city when the research was undertaken. The number of kindergartens which organize playbased foreign language practices has been increasing since the 1990s. In the beginning, providing educational personnal was the most difficult task. Using audio-visual devices and props has been highly important, and Early Childhood Educators have been doing their best when working with children aged 4–7. However, there are differences too, due to the development of technology.

STUDENT’S ATTITUDES TOWARDS CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY
7-15Views:603Several studies have shown that integrated education has advantages in students’ social development and accepted attitude development (Meyer, Park, Grenot-Scheyer, Schwartz & Harry, 1998). The studies about the integrated education had been traced for several decades, our research is based on the CATCH (Chedoke-McMaster Attitudes Towards Children with Handicaps Scale) questionnaire (Rosenbaum, 1985) which instrument had been used in several international studies as well (Tirosh, 1997; Vignes, 2008; Godeau 2010; Bosseart, 2011; De Laat, 2013, Schwab, 2017). Our major aim is to map the adolescent youth, their attitudes towards children with special treatment. The questionnaire was based on the three-component model of attitudes proposed by Triandis (1971). This 36-item, the self-administered scale was primarily paper-based, but our adaptation is placed on the online form. The participants of the study were 7th-grade students (N=99) The overall reliability of the test was satisfactory (Cronbach-α= 0,856). In the content analysis, we found two items that were significantly negative and four items which were not significant, those leaving the KMO= 0,809 (KMO>6), therefore suitable for factor analysis. The results show that, however in our sample, these three-component factors aren’t so clear, the test is reliable. There are some subtests that call for a revision, and we will need further researches to develop our assessment tool to make it more reliable and valid.

PARENTAL FACTORS INFLUENCING SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS OF PUPILS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, KWARA STATE
35-51Views:105The purpose of this study was to evaluate how parental influences affected students' academic performance in the Kwara State capital of Ilorin. Researchers have expressed worry over students' low academic performance in school, and it is commonly acknowledged that for students to fully benefit from their education, their parents must give them their entire support. The research was a survey. All primary school teachers in the city of Ilorin made up the study's population, and a mixed method approach was used on a sample of 215 respondents (of whom 200 completed questionnaires and 15 participated in interviews). Simple random and selective sampling methods were used to choose the sample. The data was gathered via a survey called the "Parental Factors Influence School Achievements of Children Questionnaire" (PFISAPQ). The factors taken into account were gender, age, educational background, and number of years of teaching experience. Demographic information was expressed as a percentage, and the two null hypotheses were tested using the 2-way ANOVA statistical tool at the 0.05 level of significance. Mean and rank order analysis was used to analyze the research questions, and thematic analysis was then used to analyze the subsequent questions raised to support the main research questions. The results showed that, among other things, parental involvement, parental oversight, parental involvement in extracurricular activities, parental academic background, parental interest in education, and parent-child relationships are the primary factors positively affecting children's academic success. Also, significant differences existed in the parental factors influencing school achievements of pupils as expressed by primary school teachers based on gender, age, educational qualification, and years of teaching experience. It was recommended that parents should be encouraged to improve their involvement in children’s academic activities by supporting them and being actively involved in encouraging pupils to learn and achieve maximally in school.

„YOU DO IT QUIETLY, YOU HELP AND THAT'S IT.” THE EXPERIENCE OF VOLUNTEERING THROUGH A CASE EXAMPLE
89-106Views:117The largest population movement in the history of Europe since the Second World War has been the migration process of recent years, which also appeared in Hungary in 2015. The significant demographic movement has resulted in important social reactions and has developed different narratives in the civil and also in the power fields. In Hungary, the refugee issue has become a decisive topic of political discourse since 2015, and the party coalition was among the first in Europe to represent the security policy. As a result, the refugees appeared as a source of danger, so the government has rejected them. In spite of this, the grassroots volunteer groups were organized in the civil sphere, who helped the refugee masses passing through Hungary in 2015. This paper analyses a very brief but very intense manifestation of Hungarian civil society involvement as a social response to current conflicts. We will look at how the 2015 migration wave grassroots crisis management took place in Debrecen. This cultural anthropological research is based on online and offline participatory observations and semi-structured interviews and informal conversations with volunteers who helped refugees in Debrecen. This study focuses on the motivations, attitudes, social responsibility of volunteers and their voluntary activity embedded in broader socio-political conditions. The first part of the article shows the formation and operational peculiarities of solidarity philanthropic organization with refugees in Debrecen. Then follows the individual aspects of volunteering. Finally, it will be discussed the socio-political context of the civil voluntary movement, the political interpretations of refugee assistance, and its impact on volunteering. With outlining a segment of the contemporary volunteer phenomenon we can get closer to provide a framework for understanding the possibilities of the recent civil sphere.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HELPING BEHAVIOR AND DEPRESSION IN YOUNG ADULTS
7-19Views:436Background: The concept of' help-seeking behaviour' has gained attention in recent years. Early adults are at risk of developing mental disorders, thus exploring and understanding the background of help-seeking delay is very important. This study focuses on help-seeking intentions among early adults. Methods: The sample of 228 participants (mean age: 22,5 years; SD=3,29) filled out the questionnaires. After answering some demographic questions, respondents filled out the shortened version of the Beck Depression Inventory, the Gotland Male Depression Scale, and the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire (in connection with a personal problem and family problem). Results: Women reported closer potential help providers than men. Women tend to ask for help from intimate partners more frequently than men do. Participants who reported only masculine specific symptoms - which are least likely responses to depression - showed lower rates of help-seeking intentions compared with participants with no depressive symptoms or with classic symptoms of depression. Conclusion: Due to the fact that masculine specific symptoms are usually shown at the beginning of depressive episodes, and go hand in hand with maladaptive coping strategies, professionals have to consider how help-seeking intentions could be increased.

LECTURERS IN THE POST-ACADEMIC WORLD – THE FINDINGS OF A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
7-18Views:136We can find the trace of the fragmentation and deprofessionalisation of the lecturers’ jobs from the early nineties in the field of higher education research. The post-academic phase which was described by Ziman (2002) become more typical in Hungary, too. This shift can reduce the artisan way of research, make the quantification more significant and increase the frequency of teamwork. Scott (2009) highlights that this generates such an organisational environment that is full of elements of alienation and the usage of ICT tools can amplify this tendency. The aim of this article is to reveal the reflexions of the lecturers on this specific environment with the help in 31 semi-structured interviews. We recorded the interviews in ten cities of Hungary and the lecturers came from 12 disciplines. The elements of lecturers’ work were identified (research, teaching, administration, and taking part in applications) but it is hard to see successful examples to put these parts together in high quality. The patterns of these elements are different in the fragmented world of higher education and the expectations of institutions can form their significance at the same time. The barriers to academic careers in the post-academic phase became identifiable at the same time.
