The present paper is the first of a two-part pair of studies exploring the relationship between medical students, doctors, medicine and disability. The factors influencing the perception of people with disabilities in different historical periods are presented, based on different models. We also analyse the development of special education from a medical perspective. The history of medical education and the role of disability studies in the medical education years will be briefly discussed. The study provides the theoretical basis for a later survey-based analysis of the „doctors” opinions, knowledge and hospital experiences with groups of people with disabilities, based on their personal and professional responses. 

Vocational schools providing special tasks comparative analysis of its documents in regions with different economic status. The study deals with the examination of dropout reduction strategies of vocational schools in the regions of Northern Hungary, Northern Great Plains and Western Hungary. We are looking for the answer to what pedagogical methods are used by vocational schools and the teachers who teach there to reduce dropout. Our research was a document analysis, which included an overview of the pedagogical/professional programs of vocational schools based on specific criteria. We are looking for an answer to the question, how does disadvantage compensation appear in the pedagogical and professional programs of vocational schools.

In this case study anxiety is presented as antecedent and also as comorbidity. This symptom is a common experience of adolescent population. Using imaginative pictures problems manifestating in eating disorder and the changing of anxiety are addressed. This therapeutic process demonstrated the story of a 17 years-old girl step by step.  The symboltherapy can prove how non-cognitive experiences can take place in the recovery.

Our experience was that the social participation and active citizenship of young people with disabilities were low in Hungary. It was difficult to involve young people with disabilities in advocacy work at the national or EU level, because they did not recognize discrimination. The other problem was that they were not aware enough of the anti-discrimination systems that protect them. In many cases, they were skeptical about the effectiveness of anti-discrimination systems. We wished to explore and expand their knowledge of the democratic and anti-discrimination systems operating in their country (Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, and Slovakia) Central and Eastern Europe. We also wanted to increase their trust in these systems. This was one of the main pillars of the one-year Ascend program locally lead by The National Federation of Organisations of People with a Physical Disability (in short: MEOSZ) In Hungary, the main goal of the study was to examine the phenomenon of discrimination and anti-discrimination in education. In the Hungarian part of the research, we used qualitative methods (focus group interviews, mind maps) for examination.

The study intends to present in a comparative manner the research conducted at the University of Pécs and the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, which focuses on the family background, identity, school-related successes and failures of Roma students studying in tertiary education. The research was supplemented with information collected from the students of the Lippai Balázs Roma College for Advanced Studies at the University of Debrecen Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs.

According to the data of the census in 2011, the majority of people with disabilities live in private households, while a smaller proportion of them live in institutional care. The number of families raising a child with disabilities is over 62 thousand. Research results show that providing and caring for a family member with disabilities puts a particularly heavy burden on families. Social policy instruments play a significant role in reducing the burdens of the affected social group. The present study provides an overview of the system of social benefits and services which aids the everyday lives of persons with disabilities and their families caring for them. It presents the current types of social policy instruments which support persons with disabilities and their families caring for them. We investigate whether the currently available social policy instruments are able to promote the social participation and integration of people with disabilities and their families.

The development of the spatial approach of schoolchildren is an important task of the educational process, especially the practical application of the acquired competencies in real life. In the study, we briefly present the developmental tasks used in our project focusing on the development of spatial perspectives for 11-12-year-old students, which were implemented in mathematics lessons. Students solved tasks that focused on problem solving with 2D and 3D objects, analyzing these situations and manipulating with objects.

In this current paper we intend to reflect upon the historicity and social impact of Lovari language education from the perspective of social innovation. Our starting point is that the process of the acceptance of the Lovari language and its recognition in the educational palette of foreign languages is a „bottom-up” initiative that developed mainly from the work of Romani intellectuals. The focus of our interest is, among others, the following questions: Who invented it? Who supported it? Who prevented it? What language learning methods are used by people teaching Lovari language who are originally not language teachers? The „institutionalization” of language education in Lovari and the state-recognized language exam certificate that can be obtained in this language have a serious social impact, for example, it helped disadvantaged and/or Roma students to obtain a university degree. From this point of view, we also consider this phenomenon as an innovation. Besides the secondary sources, we tend to map the topic with the help of primary, qualitative data. In addition to interviews with Lovari language teachers (N=3) who have been teaching for several decades, we would like to put our own perceptions in a narrative.

Although the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is considered to be one of the best diagnostic guides of all times, there are some voices that question its practicality, functionality, and flexibility as well. Even if it has never claimed it to be perfect, it is only stated/portrayed as an organized guide or guidance for information. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is the most widely used and acknowledged, and as well as time honoured (with successive editions over 70 years) system for diagnosing mental disorders in the United States and all over the world. Since 1952, the first edition (DSM-I) and its successive time honoured editions over 70 years. This study is focussing on debates, issues and concerns related to DSM-5, which has had in effect since 2013.

This book review presents Gigi Forte's autobiographically inspired 458-page book Humanity. The heroine of the story is Emma Erős, who was born with cerebral palsy. The author of the book review, Dr. Adrienn Oravecz, who was also born with cerebral palsy, consciously chose the quotes in the review, trusting that they will make the readers think. On the one hand, the book can also be read as a developmental novel, because the reader is involved in the story from the moment of Emma's birth until the end of her university studies. On the other hand, it is also excellent as a characterization, since in the work we get to know many teacher characters and their attitude towards Emma's disability. Quoting the writer's words the main message is the following: "I hope that Emma's character can serve as an example for my young peers that they can achieve their goals even against the odds, if they believe they can." (Gigi Forte, 2021, 458. ).

The Eszterházy Károly Catholic University was the place of the "Learning and Society" Interdisciplinary International Conference on 10-12. November 2022. In this conference, 161 presentations of 331 participants from 12 countries were published their presentations in 16 sections. This event was realized in the frame of Project MEC_SZ_141117 that project has been implemented with the support provided by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Hungary from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, financed under the MEC_SZ_21 funding scheme. The present study is a short report about this conference.

The ’Creativity - Theory and Practice (2022)’ International  Interdisciplinary Online Conference was realized on December 9, 2022. At this conference, 95 presentations of 126 participants from 5 countries were published in 8 sections.
