110-123Megtekintések száma:0In Hungary, raising the standards of public health and immunization against certain infectious diseases began in the 1930s. The Royal Hungarian National Public Health Institute and the related institutional system played an outstanding role in this process. The primary mission was to diagnose and research communicable diseases. Therefore, a public health, a disinfection and infectious supplier, a malaria station and a vaccine production institute were established in Ungvár. The tasks included research, healing, counselling, defence and experimental work. Researchers at the institutes developed vaccines and new methods of diagnosis that were introduced later. As a result, the proportion of infectious diseases in the country decreased. -

41-54Megtekintések száma:0From the 1920s-1930s, studies aiming to get acquainted with the biting mosquito fauna in Hungary were intensified. The endemic incidence of malaria particularly affected the Southwestern and Northeastern parts of the country. Because of this, several malariastations were set up during the Second World War, in the Transcarpathian area: in the city of Uzhhorod (Ungvár) and Beregszász. The Uzhhorod Station started its activities in February 1940. Their duties included the education of the public, the development and application of defense methods of the time, and the medical treatment of patients. In order to achieve the natural mosquito clearance, Gambusia affinis fish were installed in the deeper brickyard pits. Due to their insecticidal effect, methyl green and naphtha derivatives were used as chemical agents. In the more affected settlements, terrain and water management works were carried out after mapping the terrain, which affected swampy and riverbed areas. The stations contributed to eradicating the problem, but it was possible to suppress the endemic presence of malaria only by the early 1950s. -

The public health institutions included the health centre, the purpose of which was to provide assistance and advice on health issues available in one place. The majority of municipalities did not have sufficient financial means to implement the necessary measures, so they needed support from the state and organizations. The health centres and the health protection work of the Green Cross were closely connected, and their activities contributed to the eradication of the social and health deficiencies of Transcarpathia. -

Fertőtlenítő-egészségőrök és tetvetlenítő járőrök tevékenysége Kárpátalján a második világháború időszakában
25-35Megtekintések száma:1In this study, I would like to describe the activities of disinfection health guards and delousing patrols. The research was based on documents kept in the Beregszász Department of the Regional State Archives of the Transcarpathian Oblast, and on the collections of the Hungarian National Archives and the National Széchényi Library. The disinfectant health guards performed a preventive, monitoring, control and executive service in public health, epidemiological, trade fair and market policing matters referred to the authority of the district. Delousing patrols often performed their duties in the affected settlements, and continued to be active – during the epidemic-free period – for prevention purposes. Despite the disinfectant work done under difficult conditions, the expected results were achieved, as shown by the reduction in the number of infections.
