A két világháború közötti Magyarország városhierarchia-vizsgálatának módszertani kérdései
5-29Megtekintések száma:1The identification of the city hierarchy of our home country raises numerous questions, which arises from the complexity of the settlement structure, as well as from the special urban development of the Carpathian Basin. The starting point has been the fact that there was a strong positive correlation between the position in urban hierarchy and the quantity (complexity) of the urban roles (Beluszky–Győri 2005.). The further aim of the study is to depict the network of cities of the interwar Hungary. First, I will study the emerging methodological issues, and I will also try to find solutions for them. The recent study published by Pál Beluszky and Róbert Győri (2005), which examines the 1910 conditions, provides a base to observe the changes in the mentioned structure until 1930. An important element of the present hierarchy study is to separate the downtown data from data of the periphery, as the classical homestead principle had already ceased to exist (Mendöl 1993., Timár 2006.). Another important methodological aspect of the study is the way my computer database is modelling and distorting the whole structure, as well as its levels. Using this method, the study of the interwar urban hierarchy can be put onto new methodological bases, which differ significantly from the earlier domestic research methods. -
23-50Megtekintések száma:1The paper aims to outline the social history of a local community, and, at the same
time, it deals with the economic and cultural processes from many aspects presented by
emphasizing the effects of the natural environment. Utilizing the benefits of
quantitative historiography and research methodology of historical geography, the goal
of the researcher was to show the different angles and points of view in his work, in
parallel with the mosaic patterned structure of the study. -
Az ungvári malária állomás tevékenysége a második világháború éveiben
41-54Megtekintések száma:0From the 1920s-1930s, studies aiming to get acquainted with the biting mosquito fauna in Hungary were intensified. The endemic incidence of malaria particularly affected the Southwestern and Northeastern parts of the country. Because of this, several malariastations were set up during the Second World War, in the Transcarpathian area: in the city of Uzhhorod (Ungvár) and Beregszász. The Uzhhorod Station started its activities in February 1940. Their duties included the education of the public, the development and application of defense methods of the time, and the medical treatment of patients. In order to achieve the natural mosquito clearance, Gambusia affinis fish were installed in the deeper brickyard pits. Due to their insecticidal effect, methyl green and naphtha derivatives were used as chemical agents. In the more affected settlements, terrain and water management works were carried out after mapping the terrain, which affected swampy and riverbed areas. The stations contributed to eradicating the problem, but it was possible to suppress the endemic presence of malaria only by the early 1950s. -

5-27Megtekintések száma:0In Hungary, it was during the era of Dualism that the historically developed names of settlements got systematized, as numerous names were in use that denoted not just one settlement. The framework of registration was defined by the 4th Law Article of 1898. In 1904, Zemplén county, while in 1905, Abaúj-Torna and Sáros counties received officially registered names, among which the rate of the changed names ranged from 55.7% (Abaúj-Torna) to 66.9% (Sáros) around the Eastern edge of Upper Hungary. In ourstudy, we aim to systematize the registered settlement names of these three counties on the basis of what methods prevail in the naming conventions, also showing on maps the real spatial distribution of those settlements. It can be verified based on the 1906 registers of Sátoraljaújhely in what rates the new settlement names had been adapted. Ultimately, it can be stated that the new settlementnames had not or very vaguely got adapted into practice. -
5-20Megtekintések száma:1Both the power struggles after Stalin’s death, and the new course of Soviet leadership in the Cold War lead to a turn in the Hungarian government, as well. The Stalinist Rákosi was succeeded by Prime Minister Imre Nagy, and his reign started off with a huge wave of reform declarations. The whole country was relieved as a result of the measures that somewhat mitigated the repression of the system and slightly raised living standards. The reforms met also in Hajdú-Bihar an almost unanimous sympathy: from the cooperative owners through the individual peasants, from the working class through the intelligentsia, every social layer in the county found the parts they liked in the government program. However, several people wanted to see more in the reforms than what they indeed meant, at some places, people saw even the complete retirement of the system behind these measures. The party apparat took the measures facilitating everyday life (the “new period”) uncomprehendingly nation-wide, thus even in Hajdú-Bihar, and therefore they moved sluggishly to realize those measures, finding them too much. When the evolution of foreign policy of the Cold War created unfavourable conditions, the Soviet government also drew back from Imre Nagy. Therefore, the reform era – that was happily welcomed and that compelled further hopes, and at some places, illusions – ended. -
Levéltári gyűjtemények Hajdú-Bihar megye szocializmus kori agrártörténetírásához
23-39Megtekintések száma:1This study focuses on the local (county) archival sources of the cooperative farms of Hajdú-Bihar county, and examines the possibilities of how to use them, besides some basic questions of the socialist era’s public- and social history. Within this, the thesis intends to enumerate the essential sources for the collective farms- and post-World War II agriculture research by highlighting the importance and utilization practice of the archival writings and collections (data warehouse, archival reference library, and oral history resources). -
Ártéri gazdálkodás a középkori Magyarországon, különös tekintettel a Közép-Tisza-vidékre – Kutatástörténeti áttekintés
5-34Megtekintések száma:1Until the beginning of the great river regulations in the mid-1840s, most of the lowland areas were temporarily or permanently covered by water due to the expansive water network of the Carpathian Basin. This natural environment served as the basis of floodplain farming or ‘fok’ agriculture from the age of the Hungarian conquest, which also determined the settlement and economic structure in the Central Tisza region. The present study analyses from the perspective of research history the conditions and role of this multifaceted farming method in the Central Tisza region that can be considered as a floodplain farming area, taking into account the most significant research results to date. Interdisciplinarity is strongly emphasized in the research of the topic: In addition to written sources, topographical, geographic, hydrographic, environmental, legal and local history studies, ethnographic and archaeological studies of the region are also indispensable to answer issues related to floodplain farming. -
Az 1878. évi nagyváradi képviselőválasztás
5-21Megtekintések száma:1The subject of this study is one episode of the parliamentary elections in Hungary in
the era of dualism. Features: one district, one mandate, open electoral system, censory
electoral law. Date and venue: 1878, Oradea. The following are indicating the cornerstones of the work: the preparations and organization of the parliamentary election,
introduction of the contestant candidates, the process and the results. On the occasion
of the parliamentary elections in every three- and then five-year period, there were social movements: the small number of those who had right to vote and the masses of
those who were trapped outside also presented themselves; they made their voices
heard. -
A XX. század első országgyűlési választása Nagyváradon
21-49Megtekintések száma:1The structure of the study is characterized by duality: it presents the whole election of 1901, and it also analyses the social distribution of the population participating in the parliamentary elections in Oradea. The appearance of the working class is one of the peculiarities of the parliamentary elections in Oradea. With the single vote they got, they did not really have a say in the competition, but they forecast their future presence in the political life of Hungary. Another characteristic feature is the outcome of the election of representatives: based onthe cast votes, the independentist Béla Barabás won against Kálmán Tisza. Based on a comparison of the list of electors and the number of votes, it became possible to examine the political behaviour and social distribution of those having the right to vote. According to the data, Tisza was supported by industrialists, a narrow spectrum of leaders in the administrative apparatus, and some part of the middle class, and he was less supported by the lower middle class. Barabás got support from the part of the middle class that was devoted to the conception of independence, and the majority of the lower middle class and peasantry. -

Határhasználat, tagosítás, tanyásodás – A téma percepciója a történeti szakirodalomban és a folyamatok bemutatása Hajdúnánás példáján
59-81Megtekintések száma:1The aim of my paper is to examine the origin and the using of lands during the 19th and 20th centuries. Moreover, focusing on the evolution of farm-steads. In this study, I apply and refer to many previous works of this research area. Furthermore, I supply the study with using maps, statistical data, and historical sources. Extensive animal breeding was determining until the middle of the 19th century, then agriculture became more significant in the second half of that century. To sum up, we could monitor the evolution of the farm-steads from the late 19th century, because it became more important in that given period. However, there is no accepted explanation to expound this phenomenon, and for that very reason, we should concentrate on analysing that topic. -
voltak.
21-36Megtekintések száma:1In my dissertation, I examine the social composition of students at Bocskai István
Grammar School between 1867 and 1917. The starting point of the research was
provided by a database based on the registrars that contained all the students attending
in the given period. After a short historical summary, I will discuss the changes in the
number of students, the school catchment area, the denominational proportion of
students, social stratification of parents, and the question of female students. -
Az új gazdasági mechanizmus bevezetése Hajdúnánáson, az MSZMP iratainak tükrében
5-22Megtekintések száma:1The study examines through the example of Hajdúnánás, a plainsfolk agricultural-like town, that due to the political lessons of the 1956 revolution and the failure of the previous economic policy, the new economic management implemented a complex reform which was unique among the Soviet bloc countries: the New Economic Mechanism. The thesis also evaluates the role of the state party's local organization in the preparation and implementation of the program. The research shows that in Hajdúnánás, just like on the state level, the reforms mostly brought advancement. This made it fundamentally possible for the agriculture to become the success industry of the Kádár era, and for the city’s industrial factories to make a big step forward from the rigid system of plan directions to a business-like management. Although the New Economic Mechanism was finally blown, its effect left a significant mark on the economy of the Kádár era, and thanks to that Hungary became one of the most livable states in the socialist camp as „the happiest barrack”. -
A Hajdúsági Múzeum és gyűjteményei
43-62Megtekintések száma:1The City Museum of Hajdúböszörmény was opened in 1924, which was a long-awaited event in the city’s cultural life. In 1949, the Museum was declared a public collection and became a scientific institute with full-fledged rights. In 1951, it picked up the Hajdúsági Museum name, and at that time, its first permanent exhibition was opened, which was followed by new ones on the expansion of the museum’s materials. The Museum took its place in the former Hajdú District Hall (which is a historical memorial since 1st January, 2012). As the largest regional museum of Hajdú-Bihar county, its primary task is to collect, preserve and process the material and spiritual values of the six „old” Haiduk towns (Hajdúböszörmény, Hajdúszoboszló, Hajdúnánás, Hajdúdorog, Hajdúhadház and Vámospércs) and to present those to the wider public. In addition, it performs a wide range museum education work, and takes part in the most important events of the museum profession, supported by civil associations and volunteers. -
Hajdúnánás periférikus területeinek kialakulása, különös tekintettel az Újházhelyre
63-78Megtekintések száma:1In this paper I am trying to present the development of the peripheral areas of Hajdúnánás, with a special attention on Újházhely, which is located on the Northern part of the town. Furthermore, the present study applies and refers to previous works focusing on this area, as well as other sources, such as ethnographic collections, maps of military surveys, manuscript maps, historical sources, aerial photographs, and interviews. One topic might still be questionable, though: whether these areas of the town could be peripheral in other aspects in that specific time interval or not, for instance, in economic or in authority aspects. This is a topic that we should focus on in further research. -
Az erdélyi arisztokrata hölgyek és a közügyek
5-19Megtekintések száma:1This study examines the activities of Transylvanian aristocratic women based on personaldocuments (correspondence) from the second half of the 18th and first half of the 19thcentury. The members of the Csáky, Bethlen, and Jósika families were erudite, they were interestedin the problems of their environment, while also sensitively paying attention to the intentions of the Viennese Court besides politics. The aristocratic ladies gained useful knowledge regarding the social life primarily during social events, showers, and travels. They could also receive important information and judgement from letters discussing the foreign travels and meetings of men in their families. The aristocratic women showed interest in newspapers, and they also played a role in ordering certain press products. In the public life, it was the society of men that undertook a leading role. The accepted fields of activities for women were charity, aiding schools and the poor. Based on their literacy and political relations, Transylvanian aristocratic women (like Kata and Rozália Csáky) emerged, who drew attention by their interest, initiative, and theirown ventures, and became the founders of emerging civil initiatives. -
Eckhardt Sándor történetírói útja a Minerva folyóirattól Bessenyei Györgyig
48-57Megtekintések száma:7A tanulmány Eckhardt Sándor történetírói pályájának a Minerva folyóirathoz köthető szakaszát
vizsgálja az 1920-as évek első felében.
7-19Megtekintések száma:1The historian profession has, by now, clarified that the so-called Horthy-regime was an
authoritarian political structure where one-party dominance prevailed but other political
trends could also organize themselves with relative freedom.
One of the most interesting feature of this system was the operation of the limited
parliamentary system, which was provided by the suffrage between 1922 and 1938.
Until 1938/39, all constituencies of Bihar county voted openly, just like in the county
seat town, Berettyóújfalu. The secret ballot was restored in 1938 (1938th XIX. Tc.) and
the last election of the era was held based on this in May 1939. Primarily due to the
open voting, Bihar was considered a ruling party side county, although during the
1930’s, some opposition political movements such as the support of Smallholders and
the far-right (Nazi) party were also in rise here, just like in many other counties of the
Great Plain region. -
Adalékok a szélsőjobboldal Bihar vármegyei történetéhez
83-96Megtekintések száma:1We know very little about the history of the extreme right in Bihar, the literature has never dealt with it, just like what the case was with other areas. Bihar county never belonged to the nests of the extreme right (unlike Zala, Szabolcs, or the not very far-off city of Debrecen). Nevertheless, three important events can be emphasized. One is that the main delegate of the Scythe Cross movement was from Bihar and wanted to clear theground for their ’military’ putsch in Bihar. The second event was that here was the first time that a candidate with a National Socialist programme ran for office at an interim parliamentary election. And last, the last open election of the Hungarian history took place here: it was an interim election in 1939, less than 4 months before the first and at the same time last secret parliamentary election of the era, at which one of the candidates was a National Socialist candidate. I aim to deal with these topics, enumerating a couple of pieces of data first as an introduction about the extreme right embedded nature of the county. Next, I introduce the sued Lajos Hatvani, who lived through the lawsuits against scythe crossers as the mainaccused person. In the third section, I review the interim elections of September 1933 and 2nd February 1939. In 1933, Zoltán Böszörmény himself, the leader of the scythe crossers, ran inefficiently, and in 1939, there were two challengers of the ruling party: a yeoman and an arrow-crosser also ran. The day of the latter election, as it turns out from the press of the period, was rather eventful, and it provides a great report on the political arrangement of the Horthy Era. -
19-37Megtekintések száma:1Many of the pastors and teachers of the Lutheran Slovak congregation, who comprised
more than 2/3 of the population of the rebuilt Nyíregyháza, studied in Eperjes, from
where they brought with themselves not only knowledge, but life philosophy and perspective, as well. Some of the local children also became Eperjes students.
Mostly urban intellectuals and craftsmen carrying different functions enrolled their sons
into the College, which also was a Lutheran-Reformed intellectual-social centre. They
gained the lower and higher level knowledge, and made acquaintances with the children
of the noble families of the region, which meant fruitful opportunities for the city for
later times, as those children later became influential potentates in administration, politics, and social life. The inhabitants of Nyíregyháza considered the College of Eperjes their own, which
they thought of as a professional guide, a helper of their education, therefore they supported it with money, as well as farm produce. -
Bihari történet a Dunántúlról
40-56Megtekintések száma:1A joint episode of a town in Hajdú-Bihar County and a village in Tolna county was written in Hungarian history of the 20th century. The politicians of the post-war coalition period began to write the story, the completion of which was very much urged by the expectations of the masses, the irresponsible promise of a carefree new life, a feverish campaign, and perhaps a compulsion resulting from being a war loser. In the history of Derecske and Györköny, the common chapter was forced by internal migration processes that started in 1945 resulting from the land reform and the relocation of the Hungarian Germans in close connection with it. I have tried to explore the events so that we could remember, together with the people of the Tiszántúl Region, to what had happened. In quest of finding the truth, I have called not only the press articles of the time and literature for help, but also the memories of those who directly lived through the events. The bitter consequences of the political decisions of that time were shared by settled Hungarians and indigenous Germans. -
Csobán Endre 1929-es angliai útinaplójának részlete
25-42Megtekintések száma:1The story of Endre Csobán's trip to England is contained in three small-format pocketbooks, which are stored in The Hungarian National Archives Hajdú-Bihar County Archives. Csobán traveled to London to get acquainted with and learn the essential modern techniques of repairing diplomas in the National Archives of Britain, in the Public Record Office. The passage published here is from the first notebook. He recorded his journey starting from the preparations and the events that happened to him between 27 July 1929 and 16 August 1929 in a 16.5 x 10.5 cm, greenish-brown, cloth-bound, lined booklet. Endre Csobán's diaries are important contemporary documents that provide cultural history, political and literary additives. Moreover, they are also valuable from the point of view of researching and writing personal history, and generally, from the historical psychology side. The the finely toned image of the inner life of the writer unfolds from the entries which portray a man who is receptive about and responsive to the things of the world. -
22-45Megtekintések száma:1In her study, the author presents the major turning points and several Bihar connections of the voluntary ethnographic collection in Hungary. In recent years, several pieces of history of science research works have been published on certain related topics and periods, and we can use these to briefly outline the historical development and institutionalization of voluntary collections. Such major movements and organizations were the following: at the beginning of the 20th century, the Hungarian class of Folklore Fellows; after World War II, the Landscape and Folklore Research; from 1952, the National Ethnographic and Linguistic Collection Tender; from 1968, the Native Land-Presenter Movement; also from 1990, the National Heritage Association; and finally, from 2013, the Tradition Ethnography Collection Tender. With regards to the Hajdú-Bihar County, mention the Cultural Movement ‘Korunk Valósága’ (The Reality of our Time) needs to be mentioned, which had been operating since 1969; and the Cultural Movement from Hortobágy to Sárrét since 1976, as well as the Hajdú-Bihar County and Debrecen Native Land-Presenter Association, which has been operating since 1991. -
Beszámoló a Hajdú-Bihar Vármegyei Levéltári Napokról
70-73Megtekintések száma:12Az 53. Hajdú-Bihar Vármegyei Levéltári Napokat 2026. május 19–20-án rendezték
meg Debrecenben. Az eseményt az MNL Hajdú-Bihar Vármegyei Levéltára, valamint a
Debreceni Egyetem Egyetemi és Nemzeti Könyvtára szervezte. A rendezvény központi
témája a levéltári innovációk, a mesterséges intelligencia alkalmazása, valamint a kvantitatív
történetírás új lehetőségei voltak, de a történelem anyagiságának tapasztalata is viszsza-
visszatérő eleme volt az előadásoknak.
