  • CAN THE PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICE OF THE PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS REMOVE THE SOCIAL PREJUDICE TOWARDS THE PUPILS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS? A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ON THE ATTITUDE TOWARDS BEHAVIORAL MANAGEMENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOL

    The aim of the study is to highlight the attitude of the students (N=72) from Pedagogy of Primary and Preschool Education Program (pre-service teacher), from first and third years of study, related to how they want, as future teachers, to develop pupils’ learning skills in the inclusive classroom by adopting certain behavioral management of pupils with special needs. The working tool used is the Behavior and Instructional Management Scale, developed by Martin and Sass (2010). The comparative analysis of the results obtained according to the year of study captures the existence of statistically significant differences in the aspect of the management of the behavior in the classroom, both in traditional and inclusive classes, during the lessons, with higher averages for the pre-service teachers of 3rd year. Also, pre-service teachers from the 3rd year of study have a higher level of expectations for implementing the rules in school activities with pupils with special needs, compared to the pre-service teachers of the 1st year, which draws attention to the importance of pedagogical practical stage in primary school.

     

  • COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BODY TYPE INDEXES AND MOTORIC ABILITIES OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS (SEN) AND MAINSTREAM STUDENTS BY NETFIT SYSTEM

    Students with special educational needs (SEN) are participants of the Hungarian educational system. The goal of this study is to compare the body type indexes and motoric abilities of SEN students and mainstream students. Sample: n = 160 persons (80 SEN students and 80 mainstream students) from 1-8 grades of elementary school. Method: the survey of body type indexes and motoric abilities physical skills was based on the Hungarian NETFIT system (NETFIT is a Hungarian acronym of the National Unitary Student Fitness Test). Results: much more emphasis should be given to physical education lessons of SEN students because their physique indicators and motoric performances are significantly worse than mainstream pupils’.

    The student expectation in university is one of the crucial issues a university must address. The anticipation of students had a connection with students' satisfaction and engagement in higher education. This study was qualitative research, specifically in mind mapping analysis. The instrument was two forms of mind mapping by students (before and after coming to Hungary). This study’s participants were nine international students who currently study in Hungary. It was found that international students' mind mapping, type of mind mapping, and outline of general mind mapping of students’ expectations had similarities and differences.

  • FREE- AND VIRTUAL SOUND FIELD LOCALIZATION TASKS: COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SIGHTED AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS

    The present study focuses on the examination of sound localization abilities of sighted and visually impaired persons. Sample: n = 59 (50 sighted and 9 visually impaired) persons, and 30 sighted persons. Method: we used Leybold 58707 piezo sound source in an anechoic room, and in the case of simulation of a virtual sound field, we used the Alice software in order to examine sound localization. Result: there is no significant difference between sound localization achievements of sighted and visually impaired persons in the free sound field. The localization uncertainty is higher when we apply a virtual reality simulator.

  • Situation Picture of Hungarian of the Possibilities of Alternative Care, with Particular Regard to Children's Home and Foster Parent Placement

    In this study, we compare institutional and foster care. The method chosen is a secondary analysis of statistical data. In the study, we seek to answer the question of how the number of places, the number of children, the age composition of children, the duration of placement and the type of placement vary in Hungary and in the Northern Great Plain region.  We analyse data for the years 2014, 2021 and 2023 in terms of deinstitutionalisation and present the current situation of child protection care alongside the trends in institutional restructuring in recent years. A further aim of our comparative analysis is to review the number of cases of runaways from care in recent years, assuming that they occur less frequently in foster care. For the analysis, we have primarily used data for the years 2014, 2021 and 2023. In some places, the year 2020 was analysed due to data availability.  We have used publicly available data series from the KSH, as well as data recorded on the basis of individual data requests according to the KSH OSAP Form 1208, which contains data provided by child protection centres based in the respective counties.

    Vocational schools providing special tasks comparative analysis of its documents in regions with different economic status. The study deals with the examination of dropout reduction strategies of vocational schools in the regions of Northern Hungary, Northern Great Plains and Western Hungary. We are looking for the answer to what pedagogical methods are used by vocational schools and the teachers who teach there to reduce dropout. Our research was a document analysis, which included an overview of the pedagogical/professional programs of vocational schools based on specific criteria. We are looking for an answer to the question, how does disadvantage compensation appear in the pedagogical and professional programs of vocational schools.

    The study intends to present in a comparative manner the research conducted at the University of Pécs and the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, which focuses on the family background, identity, school-related successes and failures of Roma students studying in tertiary education. The research was supplemented with information collected from the students of the Lippai Balázs Roma College for Advanced Studies at the University of Debrecen Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs.

  • DEVELOPMENTAL RESULTS OF KINDERGARTEN AGE CHILDREN WITH PHYSICAL HANDICAPS DURING CONDUCTIVE EDUCATION

    Conductive education (CE), a method suitable for habilitating/rehabilitating individuals with motor disorders caused by damage to the central nervous system has now become known all over the world. The practice has proved its effectiveness and thus it has been established outside Hungary as well. Several international studies have examined the effectiveness of CE (Rochel and Weber, 1992; Bairstow, 1993; Reddihough, 1998; Blank and von Voss, 1996–2001). Research has revealed that in order to exactly measure the performances of people with disabilities we need rather complex measurement tools. Thus it has become necessary to elaborate a measurement tool that is suitable for measuring changes in the performances of individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) objectively and at the same time reflect the approach of CE.  One of the fundamental aims of the criteria referred to by the author as “Criteria for monitoring children with cp under conductive education” (CMCP) was to clearly specify the object of observation and to render the observation of its elements easier. With the help of the CMCP observations of children’s condition and development can be registered in 54 main categories. Moreover, the amount of assistance can be monitored and registered in 42 subcategories and the time factor in a further 41 subcategories while studying motor actions and activities. Thus after completing the monitoring criteria altogether 137 different findings will be available on every child, providing the opportunity of graphic depiction as well. Those applying the criteria will be able to register comprehensive, complex observations. Monitoring can be effected in the natural group environment without removing the children from their usual surroundings.  The study presents a comparative analysis of 67 children.

  • COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF ACTIVE AND PASSIVE RECREATIONAL CONSUMPTION HABITS OF DISABLED CHILDREN LIVING IN THE NORTHERN GREAT PLAIN REGION

    In our research, we studied the leisure habits of students with disabilities (8-18 years, n = 289) living in the North Great Plain region using a questionnaire method. The aim of the research was to examine the leisure habits of children with disabilities in the region, their main characteristics, and their recreational attitudes. Our goal was also the gender test to see whether there was a significant difference between the sexes and how this correlated with the results of the study of leisure habits in the wild. We sought to find out what the most common leisure time activities for general and high school students with disabilities are, how does this affect genders? What is their attitude towards spending time on leisure? What are their sporting habits and sporting consumption? We have found that the recreational consumption of young people with disabilities is similar to the results of surveys carried among normal children as passive leisure time is dominant (listening to music, watching TV). In girls' leisure time, the preference for listening and reading is more dominant while watching TV, especially popular sports channels are more characteristic of boys. For leisure-time activities, staying fit, trying out new things, and community experience is crucial for young people with disabilities. Recreational sports prove to be popular, as more than 50% of both girls and boys say they are engaged in recreational sports.

  • COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF YOUTH'S HEALTH-RISK LIFESTYLE IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF THEIR CULTURAL DIFFERENCES

    Health-related, primarily lifestyle-associated activities are increasingly emphasized in the lives of young people and their cultural communities. The aim of the research is to explore behavioral strategies that maintain health and to understand those societies and the environmental factors that predispose risk behaviors. The questionnaire includes items about demographics, lifestyle, family and school environment, and health risk factors. Participants are 280 youngsters from the 11-12th graders of Târgu-Mureş and Eger. The study was conducted in February 2011 on a stratified sample using a self-completed questionnaire method. Our results showed significant differences between the two groups in terms of life satisfaction, frequency of alcohol consumption, but also in terms of family support, school acceptance, and teachers' attitudes toward students. We found gender differences in health-related self-esteem, subjective body image, body weight control, frequency, and amount of alcohol consumption, but also in school attitudes, time spent with friends.
