A legrégebbi fennmaradt bihari toronyóra története, avagy a belényesi óraper
5-23Megtekintések száma:1The paper discusses the history of the oldest surviving church tower clock of Bihar county. Installed in 1757, the clockwork is one of the earliest products of the Aszalai workshop of Debrecen. The specialty of its history stands in the fact that it used to be the subject of a decade of controversy, even law suit, surrounding the conflicts related to its repairs and maintenance between the Roman Catholic parish and the Calvinist-dominant city administration. -
Fellélegzés és illúziók – Nagy Imre első miniszterelnökségének visszhangja Hajdú-Biharban az MDP iratainak tükrében
5-20Megtekintések száma:1Both the power struggles after Stalin’s death, and the new course of Soviet leadership in the Cold War lead to a turn in the Hungarian government, as well. The Stalinist Rákosi was succeeded by Prime Minister Imre Nagy, and his reign started off with a huge wave of reform declarations. The whole country was relieved as a result of the measures that somewhat mitigated the repression of the system and slightly raised living standards. The reforms met also in Hajdú-Bihar an almost unanimous sympathy: from the cooperative owners through the individual peasants, from the working class through the intelligentsia, every social layer in the county found the parts they liked in the government program. However, several people wanted to see more in the reforms than what they indeed meant, at some places, people saw even the complete retirement of the system behind these measures. The party apparat took the measures facilitating everyday life (the “new period”) uncomprehendingly nation-wide, thus even in Hajdú-Bihar, and therefore they moved sluggishly to realize those measures, finding them too much. When the evolution of foreign policy of the Cold War created unfavourable conditions, the Soviet government also drew back from Imre Nagy. Therefore, the reform era – that was happily welcomed and that compelled further hopes, and at some places, illusions – ended. -
„a hol a borból pénzelnek az emberek” A hegyközszentimrei református eklézsia és a bor kapcsolata a 19. század első felében
5-22Megtekintések száma:1Our study explores the multifaceted relationship between the material life of the local viticulture/wine growing in the historical wine region of Érmellék (and Berettyó) and the Reformed parish of Hegyközszentimre. In particular, an examination of the surviving data sets of guardian accounts shed light on the primary, and even almost exclusive, role of wine in church taxation as well as in the salaries of contemporary pastors, school rectors, and girls’ teachers, not least the ecclesia’s own farming. -

A kádári egyházpolitika Biharban
97-115Megtekintések száma:1The supremacy of the church traditionally spread out to the whole life of people till the end of World War II. However, this was straight against the atheist views of the communist leadership that was gradually gaining power after 1945, so the churches like the ’Clerical Reaction’ became the number one ideological rivals and pursued by all means their fight off. The proceedings taking place in several arenas started off with the elimination of the economic power of the churches, the fighting off of their public and political acts and of their educational position. The complete bled out of the denominations continued with the formation of one priestpastor layer that was mostly loyal to and dependent on the realm, until the forceful turn to irreligiousness, which the original aim was, took place in the mid-70s. In the present study, we show the local manifestations of this event in Bihar, comparing them via several examples with country-wide events. -
„lábatlan fahíd” felállításának tervezete Mezőtelegden (Gondolatok és új adatok a fából készült ívhidak hazai történetéhez)
20-46Megtekintések száma:1In 1812, the need arose to build a new bridge on the main road leading from Nagyvárad to Transylvania, near Mezőtelegd. The construction of the structure crossing the Sebes-Körös River was postponed for years, and the plans for the wooden arch bridge, which was considered a novelty and a special feature at the time, were delayed due to the cumbersome approval process and uncertainties surrounding its feasibility -
Szatmár és Várad kapcsolata az 1613. évi Báthory–Bethlen fejedelemváltás idején
63-69Megtekintések száma:01613 is an important date both in the history of the Royal Hungary and of the Principality of Transylvania. In this year, the Turks put an end to the reckless and inordinate political career of Gábor Báthory, helping his former devotee, Gábor Bethlen, into the throne of Transylvania. With this, a long blooming started in the life of the Principality. The centre of Bihar county, the castle of Várad played an important strategical role already during the 15-Year War, Várad meant the gate to Transylvania. The Royal Hungary put efforts into getting the castle back – in vain – even after the death of Gábor Báthory. András Nagylucsei Dóczy received order for the turning over of Várad first as a royal commissioner, and then as the chief of the Castle of Szatmár. In my study, I present the relationship of the two castles in the closing days of the principality of Gábor Báthory based on the extensive correspondence of the chief of Szatmár. -
Az új gazdasági mechanizmus bevezetése Hajdúnánáson, az MSZMP iratainak tükrében
5-22Megtekintések száma:1The study examines through the example of Hajdúnánás, a plainsfolk agricultural-like town, that due to the political lessons of the 1956 revolution and the failure of the previous economic policy, the new economic management implemented a complex reform which was unique among the Soviet bloc countries: the New Economic Mechanism. The thesis also evaluates the role of the state party's local organization in the preparation and implementation of the program. The research shows that in Hajdúnánás, just like on the state level, the reforms mostly brought advancement. This made it fundamentally possible for the agriculture to become the success industry of the Kádár era, and for the city’s industrial factories to make a big step forward from the rigid system of plan directions to a business-like management. Although the New Economic Mechanism was finally blown, its effect left a significant mark on the economy of the Kádár era, and thanks to that Hungary became one of the most livable states in the socialist camp as „the happiest barrack”. -
A szalacsi Négylyukú híd építéstörténete

One of the earliest of these is the Four-Hole Bridge located in the vicinity of Szalacs village (Sălacea), in present-day Romania. Our study explores the construction history of this still-standing structure based on archival data. -
A bihari térség templomainak régi toronyóráira és mestereikre vonatkozó újabb adatok. Kutatási eredmények összegzése
5-62Megtekintések száma:1This study presents recent data on old church tower clocks – from the 18th-19th century – and their master craftsmen in the Bihar region, as well as a summary of the results of our research in this topic. We recorded data or a series of data on our field trips, as well as on the basis of archival sources, relating to altogether 62 clockworks, and/or identified still existing clockworks and artefacts. Of these, 49 could be linked to a master-locksmith or workshop, which is the main benefit of our research. Most of the surviving artefacts, as well as the work of some of their masters, were largely unknown to the sparse literature on the topic. Significant additions have been made, first of all, to the work of the locksmiths of Nagyvárad (today Oradea – Romania) and Debrecen, as well as of Pankota (today Pâncota – Romania) and Nagykároly (today Carei – Romania). -
Tettek és ítéletek: hatósági személyek szerepe a mátészalkai gettóban
41-53Megtekintések száma:0The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive picture of the violent acts committed by authority figures in the Mátészalka ghetto through the personal experiences of survivors and the consequences of their actions. This examination is facilitated by the judgments made during the people's court cases against individuals such as police commander József Cseri, gendarmerie sergeant András Bernáth, and corporal Endre Papp, whose receptions in society were quite ambivalent due to the role of the Jewish community in the justice system
