  • Effect of Two Instructional (Project And Inquiry ) Strategies on Students’ Achievement in Selected Biological Abstract Concepts

    The purpose of this study was to ascertain how two instructional strategies—project and inquiry—affect students' mastery of particular abstract biological concepts. The study used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. 120 SS II Biology students were chosen at random from six coeducational schools located in two Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state of Kwara. Treatment groups were assigned to participants at random. The Biology Student Achievement Test (r=0.88) and the Teachers' Instructional Guide on Project and Inquiry Strategies were the instruments utilised. Two theories were developed and put to the test at the significance level of 0.05. The intervention had a significant main effect on students' achievement on a subset of selected biological abstract concepts (F(2, 107) =12.061; p<0.05, partial η2 = 0.184), according to an analysis of covariance conducted on the gathered data. The students in the Conventional Strategy (CS) control group have the lowest adjusted mean achievement values (x ̅ = 17.20), whereas the students in the Project Strategy (PS) treatment group 1 have the highest adjusted mean achievement values (x ̅ = 23.21). It is indicated that PS > IS > CS is the order. The mean growth in accomplishment values for male students was higher at 21.94, compared to 17.13 for female students. Project and inquiry methodologies should be implemented in order to raise students' accomplishment in biology's abstract concepts, according to the findings.

    In the Hungarian language, there are more concepts in connection with career guidance, but their meaning and relation with each other sometimes seem not clear enough. The present paper: a)  highlights that their hits numbers are different in the cases of seeking in Google, MATARKA, and EPA databases too, b) tries to find the causes of its different hits numbers, c) suggests a possible solution for systematizing of these concepts.

  • DIDACTIC GAMES TO DEVELOP MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN KINDERGARTEN

    Children with developmental disorders do not acquire the same way as do children with an age-appropriate intellectual level, so it needs to be carefully chosen what kind of methods to use and in what way to teach the children. For preschool children, the most efficient and simplest method of teaching mathematics is a playful approach to learning activities. The purpose of this work was to create a set of materials to support the teaching and learning of mathematical concepts for preschool-age children with special needs. There were created learning materials such as Train, Shelves, Long and short, Butterflies and cars, Wide and narrow road, and board game Owls. All the learning materials, including a board game, are laminated and most of them are provided with velcro strips to stick different parts. All the learning materials are tested on preschool-age children and asked specialists and teachers, who work with children with special needs, to give their expert evaluation. Learning materials support teaching mathematical concepts for preschool-age children with special needs.

  • Challenges of Guidance and Counselling Students During Practicum Exercise

    Practicum is a platform designed for counsellors-in-training to assist them to become full professional counsellors. Practicum exercise is one of the major processes for gaining mastery of key concepts in counselling. The detached between theory and practice is a major challenge. This research, therefore focused on the challenges of guidance and counselling students in University of Ilorin during practicum. The descriptive study was adopted in this study. The researcher employed the use of simple random technique to select 220 undergraduate students in the Department of Counsellor Education University of Ilorin. The developed questionnaire was titled “Challenges of Practicum Exercise Questionnaire (CPEQ)”. This was adopted to gather information from the respondents. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.70.  The demographic data were analyzed using percentages. Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The obtained result showed that lack of adequate facilities for practicum exercise, inadequate mastery of counselling skills and inability to synthesize concepts during presentation are the major challenges. All the hypotheses were accepted. Based on these findings, it was recommended that students in training should constantly engage in micro counselling in the laboratory, this will assist them to gain mastery of counselling procedures and thereby overcome challenges on the field.   

  • Crafting the commons: an ethnography on collectivity and identity in action

    Studies on social movements underwent a prominent shift from the rigid division between the ‘personal’ and the ‘political’ into the feminist perspective from the renowned concept and slogan popularised by second-wave feminism in the 60s’ and 70s’ “the personal is political”, that served and was used by many movements of the time. This shift aimed to illuminate the strong link between these concepts focusing on lifestyle and the effects on culture. Following the concept of prefigurative politics (Boggs, 1997), where the embodiment of the different forms of socialties and human experiences is the ultimate goal within the political practice of a movement, this paper is based on an ethnographic case study that examines a network of five organised communities – Toestand (Brussels, Belgium), Termokiss (Prishtina, Kosova), Space Tetova (Tetova, North Macedonia), DKC Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Pomorandza (Podgorica, Montenegro). The findings show how members of these communities, who besides their respective communities are part of a joint network, engage in lifestyle choices and adopt cooperative practices as acts of resistance and transformation, challenging contemporary capitalist values and their surrounding sociocultural realities.
