Launched on January 1, 2014, ‘Új Nézőpont’ (New Perspective) is the quarterly online journal of the Hajdú-Bihar County and Debrecen Local History Association. It serves as the first fully electronic professional forum—bridging various academic disciplines—dedicated to research on the past of its specific region (comprising the Hajdú towns of Szabolcs, the Hajdú District, Hajdú-Bihar County and its predecessors, Debrecen, the Tiszántúl region, as well as the former counties of Partium and Transcarpathia). The journal aims to enrich the body of cultural-historical knowledge regarding this historical-geographical area and seeks to elevate research to an interdisciplinary level by providing a platform for the latest findings across all academic fields.

It offers researchers—both within Hungary and abroad—who study the aforementioned administrative units and regions the opportunity to publish their scholarly work in English alongside Hungarian. The editorial team and board intend for the journal to serve as a reference point for local history research, in addition to examining events of regional (and national) significance. In addition to publications aimed at engaging the scholarly community in professional dialogue (such as studies, workshop papers, source editions, and data collections)—and recognizing the importance of public outreach, the preservation and enrichment of local cultural heritage, and the value of local patriotism (extending beyond the local level)—the journal provides a platform in its "Local History Writings" section for papers covering the fields of local history and heritage studies. It also offers space for reviews of academic literature, with a particular focus on the critical assessment of volumes dedicated to local history.

In accordance with the principles of scholarly publishing, the journal publishes manuscripts that have undergone peer review by qualified educators and researchers and have received a favorable recommendation. Furthermore, *Új Nézőpont* is listed on the public register maintained by the Committee on Historical Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS)—specifically under the Section of Philosophy and Historical Sciences—for use in doctoral procedures; additionally, as part of the program for archiving scientific periodicals associated with the HAS, the journal’s issues have been deposited in the REAL-J collection of the REAL repository.
