Az egyetemi élet átolitizálódásának megnyilvánulása 1939-ben Debrecenben – hallgatói feljelentés Tankó Béla ellen és Hóman Bálint levele
117-120Views:189The Appearance of the Politicization of the University Life in Debrecen in 1939. A student’s Accusation against Béla Tankó and Bálint Hóman’s response. A very special source of the history of the Hungarian higher education and of the history of the University of Debrecen that accusation which was made in the autumn of 1939 by a student. This short and nameless letter was an accusation against professor Béla Tankó who had taken a note about the German origin of Bálint Hóman who was the Secretary of Religion and Public Education at that time. One of the students who was the member of the Árpád Comradeship Association wrote a short and modest letter to Hóman about it. This was a clear sign of the radicalization and the politicization of the whole society and of the life in the Hungarian universities. Also had been found the response of Bálint Hóman who sent back this accusation to Béla Tankó with a short letter in which he interpreted this as a wrong deliver. This unpleasant case had been solved by Hóman this way, but the radicalization of the students of the universities and the devaluation of the Hungarian political culture continued.

A strange Oath of the Students of Debrecen. The Promise that the Roommates made each other in the Room 17 of the István Tisza Internátus, in December 15, 1925
157-161Views:157It’s a very rare source of the scientific research in history that prove a promise that some people made for each other. It has got more importance if this is an oath of some roommates. Five students in Debrecen, who have lived their lives in the same dormitory room in the István Tisza Internate for years made a promise to each other in December 15, 1925. In writing they vowed that they will meet in Budapest in the Hotel Gellért on the day of Pentecost 6 years later. The text of the oath is an exact reflection of the age and of the „neo-baroque” society of the twenties. We don’t know that the meeting in 1931 could be realized or not, but we can suppose that could be, based on the strong friendship of the roommates. This strange oath is a very rare and valuable source of the students’ life between the two Wold Wars.

BÉLA FORNET, PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE THE RECTOR MAGNIFICUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DEBRECEN DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 1947/48
4-13Views:216Dr. Béla Fornet is a school-creating professor at the University of Debrecen who, through his directness, created an intimate atmosphere not only in his clinic, but also in the University Council during the rector's term. According to the theological dean István Török, "recognizing the need for social transformation during his rector's activity, he made greater concessions than the predecessor of any rector at the expense of previous inherited forms." As a result of his foresight and directness, in addition to the trust of the patients, he enjoyed the confidence of both the students and the professors during his rector's activities. In recognition of his outstanding professional work, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Debrecen established the Béla Fornet Commemorative Medal. In this way, the example of a determining school-creating professor in terms of development of the Faculty of Medicine, will help to address the challenges of today by setting an example for the present generation.

A Tisza István-Tudományegyetem karainak beszámoló jelentései az 1944/45. tanévről
170-186Views:112The Report s of the Faculties of the Academic Year of 1944–1945. Indubitably, the most difficult period in the history of the University of Debrecen was the last year of World War Two. The relatively undisturbed operation of the institution before the autumn of 1944 soon became impossible to maintain. The approaching battle-front and the subsequent entry of the Soviet troops resulted in the departure of a large segment of the professorial faculty. Those who stayed behind tried to maintain a semblance of order through emergency measures.Wartime damage, the utilization of the building facilities for other purposes, and teacher shortage posed almost impossible problems to those who felt responsible for making the university function. The documents that are made available here—the reports of the faculties prepared in the spring of 1945—make it clear what a superhuman struggle was carried on to maintain the operation of the university for almost a year.

The BOARD OF THE HUNGARIAN HERALDIC AND GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY.
191-206Views:203In 1883, a group of Hungarian historians led by Baron Béla Radvánszky founded the Hungarian Heraldic and Genealogical Society, which brought together scholars of the auxiliary historical sciences (mainly family history, heraldry, sealology). Their journal, Turul, was published several times a year. The society and its management consisted of a few scholars, patrons of the arts, amateur family historians and archivists. After the Second World War, political attacks and lack of funds made it impossible to survive and it ceased to exist at the beginning of 1951. Family history and heraldry became a forbidden science for decades under the communist regime. This study provides up-to-date details of the society’s management, based largely on the minutes of its general meetings published in the journal.

Az 1944. április 11–12-én a Vallás- és Közoktatásügyi Minisztériumban tartott rendkívüli értekezlet debreceni emlékeztetője
115-119Views:113The Debrecen Memo of an Extrordinary Meeting Convened at the Ministry of Religion and Public Education on April 11–12, 1944. In March, 1944, the German military occupation of Hungary plunged the country into a difficult situation, affecting among other things the Ministry of Religion and Public Education responsible for the institutions of higher education. Minister Jenő Szinyei Merse convened a twoday meeting for April 11 and 12, for the purposes of analysing the situation that evolved and for making
the required decisions. The source material registers the proceedings of this meeting. President János Bognár of Debrecen’s István Tisza University probably had the text copied immediately after he had returned from the capital. The memo consists of twenty-five long and short items and these are about taking sundry measures, mainly pertaining to the simplification of administration for the purposes of an early closure of the academic year and a more severe interpretation of the Jewish laws. -

Starting in 1911, he became college professor of history at the Arts Academy of the Debrecen Protestant College, then from 1914 until his retirement in 1942 he served as professor of Hungarian history of the newly established University of Debrecen. He served as dean several times and he was appointed Rector of the University in the academic year of 1932-1933. He is the author of work on the last Hungarian uprising of noblemen as well as on the history of the Székely people. After the the Second World War, owing to his previous political activism, he was imprisoned and subsequently he lived in the circle of his family, isolated from professional activity.

41-46Views:252FERENC ORSÓS AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION. he study connected to the rector’s proile aims to introduce the professor of forensic medicine in a diferent light than he is known for his political and scientiic career. It rather focuses on the unknown side of this outstanding man: a natural scientist nurtuting an unquenchable devotion to trees and forests. As the supervisor of the clinical grounds, he fought in numerous occasions with the head gardener and the Financial Department of the university for saving each tree, especially during the felling at the construction of the Main Building. He also did his best to impede the proliferation of cats on the grounds, since the cats were to blame for the dangerously decreasing number of songbirds.

THE OFFICIALS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DEBRECEN BETWEEN 1914 AND 1950.
146-174Views:126The compilation of basic data, lists of teachers and officials is essential for the history of the University of Debrecen. As one of the „by-products” of the publication prepared for the centenary of the University of Debrecen, wasa day-by-day list of university officials compiled. As the archives from 1914 to 1950 were extensively scrapped in the 1950s, it is not always possible to determine the dates of the officials' activities from the surviving archives. In any case, the archontology that has been drawn up taking these into account includes the officials of the Rector’s Office, the Dean’s Offices, the Quaestura („Study Office”), the Economic Office (later the Economic Directorate) and other service institutions between the dates indicated above. The University Library staff have already appeared elsewhere.
