The Inauguration and Repeated Inauguration of the Statue of István Tisza in Debrecen: 1926 and 2000. Between 1921 and 1945, the name-giver of the University of Debrecen was István Tisza. Tisza’s personality and political aura were bound up with Debrecen, and he played a decisive role in the establishment of the university. Soon after his death (1918) a sort of Tisza cult began to take shape in Debrecen and he became not only a university name-giver; he was also given a statue on the campus of the university. With
the aid of contemporaneous documents and photoes, the present survey highlights the events of the 1926 inauguration celebration of the statue, then follows up its fate from the Second World War up to the year 2000, i.e. from the toppling of the statue to its repeated inauguration.

It is divided between public and private higher educational sectors. This paper aims to identify tensions and  difficulties arised by the higher educational expansion in the french higher educational system. It focuses specifically on the increase in the number of the student and the trends of the expansion after the second world war up to 1990. The introduction of the Bologna system was followed by a large wave of national and foreign students willing to enroll French universities. The significant rise in the number of students led to manifold infrastructural problems. However, the transition from the elit to the mass education not only rised problems but also generated solutions. Seen in this light and based on the rate of enrollment and gender data this study intends to highlight techniques of problem solving in higher educational setting.

In the Footsteps of Kolozsvár. Documents on Students Work at the University of Debrecen and its Connection with the University of Kolozsvár. It’s a well-known historical fact that the foundation of the students’ canteen in the University of Debrecen was one of the first steps to establish a welfare organization in a hope to support hundreds of students in their studies between the two World Wars in Debrecen. Also widely known that under the guidance of Nándor Láng this students’ canteen gained prosperity. At the
same time, far less attention has been given to networks and relations in higher education underpinning this initiative. Láng asked assistance and information from the University of Kolozsvár which was the only provincial university in Hungary. The letter of Béla Posta which was written to Nándor Láng in December 20, 1916 and all of the attached documents are very rare and valuable sources of the history in both universities. The paper therefore can be considered as a novelty by giving an insight into the partnership of the University of Debrecen and Kolozsvár.

The outstanding athlete and the excellent linguist did not refrain from taking an active role in the management of higher education sports, which fact has been recognized by conferring the title of perennial president of the University Athletic Club upon him.
