Direct Optimization of an Automotive Sheet Metal Part Using ANSYS
134-142Views:456Optimization of automotive parts nowadays is mainly used to design lightweight and cost-effective vehicle parts in order to improve the cost and efficiency. In this research, a sheet metal part was taken into consideration and optimized using direct optimization module in ANSYS to evaluate the process. An initial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was done on the sheet metal part by adding forces and constraints in order to initiate direct optimization. The purpose of the optimization is to minimize the mass of the sheet metal part and maintaining a certain Factor of Safety (FOS) by automatically modifying the sheet thickness and the dimension of the side holes. As a result, the best candidate point with 23% mass reduction was found which complied with FOS value was selected for optimal geometry.

Use of ANSYS Software for the Acetabular Cup Structure Analysis out of the Hip Implant
1-6.Views:361Modelling the hip implant has been one of the most important researches over the past few decades. In addition, using the ANSYS software for this purpose is well-known procedure to understand the real reaction of the hip implant parts during the daily life of the installed part. This study is to focus on the practical part of the use of ANSYS software to analyse the performance of the hip implant through the feature of structure analysis available in the ANSYS. The research applies the static loads behaviour only with the help of the static structural analysis to view the advantages and the disadvantages of every design, which helps us estimate the implant’s behaviour. The study investigates the optimization of the acetabular cup using the lattice optimization along with the infill option available in the ANSYS software in order to optimize the stress and the fixture of the cup inside the pelvis.

Evaluating the Efficiency of Polyhedral Mesh Elements in Solving the Problem of the Flow around Ship’s Rudder
241-256Views:252Meshing is one of the crucial key features to the success of CFD based simulations, this study is evaluating the efficiency of polyhedral elements in solving the problem of the flow around ship rudder, using a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes turbulence model (SST k-ω), and compares it to a tetrahedral based mesh, considering that polyhedral elements were neglected in the past due to difficulties in implementing them, this was solved by introducing a tool by ANSYS that converges tetrahedral elements to polyhedral element, and integrating it into FLUENT software, the model was validated by comparing it with previously validated model which used the full version of ANSYS, this study was concluded using the academic version, but still it was able to produce satisfying results in predicting the lift and the drag coefficient, the pressure around the rudder surface, the velocity and the turbulent kinetic energy, finally the mesh quality was evaluated using the orthogonal quality criteria, the results showed the supremacy of the polyhedral elements in saving time and computational resources and improving mesh quality, and keeping high level of accuracy in predicting the results.

Finite Element Analysis of Cellular Structures Using Ansys

Its process has been evolving for decades and nowadays it can be used for several applications and with different materials. One modern usage is for medical and dental purposes. Since it became possible to print metal, it has been a good solution for bone implants, once it must be done with biomaterials and can now replicate the bone structure, for that unit cells should compose the implant. Both conditions are now possible to be achieved by AM, and the current study will analyze, using finite element method, the possibilities to create specimens for tests which the final product would result in a 3D printed bone implant.

Numerical Model Analysis of Natural Gas Combustion Burners

Boilers generate energy by combustion. The improvement of combustion efficiency could greatly influence the energy consumption and will make the boiler more efficient and cleaner (less emissions), that’s why it is important to understand the combustion and thermal flow behaviours inside the boiler. Beside experimental testing, computational work nowadays becoming more and more important due to lower cost and acceptable accuracy with minimum error. With numerical calculations method, the computational model created by a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software could reduce a lot of trial and error on experimental work. In this paper utilizing the ANSYS FLUENT 19.1 software to make crate the combustion model. The ratio of air to fuel mixture, the equivalency factor, mass flow rate of the mixture, velocity, mass fractions of the mixture components (fuel and air) and their temperatures will serve as the input parameter while the exhaust gase component mass fraction, temperature, mass flow and velocity will be monitored.

Numerical Model Analysis of Myring–Savonius wind turbines
180-185Views:197Nowadays the importance of renewable energy is growing, and the utilization of the low wind energy potential is getting crucial. There are turbines with low and high tip speed ratio. Turbines with low tip speed ratio such as the Savonius wind turbine can generate adequate amount of torque at low wind velocities. These types of turbines are also called drag machines. The geometry of the blade can greatly influence the efficiency of the device. With Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method, several optimizations can be done before the production. In our paper the Savonius wind turbine blade geometry was based on the so-called Myring equation. The primary objective of this paper was to increase the power coefficient by modelling the effect of the wind on the turbine blade. For the sake of simplicity, a 2D cross-sectional area was investigated in the simulation with ANSYS CFX 19.1.

Simulation of an Operating Machine in Dust Chamber

The topic of this paper is a part of the analysis of the dust control of generators, which in principle is no different from the examination of other equipment. The flow around the generator and in the dust chamber was simulated by Ansys FLUENT.

Optimization and Analysis of Structure about Lifting Device of Logistics Sorting
425-431Views:163The lifting device of a logistics sorting machine needs high frequency upward and downward reciprocating motion therefore the cutting fork arms and matching parts of the shaft are often worn out. In this paper the problem of the shear fork types applied for the lifting mechanism is studied at first. Then the advanced numerical simulation software ANSYS adopted for the lifting mechanism of the shear fork type, and the means of virtual simulation is introduced. Hence the possible location of faults and fault modes are analysed. Then improving measures about the lifting mechanism of the logistics sorting machine are suggested.
