An Analytical Review of Cross Cultural Child-Rearing and Care Practices: A Special Reference to India
7-18Views:905Child-rearing is an individualist, social and cultural process. This paper proposes that Child-Rearing has invariable characteristics and huge diversity. It has been considered that cultural perspective may contribute to the understanding of such multiple forms of child-rearing. The present paper provides an analytical account of dominant factors of child-rearing and caring. The factors selection is done by reviewing the articles which have either more than 50 Google scholar citations or are indexed in top-class journals. It also aims to ascertain whether or not Indian child-rearing intrinsically has something different in its practices and which child-rearing patterns are global and common among all the countries. This article took majorly dominating factors in the area of child-rearing and provided a qualitative comparative account of India especially in relation to the world. Some factors are individualistic as parental attitude and the parent-child relationship. But the study found that corporal punishments, socialization and cultural factors have a strong impact on child-rearing. Altogether these factors affect the cognitive skills of children. The study will give a critical overview of child-rearing patterns in India and across the globe, which would be helpful for policymakers to create new policies and act accordingly.

Reading Assessment for Diagnosing Acquired Reading Disorders in Adults: Theoretical and Practical Aspects of its Development
70-83Views:301The study of reading processes is of particular importance in the assessment of cognitive-linguistic functions in both atypical development and acquired disorders of the adult developmental skills system. A comprehensive assessment of cognitive processes allows the selection of the appropriate therapeutic techniques, which in turn contributes to the best possible quality of life following rehabilitation. A common leading symptom of cognitive dysfunction in adult acquired neurological impairment is a deficit in reading. Our aim was to develop a reading assessment procedure based on national and international theoretical and empirical research to allow a complex assessment of reading processes. In order to investigate the reliability of the test and to develop an assessment system for it, a large-scale survey was organised. During the analyses, an evaluation system was developed which would allow us to objectively describe not only the fact of impairment but also its extent. Based on our results, the design of the Adult Acquired Reading Assessment and the comprehensive assessment system associated to it have resulted in a complex test procedure that is not only well applicable in clinical diagnostics but also in exploratory empirical work.

Recent graduates and labour market competencies – Issues of horizontal matching
29-38Views:10This study examines the differences between the competencies possessed by recent graduates and those required in their jobs, with particular attention to horizontal matching. Its theoretical framework integrates human capital theory, job matching models, the skill mismatch approach, and competence theories, highlighting the growing importance of transversal and non-cognitive skills. The analysis is based on the Hungarian dataset of the Eurograduate 2022 survey (N = 6,797) and compares possessed and required competencies based on graduates’ subjective self-assessments, while also examining the degree of horizontal mismatch. According to the results, in most of the examined competencies, only moderate differences can be observed between the required and actual levels, and in several cases, recent graduates rate their own competencies higher than those required for their work. Prominent differences can be observed in some dimensions of digital and communication competencies. Horizontal matching is high, although significant differences are observed by level and field of education. The findings suggest that both the level and the type of competencies play a decisive role in labour market matching, while mismatch is more of a differentiated rather than a general phenomenon.
