Saint Ladislaus’ Day Orations at the University of Vienna in the 17th Century. The University of Vienna played a highly important role in the promotion of Saint Ladislaus’ cult in the 16th century. The festive oration was presented on the occasion of the annual solemnities held in honour of St. Ladislaus by a specially chosen student. Due to the king’s presence and under the influence of Jesuit supervision actual political topics and analogies between Habsburg sovereigns and St. Ladislaus were highly appreciated in the text of orations. There are two sources of collected editions of St. Ladislaus day’s orations available for study. The first one is owed to Franciscus Xaverius Cetto who collected and published in 1693 orations presented after 1655. The second volume was produced by Miklós Jankovich at the end of the 18th century. The latter is the only source of Miklós Zrínyi’s first prose work (1634). He depicts St. Ladislaus as hero of knight king, predecissor of Ferdinand III. with the inclusion of first clues to Zrínyi’s future political programme. His thoughts are also reflected in the orations by counts Esterházy in which comparison to Habsburg monarchs gains even more emphasis. Similar parallelism appears on the portrait St. Ladislaus of the Nádasdy- Mausoleum which was inspired by the Augsburg and Brunn edition of the Thuróczy’s Chronicle (1488).

J. 1928 vom Aspekt seines römischrechtlichen Inhalts her.

Unexplored memories from the life and work of Gyula Kenézy. Gyula Kenézy is an outstanding historical figure of the University of Debrecen as well as of the City of Debrecen. Beyond many sculptures, street, prize, a hospital, and a civil society which carry his memories, the cities of Debrecen and Hajdúszoboszló regularly remember the renowned professor. Many monographs gave the account of his life and accomplishments, and a collection of his relics gained a permanent place for commemoration in the Museum of Hajdúszoboszló. Nevertheless, one-hundred years after the beginning of medical education in Debrecen, new pieces of historical records continue to enrich our memories about Gyula Kenézy. For the first time in its history, the Kenézy Memorial Day was organized by the Kenézy Civil Society and the University of Debrecen together in 2017. The program provided us with exciting recollections, and so far unraveled details of the life of Gyula Kenézy.

Representation of the Higher Educational and Scientific Institutions in the Upper House of the Hungarian Parliament in 1927–1944. The Upper House, what was the second chamber of the Hungarian Parliament, was functioning between 1927 and 1944 and followed the image of the Main House (House of Magnets) before 1918, but operated in a more democratic spirit and structure. Besides the aristocrats and the leaders of the church, the representatives of the higher educational and scientific institutions, and economic organizations deserved a place. The study overviews the Upper House representation of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, universities in the capital and in the country, other scientific organizations, and other institutions of higher education, and there is enclosed a list of the representatives of the above mentioned institutions exactly to the day.

The Archontology of Lajos Kossuth University of Arts and Sciences (1950–1990), Part XIII : Directorate / Directorate-General for Economic Affairs. The Archontology of Kossuth University for the School of Arts, the School of Sciences, and for the so-called „Central Units” between January 1, 1950, and December 31, 1990, was compiled on the basis of the personal cards and personal files of the Personnel Department of the Rector’s Office, and the scantily documented section for the 1950s was supplemented from the annually arranged documentary material of the Personnel Office. Even so, however, the existing material fails to be complete. It is impossible to compile the archontology with perfect accuracy. Part XIII presents the complete list pertaining to the Directorate for Economic Affairs from director-general to coadjutor.

István Hatvani, the polyhistor Professor. István Hatvani interpreted his professorship as profession devoted to cultivation and instruction of sciences. Besides being a determined theologian of the Reformed Church, he also owned profund knowledge in all disciplines of natural sciences of his age. As well, he was aware of the relationship between these two fields of sciences and philosophy. According to his considerations, the Newtonian view of nature was acceptable, which explains him discarding the ‚logic-deductive based science concept’ of Christian Wolff. His passion to work, as well as to his marriage was deeply influenced by his Christian faith.

The first 150 years of Agricultural Tertiary Education in Debrecen. The Georgikon in Keszthely was founded in 1797 as the first one in the line of subsequent agricultural tertiary institutions and was followed by one in Magyaróvár in 1818. It was fifty years later – that is one and a half centuries ago – that the National Higher Institution of Agriculture opened its gates in Debrecen. The speech that opened the first academic year at the new agricultural higher school was delivered by the then director Péter Papi Balogh and it has been preserved for later generations. On 5 September 2018, a hundred and fifty years later, Dean István Komlósi had the honour to recall the first 150 years of agricultural tertiary education in Debrecen. His speech is published in full length by Gerundium, the journal devoted to papers on the history of the University of Debrecen.
