  the Centenary of the Birth of János Arany and the War. The Message of the Memorial Society from Nagyszalonta to the University of Debrecen about the Cancellation of the Ceremony. One hundred years ago and one hundred years after the birth of Arany the memorial society prepared for a nationwide celebration in Nagyszalonta. They sent their official invitation to every literary and scholarly society, with the University of Debrecen among them. Nándor Láng, who was the Rector of the university in the 1916/17. academic year gave the mandate to Károly Pap to attend the ceremony and represent the university. Károly Pap, who was the dean of the faculty of arts, accepted this with pleasure because he was a researcher of the poetry of Arany. But the ceremony was postponed because the train service became unreliable due to the war. The nationwide ceremony had to be cancelled because of the bad traffic conditions and it was never held in Nagyszalonta in 1917. This printed media sources inform us about this and the effect of the Great War on the centenary of the birth of János Arany.

  A Debreceni Egyetem 2000. január elsején öt egyetemi és három főiskolai karral kezdte meg működését. Az integráció negyedszázados jubileuma alkalmából díszünnepséget rendezett az intézményt fenntartó Gróf Tisza István Debreceni Egyetemért Alapítvány és a Tiszántúli Református Egyházkerület. Az eseményen részt vett és köszöntőt mondott Sulyok Tamás köztársasági elnök, aki az ünnepség keretében adta át rektori megbízás okiratát Bács Zoltán egyetemi tanárnak, a Debreceni Egyetem új rektorának. Az intézmény alapításában végzett munkájuk elismeréseként Gróf Tisza István-emlékplakettet és díszoklevelet vehettek át mindazok, akik közreműködtek az egységes Debreceni Egyetem létrehozásában. Az ünnepségen a debreceni felsőoktatás integrációjában szerepet vállaló intézmények képviselői Ünnepélyes Nyilatkozat aláírásával erősítették meg szándékukat az eddigi együttműködés folytatására. A program ünnepi műsorral folytatódott az Egyetemi Templomban, majd koszorúzással zárult a Református Kollégium előtti Emlékkertben a Gályarabok emlékoszlopánál.

  A HISTORY OF THE HONOUR DOCTORAL AWARDING CEREMONY IN DEBRECEN (1912–2012). his factually substantiated overview ofers, for the irst time in the past century, a compilation of the names of distinguished university students who throughout their studies attained top grades and hereby proved worthy of the acknowledgement of the head of state in the form of an Honour Doctoral Awarding Ceremony. A brief outline of the prehistory of honour doctoral awards is followed by an overview of the varied history of distinguished promotio in Hungary and in Debrecen (promotio sub auspiciis Regis, promotio sub auspi ciis Gubernatoris, promotio sub laurea Almae matris, promotio sub auspiciis Rei Publicae Popularis, promotio sub auspiccis Praesidentis Rei Publicae), which is supplemented with a survey of legal and regulatory dispositions. Finally we are given an opportunity to get acquainted with the names of distinguished honour doctors. An equally valuable part of the disquisition is a compilation of pictorial material representing
  lashes of rare moments.

  A Debreceni Egyetem Böszörményi úti kampuszán 2020 októberében avatták fel az 1919-ben elhunyt Kozma András professzor mellszobrát. Az ünnepségen a Gazdaságtudományi Kar dékánja emlékezett meg a nagy hatású, országos jelentőségű egyetemi tanár munkásságáról.

  IV. Károly, az utolsó magyar király 1918. október 23-án – néhány nappal az Osztrák–Magyar Monarchia felbomlása előtt – Debrecenben járt, és a kor szokásainak megfelelő fényes külsőségek között hivatalosan is
  felavatta a Debreceni Magyar Királyi Tudományegyetemet, amely akkor már négy éve ténylegesen működött. Az írás – elsősorban a korabeli sajtómegnyilvánulások tükrében és korabeli képekkel – végigköveti a

  THE MAIN BUILDING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DEBRECEN IS EIGHTY YEARS OLD: THREE SHORT SPEECHES. The first speech was delivered by Tibor Fényi, Director of the Miksa Róth Museum, on February 3, 2012, in the State Assembly Hall of the Main Building, on the occasion of celebrating the restoration of the ornamental stained-glass windows of the Assembly Hall. hematically linked with the irst one, the second speech, given on March 15, 2012, by Tamás Gesztelyi, Professor of Latin Studies and Art History introduced a volume jointly produced by photographer József Hapák and Secretary-General of the University Mónika Rői, on the subject of the stained-glass windows, appreciating the windows from the angle of art history. he third speech was also delivered by Professor Tamás Gesztelyi; this speech was delivered on May 15, 2012, at the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition arranged by Professor of Geography Péter Csorba, entitled he spirit of the place: our main building is 80 years old.

  Bár az 1912-ben létrehozott Debreceni Magyar Királyi Tudományegyetem 1914-ben megkezdte működését, az oktatóknak és hallgatóknak hosszú éveket kellett várnia arra, hogy végre birtokba vehessék az intézmény központi épületét. Az építkezést és az ünnepélyes avatást követően 90 éve az 1932/33-as tanév volt az első, amely már a Főépületben kezdődhetett.
