  THE PERSONALITY AND STAMINA OF KÁROLY PAP, PROFESSOR OF LITERATURE IN THE EYES OF HIS STUDENTS. he essay describes Károly Pap, the irst professor of literature at the University of Debrecen and a main representative of the positivist literature research, as a teacher based on the reminiscences of his former students. Among the literature researchers after 1948, he was considered – rather undeservedly – a negativ igure in the history of the University. Most of the people remembered him as cold and distant teacher with aristocratic behaviour. he essay demonstrates the professional taste of the wrongfully underestimated professor in literature, and draws a iner picture about the conlicting personality of Károly Pap.

  Az 1635-ben alapított Nagyszombati Egyetem Magyarország első, máig folyamatosan működő univerzitása. Jogutódja a budapesti Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem és a Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem. Az egyetem levéltári forrásainak jelentős része elpusztult az 1956-os forradalom idején a Magyar Országos Levéltárban keletkezett tűzben. Ezért nagyon nehéz összeállítani az első magyar egyetemen tanult hallgatók listáját. A közelmúltban, Esztergomban új, eddig nem ismert források kerültek elő az egyetem növendékeiről. Ebben a cikkben összefoglaljuk azokat az eredményeket, amiket az új dokumentumok alapján elmondhatunk az egyetem bölcsészeti és teológiai karán tanult személyekről. Vizsgáljuk az egyetem vonzáskörzetét, a hallgatói létszám alakulását korszakonként, továbbá a hallgatóság társadalmi rétegződését és nemzetiségi összetételét, a külföldi és belföldi diákok arányát.

  A debreceni földrajz oktatás 110 éves évfordulója alkalmából jelent meg Lóki József professzor úr kötete. A munka áttekintést ad a tanszéken, majd intézetben folyó oktatói és kutatói munkáról, majd minden nagyobb fejezet végén bemutatja az ott dolgozók életrajzát, tudományos tevékenységét és publikációit. A kötet hosszú időszakot ölel fel, a politikai rendszer is többször változott, ez megmutatkozott az oktatással kapcsolatos ideológiai kérdésekben is. A szerző külön kitér egyes korszakokban a hallgatói létszámok alakulására, bemutatja hogyan változott az intézet felszereltsége, infrastruktúrája és hogyan sikerült a országos és nemzetközi szinten is elismerést kivívniuk mind a hallgatóknak, mind a kutatóknak.

  Frigyes Verzár, Professor of Physiology and Rector Magnificus of István Tisza Hungarian Royal University in Debrecen During the Academic Year of 1927/28. Frigyes Verzár was Rector of the University of Debrecen in the academic year of 1927–28. This task was particularly demanding for various reasons. First, construction work on the central building of the University was still underway, second, because in August 1927 the Research Institute of Tihany was opened, and Verzár had to direct that Institute,
  too. The actually existing conditions of commuting between Debrecen and Tihany rendered the fulfilment of this double load particularly troublesome. In spite of all the difficulties, however, the work of the Rector yielded rich results, as listed in the report of Rector held in September 1928.

  A Debreceni Egyetem Bőrgyógyászati Klinikája 2021-ben ünnepelte megalakulásának 100. évfordulóját. A 2021-es esztendő azonban a COVID pandémia miatt nem tette lehetővé számunkra, hogy ezt a jeles évfordulót kellőképpen meg tudjuk ünnepelni, így a Centenárium tiszteletére rendezett ünnepi ülés és egy összefoglaló közlemény 2023 tavaszán került megszervezésre, illetve készült el. Ezen áttekintő közlemény beszámol a Bőrgyógyászati Klinika elmúlt 100 évéről, röviden bemutatja a klinikán végzett betegellátás, oktatás és kutatás fejlődésének fő lépéseit, emléket állít a korábbi munkatársak és vezetők munkásságának, valamint lehetőséget ad az Egyetem minden dolgozójának és az érdeklődő olvasóknak is, hogy betekintést nyerjenek a debreceni bőrgyógyászat orvostörténetileg is érdekes több mint százéves időszakába.

  THE PANTHEON OF THE FORMAL COURTYARD OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DEBRECEN. In the plaques of the formal courtyard of the University of Debrecen 23 names are inscribed, which faithfully relect the mentality of the city, as well as its scientiic and scholarly signiicance. he pantheon is a replica of the rich store of Hungarian spirituality, which faithfully renders the speciic heritage of Debrecen and it also comprises within itself the values of Hungarian national culture in the spirit of universitas scientiarum. Based on thorough research, the study is the irst exploration of how the list of names of those chosen was established, and it ofers short biographies of the respective denizens of the pantheon.

  Egykori intézményvezetők festett portréi – szinte valamennyi Dienes János festőművész alkotásai - díszítik ma is a Debreceni Egyetem Főépületének Rektori Tanácstermét és folyosóját. A festmények egykor egy, az egyetem nagyjait, több mint harminc arcképet megörökítő galéria darabjai voltak. Az arcképcsarnok – amelynek létezését korabeli dokumentumok, fotók is bizonyítják – mára már csupán töredékében maradt fenn. A kutatások azonban kiderítették, hogy a gyűjtemény több darabját őrzi jelenleg a debreceni Déri Múzeum.

  SOURCES AND METHODS FOR PROCESSING STUDENT LISTS OF THE DEBRECEN REFORMIST COLLEGE. In commemoration of the 475th anniversary of the existence of the Debrecen Reformist College a long expected, two volume resource guide was published in 2013 under the title „History sources of the institution int he archive of the Debrecen Reformist College.” It contains student lists between 1588 and 1850 cataloguing 20 000 registrations. his essay summarizes the history of this research and lists the sources used in the process.

  Zsigmond Varga, Professor of the History of Religion, the Rector Magnificus of the Hungarian Royal István Tisza University of Debrecen during the academic year 1933/1934. Several memorable events took place at the university during his time in office. The historical background of this was the fact that the political and social tensions caused by restrictive measures taken by the Hungarian government to fight the consequences of the Great Depression reached their peak in that academic year. There were several events that made the extraordinary actions of rector Zsigmond Varga necessary: the public debate on the policy of education aiming at the restructuring of the higher education threatened the university with loosing one of its four faculties and the ongoing student revolts hindered the teaching and research activities for months. In addition to Varga’s activity in the University administration, this study describes his work as an academic and as a scholar, and addresses his public activities outside of the university, too. It also offers a glimpse into his family life at a certain point of time. Referring to a memorial booklet written by Varga, his son, Zsigmond Varga jr., the young Reformed minister and promising biblical scholar is also remembered in this study. Varga jr. was a student of the University of Vienna, he was nprisoned by the Gestapo and he died a martyr’s death in the concentration camp of Mauthausen-Gusen.
